You know, the exact same things can be said about Obama.

Ford was not President long enough to even judge if his performance was dismal. I know you are very partisan, but it is hard to take people seriously that will not look past their own biases long enough to make an honest assessment of something.

Edit:

Funny you did not take me to task when I said that Kerry lost for talking down to the American people.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter.

I hate it when people are so bitter that they say the American voter is stupid because they did not elect their candidate. Does that mean the American Voter was stupid for picking Carter over Ford in light of his dismal performance as President?

John Kerry lost because of his condescending attitude, his constant flip flopping and double speak. He also handled the Swift Boat incident horribly. The American people will not stand to be talked down to by a politician. Obama better learn this early on or he will lose to McCain also. So far he has managed to piss off the wrong demographic of Americans. Obama better start wooing the so called bitter gun toting, bible thumping small town voter he has so far despised. If not he will lose key states like Pennsylvania, West Virgina, Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan.

Edited to change Minnesota to Wisconsin.

Unfortunately a lot of Americans need to be talked down to by politicians. Unfortunately those people who will stand up and do that consequently won't get elected.

Have to agree. Ford didn't have enough time in office for anyone to get to know him. Guess the pardon did him in. That and the fact that RR had his own agenda which didn't include Ford.

I don't agree with this since most politicians are lying cheating hypocrites who have no morals and are dumb as a rock when it comes to what really matters to real people.

No, because supporters and detractors of Obama alike never take the time to read his policies

True, in hindsight I don't agree with it either.
Most Americans need to be talked down to by someone well educated who can point out why they're idiots, not by politicians. I was focusing on the talking down rather than the politicians, and made a mistake by equating the two, although Obama speaks more sense than most, but he's far from perfect.

I like some of what Obama intends to do... however, I will not vote for any candidate who will not fully fund our space exploration goals & programs... he has twice already said he intends to delay our Constellation program by 5 years to redirect that funding to education... Education will suffer without those same space programs he is trying to underfund.

If anything, NASA should recieve the full 7% of our federal budget like it was recieving back in the 70's, indead of the .85% it currently recieves today.

I mean honestly, I see come election time: McCain 70. Obama 200. Landslide all the way...

You sound like Dukakis supporters in 1988.

So you won't be voting for anyone I take it? I don't know of a single candidate who has advised dramatically increasing the budget for NASA from its current level. And, as much as I like the idea of space exploration, space travel, weekend trips to Mars and whatnot, given that we have found very little in our exploration of space thus far that is tangibly useful here on Earth, I have to view it as something of a luxury. Education, health care, transportation, social security, paying off the national debt, even military spending, all seem more important in terms of real-world practicality.

This is exactly the problem democrats face. The smug attitude that education is actually worth anything. Look at Korea, it has one of the most rigorous education systems in the world, and what you get are over-educated entitlement mentality college educated cashiers.

Wow you're really full of great ideas today! Education level is the single largest predictive factor in future income that you can control.

Edged up in the polls today.

Obama was also polled higher on the economy than McCain, which is the single biggest issue for voters this fall.

The second biggest issue is Iraq, and CNN just put out another hit piece showing that the war will cost taxpayers $2.7 trillion.

All in all, a good day.

you've got to be absolutely joking...
while there may be be any direct benefit from a trip to the moon or mars itself...
the technologies developed along the way to facilitate the trip will have endless impact on
life as you know it. a Majority of all of the technologies and things you currently use and benefit from now are a result of our previous spaceflight accomplishments...

Nasa has devoted a site to spin-off awareness to document and fight the very attitude that we waste money going to space with little to no benefit.

I question the leadership ability of anyone wno cannot see the importance of our space program to both the technological/science frontier and our national security.
