My computer has never crashed on me, idle or playing games.

I decided to overclock my P43.2 to P43.36.
I used the overclocking facilities in BIOS of my Asus P4P800, it has options of 5%, 10%, 15% up to 30%.

I overclocked it by 5%. It all booted up fine. Decided to play CS:Source and about 20 mins into that it crashed for the first time. Screen just froze and repeated sounds of game through speakers.

Could this be a heat problem??

It's quite cool in my room.

Not necessarily. It could be that your memory can't handle it.

What memory have you got (brand, etc) and what have you got for cooling, both in the case and CPU?

I wouldnt use the overclocking ai in the motherboard. You should probably just do it the old fashioned way and change everything yourself, that way tou know what your chainging and your more in control of things.

Maybe your CPU is not capable for that (which I don't believe, but still, it's possible) Memory should not be an issue, because if you use AI Overclocking, mobo set the divider to 5:4 automatically. And, even if it's at 1:1, it's only DDR420, which most of DDR400 module are capable. (But again, it's still possible)

Another thing you should be careful is that if you have the newer revision of P4P800. Older revision of P4P800 has a bug that it doesn't fix AGP/PCI clock when you use AI Overclock, which will definetely cause damage to everything. So, you should make sure your P4P800 is ok with this.

Everydae: So you're saying that I need the latest BIOS for a better overclock. I'll give this a go.

Does overclocking CPU overclock the memory aswell, I thought the CPU just ran at a higher speed only.

Chilled: I have standard DDR PC3200 memory and only one case fan on the side.

Umm, that one case fan on the side may not be good enough. Typically you want 30 or more cfm from the back panel (not including the PSU) and 15-30CFM coming from the front to cool harddrives - in a small midtower case. More if you have a larger case...

Thomash, if I were you, I'd take BW86's advice and read up on how to overclock the "old-fashioned" way. I get a much better overclock with my system if I change the settings manually rather than using Asus' AI Overclocking feature, which underclocks my RAM and does not allow me to change the VCore and RAM voltages. Just do some reading up on how to overclock, and you should be fine. If you have any questions, just ask the folks here on these forums. They're very knowledgeable. They've taught me a bunch.

I had a similar problem with my 2800+ Barton on an Abit NF7-S. I think I need to flash my bios cause I couldn't get ANY OC on it without losing stability. Ah well... it's only going to last another month or so and even when I got it up to 2.5ghz and had it running I didn't notice a great boost in performance.
