I just recieved an invitation to Occupy Toronto, described as, "On October 15th, Toronto will stand in solidarity with those who are Occupying Wall Street. We will all stand for a true democracy, not a corpratocracy."

It's a Saturday, and the plan is apparently to occupy a (privately owned) building on Bay Street, which is Canada's version of Wall St. Currently 465 people are marked as attending.

Just got through a dozen or so pages of that site - http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/

I weep for our future if these are the types of people we are raising and have raised.
You people want to know HARD? Look back at your grand parents and great grandparents. THEY had it hard. No one forced you to sign a debt contract, no one forced you to do xyz, no one but you can change your situation in life - especially not the gov't. You think you are a "slave" to your debt? would you rather be a slave to your gov't?

If I found my kid on that site - I would know I failed as a parent to properly raise and educate my child. So sad to see so many who have been failed and who have bough into the victim mentality...

So you are a boomer? The generation that collectively had it the easiest of any generation in the history of mankind?

What gives you the right, being a boomer, to judge what these youth do?

Look at you 2 bozos.

Those people are allowed to have a story to tell. Their arent any good middle class jobs anymore for the majority of people. Schools exploded tuition costs and people are saddled with slave debt at the ripe young age of 22.

Didn't say they didn't have a story.
Bullshit -there are good jobs out there - but going to college doesn't entitle you to a middle class job.
yeah, tuition sucks - you know why? people bought into the bullshit idea that everyone deserves go to college so the costs went up. duh.
No one is a slave to any debt they didn't sign on the line for.

Nope, my parents were late boomers. I'm 34. No silver spoon here, I've had to work for what I have and had to work to get to where I'm at. Life sucked at times and still does at times but no one said or "promised" it would be easy.

I agree that life isn't easy. I do think these people have a point marching on wall street. It's too bad that the teahaddists won't join them. Wedge issues are working as intended.

I don't think these kiddies have a solid enough point for anyone to join them. Why would the tea party people join a ragtag bunch of people whining for MORE gov't intervention? The only point they have in common it seems is that there is too much power in politics(hippies think it's wallstreet and tea party believes it's the structure) ... or something like that.

The Occupy Wall Street protestors are probably the very folks the Tea Party are protesting against; there is probably fairly complete overlap in the Venn Diagram between them and the people whom Rick Santelli's rant was about.

What a great video and great contrasting image. The protestors marched at 55 Wall Street where there's a private residency/club for the wealthy and they were looking down on the protestors from their balconies laughing and drinking their champagne. And why wouldn't they? They have America by the balls, after all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PiXDTK_CBY&feature=player_embedded

The club/residency itself:

http://www.cipriani.com/locations/new-york/events/cipriani-wall-street.php

LOL@The jobless hippies. Maybe if they put the time into getting an education in practical/real life skills instead of wasting mommy and daddies money on some bullshit "history", "theater", or "women studies" degree they wouldn't be poor living on the streets of New York trying to pin their misfortune (IE laziness) on others.

I really don't get it. We have a generation who go 30k into debt getting an "education" in something that has no real word application simply because they are "following their heart". Not really sure why these children's parents encouraged them to seek a pointless dream.

Edit: About their chant on the '99 percent': http://wearethe99percent.tumblr.com/

I am a programmer with 12 years of experience. I make only $45,000 a year before taxes. When I work more than 40 hours a week, I don’t get a dime. I have it easy compared to others, but that doesn’t comfort me when I tell my wife that we can’t afford to buy a house because I might have to move to chase down my next job.

LOL - I hope that guy realizes that he is making 10k more than the average household income.

I also don't understand the posts about people having to live with other people or their parents.

Not really sure how society got to the point where everyone feels entitled to live on their own or even when not living on ones own is a bad thing.

Anyways, the more I read the less sorry I feel for these people. They took out MASSIVE student loans to get an education in career fields with zero demand.

I also find it interesting that these college students claim that they have no access to health insurance when almost every college offers and/or requires coverage.

He's probably blissfully ignorant of that - if you look at the rest of his page, it talks about how he wants to leave America due to lack of "liberty and justice". That doesn't sound like someone grateful about making a decent if not spectacular wage.

Their numbers have grown to almost 200 now! Always good to see hippies getting gassed though.

There's a lot of talks of some large Unions stepping in to support the Occupy Wall Street movement...so I wouldn't write them off yet. We could still see many thousands of people turning out.

That being said, I spent an hour or two lurking in in irc room they have on occupywallst.org just to see what the people involved with this were talking about. From people on the ground in Liberty Square, it sounds like many people there have their own agendas. They all want to see changes, and they all seem to agree that wall street has too much control over our government, but after that their "demands" seem to be very different depending on who you're hearing it from.

Its also interesting how these people are struggling so hard and yet they own a computer, have internet, and have a digital camera of some sort.

LMAO, you're god damned retarded, the grandparents of these kids had it fucking easy you shit for brains moron. Back then, you could raise a family on one income easily AND have a great pension at retirement.

Kids today: WTF is a pension?

Why do dirtbag hippies always put so much effort into useless crap instead of trying to improve their own worthless lives?

Blows me away that you fucking idiots are ranting against people who are having a difficult time of it. Do you morons NOT KNOW the middle class is getting decimated? Guess what, at some point, you can apply yourself all you want, but there are going to be so many people fighting each other for the few crumbs that are left that it's going to be a wasted effort all for naught.

Uhhh.. really? PTSD isn't uncommon so maybe find a different doc? You know... a second or third opinion? Also, if you served that long school shouldn't be too big of a financial burden. Sheesh...

The Army absolutely recognizes PTSD. You can get a freakin' purple heart for it now!

90% of the time veterans that make this complaint aren't being honest. The real truth is that they came back from two wars and started acting foolish, getting DUIs, being insubordinate and generally just bad soldiers. So they get put out. Maybe it was caused by PTSD, or maybe it wasn't. But the time to ask for help is before you do a bunch of stupid shit.

Oh and Cad, good job minimizing that soldier's PTSD as if he isn't going to struggle in school and life afterwards with it, you piece of shit.

Are you batshit retarded? You do realize that there are lots of kids graduating college who do the 'practical' degrees that are unemployed and working shit jobs (IF they're lucky) unrelated to their field, right? No wonder this country is fucked, you morons can't see that this isn't affecting just the underwater basketweaving majors, you dumb shit.

Also, 40K for a programmer is pretty shitty and he looks fairly old, not some kid out of school.

Also, the best thing is when fuckhead conservatives get laid off and cry about it and go crawling to the government for a handout, considering the number of layoffs around my workplace, i've seen that a LOT.

It's the 2nd most disgusting thing i've seen (the 1st is seeing shithead tea partiers who think they deserve their government bennies like medicare/social security while everyone else can fuck themselves).

Been through ~20 pages of that site.
Please explain to me the problem with these 3.

Most of the people have made stupid choices and are now bitching about it.

I am sure there are some legitimate people on the site but 99% of the "99ers" simple over extended themselves in the name of education without looking at the end game.

All I see is people making stupid choices and then bitching about it.

Yes, lets cherry pick 3 out of a ton of them. Do those people not deserve jobs (yes even felons should be employed, unless you want more recidivism).

Again, this isn't affect underwater basket weaving majors you retards, this is affecting everyone.

Why does a student who is in 50k in debt have an Android smart phone?

Why would you take out 100k in student loans to major in "history' knowing that it is an irrelevant degree?

And really? A two time convicted felon is "deserving" of a job?

LOL

Anyways I just went though all of them and only a handful are legitimate beefs. The vast majority of them involve student debt.

Who the fuck cares what cheap gadgets they have? That's not a fucking point at all. And YES, do you REALLY want felons to NOT have jobs? Guess what happens when they need to do things like... PAY FOR THINGS and DON'T HAVE MONEY. Holy shit you're retarded.
