What temps are you guys seeing from your overclocked Durons?

I'm running my Duron 650 at 866/133 and reading about 36C idle and maybe 40C under load for a while. I've also clocked up to 910/140 and measured about 41C idle. System temp reads about 24C.

Does this seem a little low? I'm wondering if the sensor is properly placed.

Haven't jumpered the L1 bridges yet, Should I go for it or just stick with the fsb overclock?

What's a good test for stability?

Seems low to me. If you're using the motherboard-based sensor, then they tend to be a few cm away, so aren't reliable. If you've got a probe-type sensor, make sure it's right next to the cpu silicon (but not between the silicon and the heatsink - it's best between the silicon and one of the adjacent resistors). Now here's the trick. And a lot of silicone/silver heat-transfer compound to the sensor. Firstly this glues it in place. Secondly it ensures the thermocouple is getting an even temperature gradient, which it measures best!

You'll probably find it runs @ closer to 45-50C. Anything up to 65C is below hysteresis temperature (IMO - there are many opinions), and it finally destroys itself @ 90C.

Thanks Kaitain. Do you have any recommendations on a thermal probe?

I just bumped up the duron to 910/140 about 30min ago, and the mobo probe is reporting 38/39 now. I believe I was reading a higher temp before because the thermalpad had not melted all the way yet. Still, very little difference in the temp reading between 650 and 910.

Anythign past 55-60C usuallly leads to instability, and this stems from poor socket-thermistor methods of temp measurement.

As far as thermal probe, look for a digital doc unit, or an external probe.

Duron 650@1030-1.85v, Asus A7V mobo-30C temp, full load(prime95, 3D gaming, various burn in programs)-50C temp, using Vantec Socket A HSF. Case is closed with 3 fans out and 3 fans in.

but i heard my mobo temp readings are off by like 6 to 9 or something... (so i can gonna get a fop 32-1 with a 60mm to 80mm converter with a panaflo... oh yea!

Thanks all. I intend to pull the proc tonight and check to see if the thermistor is making contact with the back of the chip. Gives me a chance to try out arctic silver thermal paste, too.

Idle --> 37C
Full --> 41C

I check three ways:

PC Health (bios)
Via's Hardware Monitor
Sandra 2001 Pro.

The 3 are remarkably consistent with the temps they report.
