I'm just wondering if i can achieve 2.5ghz(6 if i'm really lucky) while using value ram. If you have oc'd your processor using value ram let me know the brand and what not.

What i'm looking to buy, anyone of these hopefully, mushkin 1 gig for $140, corsair 1gig value $140, kingston 1 gig for $160.

I've read zebo's thread and i am in the middle of building a computer, that's what started this idea. If i can save money and still get the maximum oc out of my processor i'd be stoked.

I am using kingston pc2700 valuram.....2x512 in DC....the ram is not the key..it is the processor OCing is always YMMV

my 3200 will do 2550..10x255...(2600 dies in Prime 95 in about 10-30min)

You need to set the ram to the correct divider...my ram 133 2.5/3/3/10 1t at 170mhz at 2.7v( I ran this ram at 200 mhz just fine in single channel on abit IT7 Max 2 rev2..2.5-3-3-7)

so I have more room but my cpu is the limit not the ram

Zebo has an excellent thread on ram and A64 perfomance....1:1 does not offer much of an increase for the price of ram....my 1gb ram cost about $100-110..I refuse to pay $250-300 to get a small increase in performance

So the key is a good processor and willingness to give up the notion 1:1 is the only way

now with that said if you want to spend the money on the ram for 1:1 and that is important do so....

remember when first testing your cpu(alot of people are missing this) you need to set the ram to low timings so you can determine the cpu limit...then go back and max the ram

do not start 1:1 ie 200mhz and say I can not get passed a 230 fsb or whatever...too many things can effect the o/c...

Duvie and Zebo pointed this out....lower ram way down...test the cpu for it fastest and most stable speed then go back and tinker with the ram

Hi

OCing 3200+ 90nm on Asus A8NSLI Dlx right now. Using Mushkin Basic Green timed at 1T 2.5-3-3-7 @ 219MHz, 2.75v ($130 @NewEgg for 2x512Megs). Getting 2.63 GHZ (stock HSF with AS 5). Stable all benches and Prime. 1.456v to CPU (this Mobo/Bios has VCore setting issues). Max 45C@ CPU.

Benches for this RAM at 220 seem to be running about 6600 on Sandra '05.

So, pretty good results, but YRMV.

lightingguy..you got a very nice chip barely any vcore to hit 2630...my 3200 will only do 2550 at vcore of 1.55v idle /1.58v load

what week was your winny..mine was a week 44

Also very hard to compare temps across mobos...

Hey again,
Week 47 CBBHB 0447 UPCW from Zipzoomfly.
Nice to see another veteran of the OC wars still around.

Im using Mushkin Value ram and have gotten it up to 230mhz at stock timings with a 2.9vdimm

I'm now currently using a 5:6 divider though.

BW,
That's 212.5 MHz, right? Seems like this ram is capable of 230 at stock, but the 5/6 divider is a bit of a bottleneck for hitting the sweet spot with a FSB over 250.

If you're getting the Muskin c2.5 stuff from Newegg, that's what I got. I've gotten the ram running at 460 or so and no ram problems. I also booted to XP at 2.8 with my 3200+ and A8V.
Rock solid stable (prime) at 2.55g, but I run it at 2.65 in games with no lockups or anything. (Still pushing it too).

It's good to know people are hitting 2.6ghz with 3200's using dividers with the muskin. I'm hoping for at least 2.4 but definately trying for 2.6 hehe. i put in a order for my processor (3200) and muskin ram today.

I basically understand your point, and I thank you. Could you please be more specific.

Here's what I have: A64 3000+ (s939), MSI K8T Neo2-F, 2 GB (2x1GB) Patriot w/ 3,3,3,7 1T DDR. So what numbers would you select in BIOS to "loosen" the RAM timings to find the CPU OC limit? By low timings do you mean 2,2,2,6 1T or 4,4,4,8 1T or some other set?

Is there a process you favor to then determine the "best" timings?
