I was checking the tech news on the AT frontpage and one of the banners was for some new extreme voltage ram from OCZ. I checked out the site and it says that it ws designed to run at 2-2-2-8 timings at 3.2v. Is it just me or do we have a new BH-5 replacement. The site also says that it ws specifically designed and is hand tested with an A64 platform. This ram would go great with one of the new DFI NF4 boards that offer u to 4.0vdimm. This cannot just be a co-incidence.

Linky It's good to see memory finally taking a few steps forward after being essentially stagnant for quite some time.

Thanks for the link, I forgot. Is no-one else really excited about getting this ram with a DFI NF4 board? Because I am a broke @$$ i have to wait like a month and that just sucks.

I officially have a request for Wes, if he is the one still doing hte motherboard and ram tests. Please for the love of god get the DFI boards benched. Then when you get a sample of this ram, stuck it in one of them and see how high DDR can really go. I bet that with this combo and a winchester we are looking at 3.0ghz in synch. I know it's wishful thinking but hey, if we don't have dreams what will we ever aspire to?

Well that just sucks. I am gonna go over and check that out. Still ram at 3.4V has to do some pretty mean overclocks.

That's the ram to get for A64. *BUT-- you need 3.2+ volts for any action.

Once you get there it offers 250+ 2-2-2 which will whoop anything but maybe BH-5 which can run 1.5-2-2 ~250+

BTW it's called VX

Well thank you for the correction on the name(though the whole "x" thing is getting really old really really fast). That is just the sh!t it really is. There are only a few boards that will natively offer you 3.2v. I believe the DFI NF4 boardsa are the only ones right now. If nothing else though OCZ sells the ram overvolting device that steals the power from your ATX connector and plugs into a ram slot.

If you can find Twinmos Speed Premium PC3200 with label code AA4T with Twinmos 44D/50D chips on them, they will perform just like the VX. In fact, it has been rumored that they are the exact same chips found on the VX. These chips are based on the new, that's right... new Winbond UTT chips (apparently Winbond's factories are still producing, although their name isn't going on anything).

Two questions:
1. Do you know of a store I can get the twinmos from? I mean specifically these chips.

2. What brand is taking over winbond's factories?

1. ChiefValue and Newegg sell Twinmos Speed Premium, however, you are not guaranteed AA4T (although the chances are going up with each new shipment).

2. It seems as if Infineon and Mosel are sourcing Winbond's factories.

Twinmos discussion: Here

Both the Speed Premium and Regular Twinmos PC3200 have a chance of having the Winbond UTT chips on them, but the Speed Premium have a much better rate of success (in the USA, at least).

You've got it mixed up. It's the same chips, just being rebranded as Infineon and Mosel/MTec.
The ones to look for though, are definitely the Twinmos Speed Premium with AA4T on the sticker.

I'd prolly get the OCZ..

1. they are under warrantied overclcoking status meaning no guilt if you bork them.
2. not that much more $230 at newegg.
3. they are speed binned, guranteed, according to a rep I talked with, 2-2-2 at 240...minimum

Course saving is always attractive..but lots of risk involved... like not getting the "right" ones... I'm still trying to figure out which exact sticks are VX equivalents over at newegg... any idea?

The VX equivalents are these:

Here

The cheaper ones running for $68 a pop with the Mtec labeled chips are also supposedly VX chips as well, but people have been having more success with the ones in the link mentioned above (that could explain why they are sold out).
