OD Big Clearance coming!?!?!

I hit a couple of Office Depot B&M's today and they look as if a BIG clearance sale is coming. Where they normally have 1-2 tables of clearance setup, they had setup an additional 6 and were starting to load up one with pc paper before I left. The other store had 4 tables already setup when I got there, and had another 6 ready to be filled. They had stuff I had never even seen in the store before.....MCSE Networking Essentials kits for 9.88....some older software...Guard Dog, old version of IBM Via Voice, and a few other books. Most of the stuff looked a little worn or maybe damaged,(wharehouse spring cleaning). I noticed they had about 5 employees reworking the pc paper aisle in the store...loading up carts with some merchandise. I tried to get a closer look at some of their notes...but to no avail. I will keep checking and let you know what else I find out.....still trying to get ahold of the clearance list for the quarter. I don't know if their is any truth to this....but I was talking to one employee about the Garmin GPS, and the Palm VII, and Pagewriters recently cleared out he said that they are trying to get away from "gadgets and un-office related stuff" (his words) and move to a more "true office store." (him again). I couldn't get him to elaborate any more. If anyone knows anything about this, please try to expand on this for me.

My local OD has already done that/is in the middle of it. Perhaps they are going to continue with other items, but all they did was clear out all clearance stuff from the back -- mostly little things like paper, envelopes, desk items, pens, old software, some CD cases, etc. Nothing terribly exciting though I did get a laptop security device with a motion sensor, which I thought was rather neat.

I'm still awaiting a deal on the Sony Cybershot cameras, which seem to be teetering on the edge of a clearance. I just wish it had the 10x optical zoom of the FD-73.

OD B&M on Rt. 22 in Springfield NJ is like a war zone -- 100% of that stores inventory is on between 20% - 30% clearance, with select items at a larger discount. BUT almost all electronics are non existant. It is a really good place for college students to go who need supplies. I bought 2 chairs by Umbra for $31 a piece -- very nice design!

the Office Depot B&M in Santa Monica (Los Angeles area) has a few racks and shopping carts with discounted stuff. Most of the stuff was random stuff like planners, leather cell phone cases, paper, compasses, cd racks, lamps, typewriter toners, and other assorted items. this one is going to blow big! i can't wait to see monitors and desktops and hard drives on those racks!

This was at the Oak Lawn store in Dallas and the Grapevine store. I will check the Irving stores tomorrow.

its a local thing, if the OD doesnt have much inventory turnover they are pulling the stuff off the shelf for the final clearance before they have to destroy the items. If the OD near you has a lot of business it most likely wont have a large clearance section.

I asked my local OD's, and got the same story at all of them. They said, they were trying to cut down on the number of items they actually cary in-store. So I dont thinnk it would be a "local" thing.

There are already clearance tags down every isle. Seems to be the same items at each store. Like thinning out the heard.

I picked up several 3M Precise Mousing Surface Gel Mouse Pads (Grey only) for $3.99 (They even had a 3M rebate for 3 off 10or more purchase)

Picked up 2 of the Glenayre AccessLink II pagers for $19 (2way pager)

A PC Concepts keyboard (USB) with 2 USB expansion ports built in for $9.99

Tons of other stuff, but I really didnt have a need for some.
All was new in box.

I checked the store on Chemical Road just outside Philly this morning. No massive clearance going on. They did have some of the lights and work lamps that were also on clearance on the web page.

This post looks like the place to list OD clearance deals found, so -

The Energizer DoubleBarrel flashlights are marked down, with the big one at $7.88 including 6 AA alkaline batteries, and the small one at $4.88 including 4 AAA batteries. You almost have to see them to appreciate their quality and uniqueness. "Tooled from aircraft aluminum" and "Next generation Halogen Xenon bulb" are just two of their features.

I got a bunch for the family, since we're being reminded daily of the power crisis in Cali, but these should be great for police duty even (the big one would make a decent nightstick).

And let's keep posting these finds so we can help our friends at OD clear out their inventory.

The new CEO of OD is trying to get their stock prices to go up. In doing so he shut down 70 low perfomring stores, and is getting rid of about 1200 skus in the next couple of months. Normally when things go on clearance, they usually drop a little at a time. This time around though, things are being cut very fast to move. All stores will be taking part in this as it is a national thing. Keep your eyes out for good buys....I have found a bunch!!

One more thing to add. It is also time for OD to start doing inventory, so we will be seeing good buys. We have found quite a bit of stuff up in our steel prepping for invetory that I had no idea was there.

I got a wooden phone stand for 6 bucks, an anti static chair mat for 8 bucks, etc....

Found lots of M/S sidewinder gamepads 9.88,Bookcases nice ones by Bush for 20.00.The rest was a bunch of junk.Just gota keep checking.
