odd framerate issues on my 6950

recently i upgraded from a 460 to the sapphire 6950 and i got a new monitor to (previous moniter was only 1366 x 768 new monitor is 1920 x1080)

now games dont seem to be running as good as i would have hoped first i thought it might have been just due to increased resolution but even when i run games such as world of warcraft at lower resolution its just not as smooth as my 460 was....the only way i can describe it is like that micro stuttering i keep hearing about but i thought it only happened with crossfire/sli card

anyone have any ideas ? cheers (oh does overclocking cause that type of issue to ? )

Get a GTX 580, that should improve your fps.

This is common, when switching vendors. If you had just bought a 580gtx and call it a day but going to ATI from nVidia will need a clean clean driver install.

Grab driver cleaner. run it in safe mode,, remove all your nVidia stuff . reboot, to normal mode... then install the latest WHQL , also you might need to change the monitor to what you have.. gl

Give us your full system specs and list games you're referring to other than WoW.

Tweakboy also has a point on cleaning out the drivers.

did uninstall the nvidia drivers before installing the ati ones but will try the drivers cleaning

other games it happens to /modern warfare 3/skyrim /x3 the threat/the witcher 2/bullet storm

complete specs phenom II x6 clocked to 3.5ghz , ssd ocz agility 3 drive, 4gb ssd ram ,samsung 500gb hardrive where games are installed

Many of the games you listed are relatively CPU-limited.

An update for Skyrim apparently improved performance on AMD CPUs, so look for that. As for why you are getting stuttering, it could be more complicated. Have you run Afterburner in the background to see what the clocks, temps, and framerates are? That will help narrow down the potential problems.

Keep in mind that jumping from 1280x1024 to 1920x1080 is a huge difference. You'd need 1.58x the processing power just to produce the same framerate as the older resolution, and the 6950 is not 1.58x faster. So right off the bat, you should have lower framerates than you had before. The WoW test at lower resolution is odd, but that's a CPU-limited game too. At best, where there is no cpu-limitation at all, it's 1.5x faster.
