Okay guys, I'm at my wits end with this one, so I was hoping someone here could help me figure this one out.
First up, my specs. I have:
MSI Z77A-g41 motherboard
i5 3570
16 gb RAM
GeForce GTX 770
Antec 750W PSU
And 3, relatively old HHDs (which is where I'm starting to suspect the problem is)
So here's my situation. Everything was running just fine last night when I went to bed. When I got up the next day, I noticed that I was having difficulties with Chrome, specifically that every link I clicked on opened a new tab and if I clicked on that tab, it would close itself.
I ran Avast and Malwarebytes with not threats found.
Okay, no big deal. I have Firefox as well and I can keep searching for a solution.
That's why things got worse. After restarting my computer, I started losing more than just Chrome. Now, I couldn't click on any window and have it actually do anything! I can still move the mouse around, so it's not lagging out kind of frozen; it just doesn't have an effect. It got so bad, that now, even clicking on anything on screen is a hit or miss on if it does anything!
*Something I should note here, it didn't seem like it was a problem with my mouse or anything like that. I could click and move around in the BIOS just fine. It was only in Windows that this happened.
After trying everything else I could think of, I'd had enough and fdisked the hard drive with the OS on it and reinstalled. That came with its own set of problems (it's not recognizing my network card), but more importantly, I'm still having the same issue with the delay or just total unresponsiveness in Windows.
So that's where I'm at. I don't know what else to try. Has anyone else run into something like this? Am I right in assuming that my hard drive finally died on me and if so, do they typically just take a dive like this?
Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
