I recentley reinstalled Windows and basically have some interesting problems.

Most everything works fine except several programs

Spybot refuses to intall. I click the install button, and it just closes, and nothing else happens

Gtalk just refuses to start up. It just says it has an error and just doesnt do anything.

Microsoft Office 2003 crashes everytime I load it up. Powerpoint works fine though..

Any help?

I've tried reinstalling several times

Well, have you run all the updates yet? Running the most recent version of each piece of software?

I've run all updates.

Actually, The Omega Drivers are giving me problems as well. I've downloaded Basic drivers for my 9600, but the Omega Drivers hang at the installation screen, and basically sits there and installs the Start menu items, and nothing else.

I had a problem like this once
and never did find out what caused it
so I chucked it down to a corrupt installation and reinstalled

here?s how to get a good install each time
(once u get it working again) it will save you LOADS of time

**********************************************************************
After you reinstall make an image of the clean install with no other programs on it but windows and the cloning (imaging) program
you can usually reinstall from a cloned image in just a few minutes
I think my computer takes 4 minutes to reinstall from an image
once you made an image of a clean install call it "new install" (or some such)

DO NOT INSTALL ANY MS UPDATES ON THIS FIRST IMAGE
this is very important because sometimes MS updates break things and you have to start over
once you have the ?new install? image
install all MS updates and make another image called ?Updated new install? (or some such)
once you find this updated image is running fine (I usually wait a month or so)
you can delete the first ?new install? image as you will never need it again
but keep the ?Updated new install? image for ever or as long as you want to run that OS

take a few days to install all your programs and windows settings that you want
after a few days make another image of the hard drive, call this one "full install" (or some such)
this image also take only a few minutes to restore.

This way if you ever want to start fresh you have a clean install and/or if you want you can reinstall
with all your programs and settings

sometimes I find that I want to start fresh because too many programs are up-dated changed or are no longer supported and I moved on to new better programs. So in these cases I reinstall with the clean (new install) version of my backups

ALLWAYS ALLWAYS back up your personal information, pictures and anything elese that is important to you, like your web links to Anandtech
because even though making an image of your HD (an exact copy of your HD in a file format)
things can go wrong and you will have to start from fresh with the windows CD
and all that valued info is gone
I personally use an old 4 gig HD to back up and store personal info
and only plug it in when I?m backing up info
once a year or so LOL
but my data on it is only a few hundred megs or so
so i could use a smaller HD if i had one
i don?t back up my info on cd's or dvd's
i use to till ones of my CD's got scratched up and i lost all my info
HD's are much more reliable and while they can die to (nothing is perfect)
I think they are much more scratch resistant

Hope this helps

Dumb question but did you have EVERYTHING plugged in, like all your external drives and peripherals? Just plug in your keyboard and mouse when you do the fresh install. It's when you have other drives plugged in that you start to get weird things going. Also check the date on the computer after the install sometimes that gets goofed and updates won't happen and all sorts other things could go wrong.

Interesting. I would say yes, because I had everything plugged in, but it didn't really seem like too much of a problem.

Looks like I'll have to make a new Nlite Installation.

Is it bad to have Nlite streamline programs?

Sorry for double post

I have My Windows installation on my C drive, yet my AV programs and such are installed on my D Drive. Do I have to format both drives?

I literally reinstalled Windows like 12 times. All with the same result. Word Keeps crashing, and my audio drivers refuse to install.

I've made Nlite Cd's and tried to optimize, no dice. I wonder what to do next
