So have the sox.

That was my point. You can't complain about the Sox leaving men on base as the difference in the series. The yanks have left lots of men on base too.

I don't think Pedro pitched so great tonight. You saw alot of really high pitches, stuff way out of the strikezone... it looked like he had some trouble gripping the ball. I thought I saw him at one point lick his entire hand and then go over to the rosin bag to get some grip. (He did have some really nice backdoor curveballs though)
Meh. Holding a potent Yankees offense to 3 runs in 7 innings is just about the most you can expect out of him. The offense failed him.

Interestingly enough, Arroyo has not lost to the Yankees this season. The Sox have managed to win all 4 of his starts.

Sorry, we'll agree to disagree. Pedro did NOT look sharp to me tonight at all.

I'll take my chances with Arroyo. If you would have asked any yankees fan, we were worried about Game 1, and regardless of Pedro's recent streak against us, Game 2.

The real question mark for the Yanks right now is how healthy is Kevin Brown's back. Last time out in Boston, he got shelled, then his next 2 starts he pitched significantly better (one vs Toronto, and one vs Minny in the ALDS)

What's up with Damon? He looks lost up there batting.

I agree, I was more worried about Schilling and Pedro than Arroyo. I never saw past game two until now. Losing the first two games is a HUGE boost for the Yankees. Yanks in 5, winning @ Fenway.

He throws everything, but when his curve is on he's a beast. Can't tell by looking at the skinny, pale white guy who weighes less than I did in junior high. He's been Boston's *best* pitcher this last month, but he doesn't have the big game experience. He should pitch okay, it's Brown's arm that will likely determine the outcome of game 3. Wakefield hasn't been getting the pitching time recently which could hurt. On the other hand, he has a good overall history against the Yanks. (mental block of a pitch or two)

Boston hasn't looked this timid the first 6 innings all year. They need to get some guys on base and get the pitch count up, even if they don't put huge numbers on the board. Tough struggle for sure. They came back last year against Oakland 0-2. The big worry is that <insert NY clutch hitter here> will bust it up.

Their offense can still explode which should make for some interesting games whatever the outcome. Also credit goes to Tori, how he's getting this performance out of his pitchers I don't know. (maybe because he's the best manager in MLB?)

Go Sox!

btw, Pedro came out and said he was beat by NY, the chants and signs are annoying and disrespectful of the class that exists in the NY dugout. (Jeter, Williams, Godzilla)

It ain't over till it's over man.

Its over.

Tell that to Oakland. If Brown's throwing well, maybe a different story.

I hear what you are saying, but Pedro has talked so much sh*t over the years ("wake up the babe ... I'll drill him in the ass"), the alleged head hunting incidents, etc... as far as I'm concerned, it's Karma.

If they were getting all over Ortiz or something, then ya, I'd agree with you there. I like Ortiz and a bunch of the other guys in the red sox dugout. I have no use for Manny nor Pedro. Even Schilling is ok in my book.

A few bad apples tend to spoil the pie...

You don't find the "Jeter has AIDS" or "GAY-ROD" signs at Fenway disrespectful? I don't think Jeter has ever acted unprofessional on the baseball diamond or in the media to the RedSox... what did he do to deserve that from Boston fans?

And what about Zimmer and Arod charging the mound? Or those 2 guys on trial for beating up Fenway Park groundskeepers?

Bad apples exist on both teams.

I never said they only existed for one team! You made a blanket statement about yankees fans, and I simply provided a counterpoint that Sox fans are no better.

Ya, Zimmer charging the mound was crazy, and Arod should have just walked to first... but nice of Varitek to slug him while he still has his mask on. (And yep, I know A-Rod was mouthing off, but if you think Varitek is an angel...) That's like fighting in hockey when you have face shield and the other guy doesn't. Chickensh*t.

All I was trying to get across is that in Pedro's case, he's part of the problem and maybe if he acted with more class, that wouldn't happen. He's definitely an antoginist, and now he gets some humble pie. I don't really have a problem with the "Who's your daddy" chants and signs because Pedro always has something to say.

What about the Jeter thing? Now that's classless.

*carrot dangle*
*dangle dangle dangle*
*yoink*

Quite funny how you think that's how this is working. In all honesty, if you do that to the best offense in the league, they'll get you. Fact is, yesterday the bullpen faltered, and today the Sox were dominated by Lieber. Hopefully they can get back in the series in Boston, and Schilling ends up being able to pitch again.

Please. The bullpen faltered yesterday for Boston? Schilling was hurt, and he couldn't pitch well. They were losing 6-0 before the bullpen got involved .

Don't forget, the yankees also left alot of men on base.

Go Yankees!

That bullpen was a response to that whole "carrot-dangling" thread... The YANKEES' bullpen faltered. If you had read my other posts I have states many times that Schilling was hurt, and that's why the Sox lost.

Pedro looked great minus one pitch, case closed.

Arroyo has a nasty breaking ball that he throws from a variety of arm angles and at a variety of speeds. He's been great of late, and I'll take my chances with him against Brown.

Funny, Boston has $130M payroll... That's not small potatoes.

Sure... if you round the Yanks' salary down and the Sox' salary up. Fact is, 183 vs. 125 is a HUGE difference... $58M isn't exactly small potatoes, either.

Geezus, you guys are unreal!

What happened to the best team on paper? It was such a bargain at 125M, now all of the sudden it's the yankees winning because they have 180M in payroll?

What was the Angels payroll? Did you guys beat Anaheim because of your payroll?

Get over it. The yanks are outplaying the sox right now.

Like I said, we'll agree to disagree. I don't think Pedro was anywhere near to having his best stuff tonight.

I'm not saying that's the reason the Sox are losing... I'm just saying that that is the single OLDEST argument in the book. They're losing because Schilling is injured and Lieber dominated them, no sh!t. The Sox are in second, that's wonderful, but they're still WAY behind in payroll. To me, that is, uh, unreal.

As a Boston fan I don't really like the "Yankees Suck" chant (neither does Gammons) or anything against Jeter. (a good player who loves the competition) A-Rod is another story, but that was discussed in a thread awhile ago. Shiefield (2nd in my AL MVP list) is also cocky but he backs it up on the field and I respect that.

Pedro's one thing, Manny is another. I have never seen a player near his talent that has so much fun playing the game. After the strike baseball took a major hit. It was Manny, for me, that brought baseball back into the arena of a fun game. I can only assume he's not as well liked because he's constantly good, the same reason many people dislike the Yanks.

I see Boston winning 2 of 3 (if not 3) at Fenway. As for the world series, the winner of the ALCS will be so drained from the battle they'll prob' tank like the Yanks did last year. (the ALCS had the 2 best teams last year, 2 out of the top 3 this year)

Yankees won, OH MY GOSH LOOK AT THEIR PAYROLL! Funny, I didn't hear that when the Marlins beat the Yanks. Then I heard about HEART. The HEART of the Marlins pitchers, the HEART of the team in general. Same thing when the Angels beat the Yanks. I didn't hear anyone complaining about the Yankees payroll then! Boston's payroll is probably more than the Angels and Marlins combined at the time they beat the Yankees (not going by actual stats, too lazy to check it up), but all you hear from Boston is YANKEE PAYROLL. Before the series I heard how "This is the Year!" and how Boston was gonna pitch the Yankee bats into submission, now I hear Payroll complaints. Don't complain now Sox fans, I don't hear the complaints coming from the Marlins fans.

That comment was made by some guy who's made one post recently, so I'll assume that this is directed at me, in which case I again state that I AM NOT USING THAT AS AN EXCUSE, JUST POINTING OUT THAT THE SOX ARE A DISTANT SECOND.

I was just reading this thread, listening to sportstalk radio and browsing other boards and I saw the payroll thing pop up. Was not directed at you, but at BoSox fans in general.

yea, can't believe how unprofessional they are. At least get the names right. Bronson has been solid, if only he got some run support. Hopefully Friday night the sox can turn it around. I respect Jeter, but all this best shortstop ever talk is ridiculous. He's a good shortstop on a good team. His numbers are above average at best. Mariano Rivera, on the other hand, is flat out amazing. At least we Bostonians still have the Pats, they'll destroy the giants/jets combined.

Can't wait for Jets - Pats game. Too bad Giants aren't playing Pats this year, both are very similar teams in terms of gameplan and personnel.
