To me that means that the Patriots equalled this when they went 17-0 themselves, and bested it when they went 18-0 two weeks ago. By losing the Superbowl, they simply did not achieve 19-0 and get the trophy but they had already achieved better than the Dolphins. To me, the numbers don't lie. It's like when someone achieves a new record in the high jump by, let's say, jumping 8"3" when the previous record was 8'2". Even if he/she gets beaten in the next round and looses the gold medal, the record still belongs to that person as having had the best jump ever (until it too is beaten).
So the way I see it, a team will have to get a 19-0 record at one point to best what the Pats achieved this season.
Go Vikings!!!

Until the very last drive that game sucked, it was more a Super Bore than a Super Bowl. Manning MVP? What for, not giving the game away? Dumb Hick. If anybody deserved the MVP it was someone on the Giants Defense and nobody played better in that game than Wes Welker even though his teams offense sucked hard.

What are you talking about? Sure, it may not have been the best-played SB ever, but every drive meant somthing and the suspense was always there. That's what makes good football games, and it was there the whole game. Eli played very well. Not fantastically, but very well. You can't give the MVP to the whole defense or to Coach Spags. Who was more deserving than Eli?

Well, when it's the Superbowl, not giving the game away counts for one hell of a lot. Add to that, his composure throughout the game and his performance on the last drive and you have your MVP.Originally posted by: WhiteTrashWillie

Note the Pats fans do not have to be drunk to be annoying. OP has proven that point already.

although, Pats fans have been exceedingly annoying for the last 7 years or so...and I still find Bears fans annoying as sh1t.

If for nothing else, I wanted the Pats to win just so I don't have to hear Mercury Morris' disgraceful classless display of sportsmanship. All the haters will celebrate the fact that the Pats got what they deserved etc etc. There really is no refuting the fact that the Pats let this one slip away and never deserved to win this game.
To all the haters, I ask you this. If today it was your hometown team approaching an undefeated season, how would you feel about Mercury Morris' annoying rants and champagne popping theatrics? To me, its the epitome of classlessness.
18-1/18-0 < 17-0 because the Pats couldn't finish the deal but to go 18-0 in this era in the NFL is a remarkable accomplishment. It is unfortunate that the Pats will go down in history as a great team that couldn't finish the deal. From now on, every time an NFL team even approaches perfection, the Pats and their infamous 18-1 record will be splatters across newspapers, online and on Sportscenter.

If going undefeated to the superbowl and only losing one game is epic fail, what do you call the teams who busted their asses and didn't even make it out of the main season?
You guys are far too harsh. 17-0 is great. 18-1 is great. Anyone who says otherwise is a pretentious fanboy.

while they did break the rules they were punished. BUT what they did was not that bad. Each team has cameras on teh coach's. BUT they are limited to how many and what they can tape.
What the pats did was have a extra camera on the sidelines wich would go from the scoreboard (showing time, down, yardage etc) and the coach's. That is against the rules.
People calling for the pats to be stripped of games, championships or saying they need to cheat because they don't have the skill or talent are just being stupid.
Matt Walsh, a former Patriots video assistant who now is a golf pro at the Ka'anapli Golf Resort in Lahaina, Hawaii, has suggested to ESPN that he has information that could have exposed the Patriots prior to the situation at the Jets game, which ended with record fines.
"If I had a reason to want to go public or tell a story, I could have done it before it even broke," he told ESPN.com's Mike Fish. "I could have said everything rather than having [Jets coach Eric] Mangini be the one to bring it out."
Walsh, who worked for the Patriots from 1996 until the winter of 2002-03, when he was fired, also has suggested to ESPN that he has information that could be embarrassing for the NFL and the Patriots. He has not been contacted by the league.
"If they're doing a thorough investigation ? they didn't contact me, so draw your own conclusions," Walsh told Fish.

or maybe you're just stupid. The other teams just weren't as good, as arrogant, and as pretentious. Or am I describing the fans? To have such a focus on winning and then failing to even win the one game that counts, that's called failure.

Bingo...
I could have easily seen it go to that Tyree guy with the amazing catch and the TD...
Or someone on the D...maybe Tuck...but the QB always gets it in a close game if he has half way decent numbers.
He out Brady-ed Tom Brady on Sunday, engineering touchdown drives of 80 and 83 yards. His winning drive that ended with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds left put him in rare company. He's only the second quarterback in Super Bowl history to throw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in a winning effort. Joe Montana was the only other (Super Bowl XXIII).

Isn't it interesting that at some points, especially recently, that we had 5-6 Patriots/Brady threads at once. All season long there have been numerous threads, now that they lose the Pat loving mods condense everything into one thread. One of the greatest upsets in sports history won in a dominating fashion, a superior effort to anything the Pats accomplished this season.
Sorry Giants fans you get one thread while we had to deal with 500+ on one of the most epic failures in league history.

Oh, and one more time: Thanks Giants for making this football season not totally suck ass. Just seeing the Pats' perfect season come crashing down in the biggest game of the year has somewhat eased the pain of being a Raiders fan.
