Seriously... Not a big deal? Please.

I'm not satisfied at all with this punishment. Ok, they lose draft picks but a side effect of that is that they actually gain some salary cap relief from that. Say they could have spent $1 million next year on their first round pick. Well, now they have $1 million more to play with in the free agent market.

The real punishment should be to decrease their salary cap for next year.

as far as comparing it to cheating on tests. Please, are you 12? Using strategy to figure out everything you can about the opposing team isn't cheating. If they were on the other sideline with microphones, looking over coach's shoulders, that'd be different, but they weren't.

This is much ado about nothing.

"They just jumped on us like a spider monkey," San Diego fullback Lorenzo Neal said. "I don't care how you look at it, they just played better than us."

Your team is filled with a bunch of morons then. Why would you cheat then? You proved you can smoke the Chargers........If your so good, then why did you need to cheat in the first place? Insecurity? Self esteem issues? Obviously you guys don't feel your THAT good if you needed that edge.

Just in case you forgot:

steal Pronunciation[steel] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation, verb, stole, sto·len, steal·ing, noun

1. to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, esp. secretly or by force: A pickpocket stole his watch.
2. to appropriate (ideas, credit, words, etc.) without right or acknowledgment.

err. it is legal to steal signals. IN fact each team has 2 cameras that are on the coach the whole time.

What the pats did is have ANOTHER camera on the sideline that would go from the coach to the scoreboard. This is against the rules.

the pats where punished fairly.

Now, I haven't read the rulebook or anything but in light of the $750,000 in fines and loss of draft pick(s) I am going to take a leap of faith and assume that they broke the rules. I am going to further assume that whoever gave the go ahead for it knew they where breaking the rules.

So.... exactly how is that not cheating?

I do think all this is being blown out of proportion though. The Pats got caught. Pay whatever penalties the league hands down and move on. If other teams are doing it then I hope they get caught and get similar penalties but that doesn't excuse the Pats.

The guy was caught in the first quarter...

So if you cheat on one of your middle school tests but you're only a quarter of the way through it when the teacher catches you what's going to happen?

I'd like to give you some common sense credit here but, like the hypothetical test, you fail.

They couldn't take advantage of the videotape because it got confiscated so early, it takes time to decode the signals. When you cheat on a test, you benefit as soon as the pencil hits the paper. Bad analogy. And they did get punished for it, they lost a 1st round draft pick plus got fined.
You = not smart.

Ok, let me tell you the ways you're wrong here. For the sake of argument I'll grant you that the Patriots did not have the time to gain any advantage from the video tape.

1. When you cheat on a test you don't benefit as soon as the pencil hit's the paper. You benefit when the test is graded. Nice try but you you got this answer wrong.

2. If you were cheating and you didn't even have the correct answers you'd still be failed. But hey, I'll give you an even simpler more exact analogy. If an Olympic athlete tests positive for pot they're going to have their medal striped from them. I think we can all agree that marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug yet the athlete still loses their medal. The point that you're too slow/unwilling/ethically bankrupt to understand is that if you break the rules/cheat you are punished by loss of credit for the thing which you were caught cheating on. You got this answer wrong too.

i simply do not buy that argument. if taping the signals isn't worth anything then why do it?

pats fan? nope.

while they did break the rules they were punished. BUT what they did was not that bad. Each team has cameras on teh coach's. BUT they are limited to how many and what they can tape.

What the pats did was have a extra camera on the sidelines wich would go from the scoreboard (showing time, down, yardage etc) and the coach's. That is against the rules.

People calling for the pats to be stripped of games, championships or saying they need to cheat because they don't have the skill or talent are just being stupid.

Im not a pats fan, but I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. Its just a media circus like usual, and everyone is jumping on.

Im about as anti-patriots as it gets (steeler fan), but I think they got a pretty harsh penalty.

excuse moi? i have been here all along. i remember when i was a little kid, not being able to see the Pats on TV because home games never sold out. of course everyone likes a winner, but i think real football fans are very loyal to their team in good times and bad. contrast this to the sudden doubling (tripling? more?) of Red Sox fans. especially the hated Pink Hats.

Based on number 2 then every team that has ever had a player caught using steroids should have the game(s) that they were caught forfeited? Almost every team in the league will forfeit games.

although, Pats fans have been exceedingly annoying for the last 7 years or so...and I still find Bears fans annoying as sh1t.

Only if you don't have to play Denver, 1-5 lately. And the one win was with Danny Kannel as the Denver QB.

Proof?

Everyone wants to give Bonds an * and there has been no actual no proof there. The Pats were actually caught cheating.

Plus doing it against the Jet of all people, with that head coach? They should just be disbanded for being that dumb

Exactly, I had this exact discussion with a co-worker today. While Bonds is likely the greatest player to ever play the game despite being immortalized as a villain, Belichik is still worshipped as a God--even though he's the only one proven to be a cheater.

It's sad, b/c the team is ridiculously good. No, I'm not a Giants fan, but I do hate the Patriots

Dear LT: Suck it down, you crybaby. The chargers will beat the pats 9 out of 10 times? LOLOL, ok whatever dude, you can talk as much as you want, we'll quietly rip your hearts out.

Dear Merriman: When you're down 17-0 by the half, celebrating like you're up 30-0 after a sack makes you look like a moron

Dear NFL fans: It's going to be fun watching your heads explode with anger this season. You can whine all you want about this 'scandal', we don't care.

I suggest we place an * on the Patriots superbowl wins. It's obvious they've been cheating the past few years. There's also now reports that they mic'd players to steal calls?

I'm assuming you're for this also?

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...t_key=y&keyword1=bonds

According to that thread you think Bonds should have an *. So obviously the Pats should also because they are cheaters?

Phokus Famous Last Words: "If they weren't punished for it last year, they won't be punished for it this year."

What a tard.
