So 102-60 and tied for the 95th best record in the 100 year history of the game and they don't even make the league championship series...

Is that the worst performance by a 100 win team since the wild card came along?

All time best beats 95th best.

Seattle in 2001 tying the all time MLB record of 116 wins, set by the 1906 Cubs, and then going 4-6 in the playoffs, was worse. But then, you'd know that if you were in any kind of baseball fan at all.

Rollins refused to talk to the media after the game, makes the issue of resigning him a little easier, good luck getting 5 years buddy.

I think going to the ALCS is certainly preferable than losing in the divisional series...

The NLCS could be a fun series since the Brew Crew and Cards don't exactly like each other. Maybe Nyjer Morgan will start some shit and call Pujols "Alberta" again. lol

The easternmost city remaining is...Detroit. MLB must be so pissed.

Also...'06 WS rematch? I'd be okay with that.

And Roy, STOP DOING whatever the FUCK IT IS YOU DO every time you go out there in the first inning! Whatever it is it's not changing and that hurt us today.

Gaaah this one sucks, how does this happen with our pitching!

The guy gave up one run in 8 innings of work. If you had asked any manager of the 6 teams having a game 5 they would take that every time.

What hurt you was Rollins/Pence/Howard/Ibanez/Polanco going 0-fer, and Lee/Oswalt getting rocked.

That's what we get for sweeping Atlanta, maybe if we don't go fucking 8 games in a row without a win after clinching that doesn't happen and we'd get to play Arizona.

Where's mtwgg at? See Ruiz's avg this series bud? A solid .0-fucking-59. Pathetic. Where's Mr. Post Season at to pick us up like before? SOMEONE had to help Jimmy and Chase!

Can't believe you're blaming Halladay at all for this one. You're pissed that he didn't go out and throw a shutout?

Even Carpenter acknowledged the great game that Halladay pitched and how they were lucky to have snuck in a run in the first inning.

That was a great game. A 3 hit shutout from the NH native.

I don't like giving him any blame, I love how he pitches it's almost effortless, but against a pitcher like Carp with our pathetic offense he had a civic duty not to give up any early runs to put us behind the 8-ball like he ALWAYS does and didn't come through in that area. On the blame scale he's probably last or next to last on the team, those runs were still fresh in my mind when I made that pissy post and I don't take it back because it's something a guy like him should have solved by now. Howard deserves 20x the blame sure, but so do 5 or 6 other starting lineup guys that I didn't feel like shredding one after the other. Doc NEEDED to shut them out through 9, it SHOULDN'T be like that but that's playoff baseball for you. Go Flyers.

You must be mistaken. I've been hearing all year that the AL East is the best division in Baseball.

I think making it to the LCS is a lot better than losing your Division Series.

2-3 and 4-6 are actually the exact same win percentage too, but the Mariners actually won a series where the Phillies blew this one.

"Civic duty", LOL, one run is not "behind the 8 ball" either, giving up a 5 spot in one inning is, one run against a playoff-caliber offense is damm good, his ERA for the game was a whopping ONE, your making Philly fans look even worse if that's possible..

Go back to rooting for your Cheatriots, I made my points and if you're going to take my blowing off steam after a bad loss as an indictment on perhaps THE BEST fans in the MLB then go for it. But like I said, against a pitcher like Carpenter with the offense as bad as it is right now 1 run IS behind the 8 ball, you have to take the situation into consideration, not to mention they notoriously didn't hit for Halladay much this season. And I don't think his ERA was 1 for the game, wouldn't he have to go the full 9 to get a 1 ERA to average out? How he got out of the 1st and 8th inning I'll never know, but he also gave up 6 hits to Carpenter's 3, so while Doc was amazing that's how he usually is anyway, he needed to be super-amazing, he needed to be Carpenter. I'm not trying to bash him, in fact I feel bad for him since he deserves a WSC so much.

okay so his ERA for the game was 1.13. Nobody here agrees with the level of blame you're assigning because it's absurd.

Now does one run down matter at least a bit when you're facing an absolutely sizzling playoff veteran? Yeah it does, but the onus is still on the Phillies batters to go out and squeeze out a run in front of the home fans. It's not like they were facing a multi-run deficit that demoralized everyone.

You win some, you lose some, at least the Phillies have tried to win it all.

I have been a phillies fan since the mid 70s and as much as this loss hurts, putting things in perspective this is still a pretty good time to be a Phillies fan.

I'll take the 08 World Series and the playoffs every year with a chance to win it all vs the crap teams they put out there during most of the 80s and 90s and early part of the 00s.

Congrats to the 4 teams remaining!

Exactly.

Imagine being a Baltimore fan.

Baseball should shorten the season and add more playoff teams. Or just extend the playoffs a month.

The AL east has had 13 wildcard teams vs 4 for the other two divisions.
