What did Yogi Berra ever do in St Louis, for St Louis?

St. Louis is where Yogi gave us one of many great yogisms: "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." He said this referring to Ruggeri's, a St. Louis restaurant.

Clearly a quote like that surpasses Freese's on field exploits of today, because 90% of Baseball is 50% mental.

Besides, you simply said St. Louis native.

This, he didn't even come close to catching it, I mean I know it was a line drive but he was playing close to the wall anyway..I was pulling for Texas now on to game 7...

Very poorly played. He didn't even know where the fence was. It was no bill buckner, but was a very catchable ball for having played the wall like that.

One of the GREAT world series games...down to their last strike in the 9th AND 10th inning, yet delivered 2 runs both times. I've never seen a WS game as incredible as this one. It will be more epic if they win tomorrow tho.

If it were only possible to root for the Cards and Nolan Ryan at the same time.

ESPN said that Texas set the record for most blown saves in a WS game with 3 tonight. Omg

And Lance Berkman batting .435, holy hell. You could make a great argument for him as MVP over Freese.

meh. No one really expects more than 1 blown save in a game, anyway.

I called Texas in 7 at the beginning and standing by it. Keep in mind that Texas hasn't lost 2 games in a row in 2 months they said.

Yeah, tonight was a shot to the testicles but they still have one more shot to KO the Cards for good.

Well, I don't give a dick about Ryan, but I do want to see Hamilton win.

While I pull for the Cards (I like LaRussa, Pujols, the organization and the team; and also: anyone but AL ), I would like to see Texas win, too--despite my blanket dislike concerning anything Texas.

Yeah, that's still incredible given the talent of the bullpens of these teams. If you were to say that Texas would have blown the game 3 times in 1 night at the beginning of the series, I'd have said it was 1000:1 odds...

This just caps some amazing sports we've seen this year from B's/Canucks in hockey, Mavs upsetting the "dream team", and now an improbable, unpossible St.L team forcing a game 7 vs Texas who is close to winning their first ever WS.

I've almost always been an NL fan...which is why I don't get it that you don't give a cr@p about Ryan. What he did in the NL was iconic. (so he did the same in the AL, so what ) Yeah, Hamilton and what he's done thru his adversity is worthy of cheering for, but the nod goes infinitely to Ryan, who stayed the course for a ridiculous 27 years.

Pujols is awesome, LaRussa is a great general, and Freese had a game of his life, but Berkman deserves a lot of props and has been ROCK solid in this series. .400+ average, and fought off key pitches in the 9th to earn a critical walk (and then scored), and made the game tying single in the 10th. Awesome performance by him and freese.

Just 1 HR and 5 RBIs, so he's just a slim front-runner. I like how in the on-field interview, Berkman confirmed that he's just a see ball hit ball batter. He didn't fight off any pitches in the 9th, they clearly pitched around him. Pujols could steal the award if he puts up a monster game, but the Rangers won't pitch to him.

On the other side, Napoli has it locked up if the Rangers win. Not to defend Cruz but was there any video of his break on Freese's clutch line drive? Cruz is built like a lumbering 1st baseman, he shouldn't even be in the outfield late in a game but Washington already used up his defensive OF substitution. (Yeah I'm just ripping on Wash tonight.)

Speaking of Nolan Ryan, anyone remember when Robin Ventura charged him and Ryan promptly wrangled Ventura like a calf? That was awesome, and reminds me that Ventura will be facing Ryan's team now that he is managing the White Sox.

Another Ryan memory: In 1989 or 1990, I went to a Mariners game where Ryan was pitching with Texas. The promotion? M's guaranteed Nolan Ryan would throw a no-hitter or you got a free ticket for an upcoming game. Of course in those days M's were lucky to get 10,000 in the Kingdome.

I don't have it recorded but thought Berkman fouled off some balls in the 9th and had a solid at bat...no?

/edit: not that he would deserve less credit, he's been a monster and it would be stupid to give him something to hit.

I could not see how he broke on the ball either, but that is what I surmised with my post at the time as well. He just looked too awkward to have had a good look/jump on the ball.

Pujols had doubled with 1 out. Berkman has been the Cards best hitter, so they walked him on no more than 5 pitches with 1st base open. Can't really argue with that to be honest, like you said.

It sounds indefensible that an OF could be playing deep and not get to the wall, but he wasn't even close. I wouldn't judge the fielding without seeing how he reacted. They did show a zoomed in replay of him running back, but that didn't tell us much.

Ryan's beatdown of Ventura in '93

Age 46, walking towards Ventura as Ventura is charging, then pummels him.
