Yeah, teams tend to start figuring him out after the first two times through the order.

He also stops getting the strikes at the knees, which are basically his entire game. Not sure why, but it seems umpires tend to tighten up the strike zone on him as the game progresses.

He needs to develop a decent breaking ball or slider to keep everyone honest. He's had what looks like a cutter going really well tonight, tailing back over the corners. If he had any sort of a slider that he could disguise as one of his patented hanging sinkers (into the 5th row), he might win some games.

Kendrick's going back out there, oh well. One of the mitigating factors is that Madson and Bastardo and Stutes all aren't available due to workload. Jeebus, I hope the Rockies keep missing KK's pitches, this would be a nice one to "steal."

Light 'em up Lidge is available. Also, with the way Stutes has been getting lit up, I'm not sure I'd want him out there in the 7th anyway.

Yeah, I've really liked the motion and his location with that cutter. Dare to hope? Oooooo, he just struck out the first batter in seventh! It's just that things can go south in a hurry in Coors Field, especially for a pitcher like Kendrick.

Kendrick is pulling a J.D. Durbin tonight.

Any Phils fans offended by that one?

Anyone catch the smirk on Howard's face before that pitch that he just hit out?

Anyone catch the fact that it's now August? Guess Howard thought July had 32 days. He's ready now.

I need Adams to tank so I can cut him from my fantasy team and bring Polanco back off the DL anyway.

Lolololol, "a season high" 6 strikeouts for Kyle "KKKKKKiller" Kendrick.

Gasp . . . now 7.

I said he was pulling a J.D. Durbin. You obviously didn't get it

All I remember is that he was a short-lived swing man who sucked at both starting and relieving.

Jered Weaver has been suspended six games for throwing at Alex Avila's head.

Yep, he will miss a start as expected. Not to beat a dead horse, but that inning was nominated as "Inning of the Year" by MLBTV!

I agree with class act Mike Scioscia:
On the "Mason & Ireland Show" on 710 ESPN in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Scioscia said: "What Carlos Guillen did, it was crazy. I don't know if I've ever seen anybody stand and do something like that at home plate.

"I don't think anyone's happy when a pitcher of Jered's magnitude is given a suspension," Scioscia said. "Sure, you'd love to go back and take some of that element out. I wish the two Detroit guys didn't stand there and watch their home runs. There are a lot of things. I wish we had won the ball game. How far do you want to go with this?"

In other news, Mark Teixeira has turned on beast mode by setting the record for most games with switch hit HRs, passing Eddie Murray. Furthermore, he is the first player since Pujols to hit at least 30HRs for 8 years in his first 9 seasons (Pujols went 9 for 9 though). If baseball had Assistant Captains like hockey, he would be my first choice for the Yanks. Also I may even move him up over Eddie Murray and Alomar on my switch hitter all time ranking if he keeps it up.

It certainly has high entertainment value, as did the whole game, but I'm not sure that's the kind of stuff MLB wants to promote. Oh well.

Dare I ask if by "Light em up Lidge" you mean he will get shelled or he will k them? Not sure I want to know.

PS: The Phillies only have to win 30 of 53 (.566 ball) to win 100 games. They are playing .642 ball right now. Holy hell.

Read over on the Detroit board, something about an elbow to Verlander during a rundown? What happened regarding that? Man, that game had a little of everything it seems.

Aybar (who had reached via the bunt error) was caught in a rundown between third at home later in the inning. Don Kelly threw to Verlander entirely too late, and JV was standing in the basepath. Aybar ran through him with a little more elbow than was probably necessary. I didn't think it was egregious, but it has hardly been mentioned with all the other goings-on.

Dam, the plot thickens. Now I kind of understand why JV was threatening Aybar from the dugout. What a game.

When Aybar scored during the rundown, he threw what Verlander described as "a jab" across his chest.

"I didn't even realize it when he did it," Verlander said. "I felt it walking back to the mound. That's when I realized he hit me. The guy hit me. Unbelievable.

"I was standing in the baseline, I'll give him that. And the throw was getting there at the same time (as Aybar did). I guess he could have really chucked me, or tried to."

Verlander had a verbal exchange in the middle of the eighth, after Aybar came out to play defense.

Was the exchange about the bunt or the contact made during the rundown?

"Both," Verlander said. "We're both men. This game has a tendency to work things out on its own. There is no need to do or say anything drastic at this point in time, especially in a game like this."

Aybar told the Orange County (Calif.) Register that Verlander told him he was going to hit him next year. The teams won't meet again this regular season.
