Why do people think McCain won? Do people like smug assholes?

And people think Obama is the elitist. McCain has been pretty condescending in all the debates, but he seemed really bad in this one.

Obama kept his cool and remained respectful. I'd hope McCain doesn't intend to act so condescending towards heads of other states (especially ones where he may not agree with their policies), because that's probably a great way to make enemies. I mean after going on his show, O'Reilly almost had a man-crush for Obama. He may not have agreed with all his policies (actually, probably didn't agree with most of them), but Obama was confident, personable, and respectful, and in turn was able to earn Bill's respect. To me this seems like a great quality for a president -- a loose cannon like McCain might do more harm than good.

What are you seeing? Soledad just showed 10 McCain to 15 to Obama. The analyst panel was I think a final of 106 Obama to McCain 99.

Bullshit.

CNN just polled their independent audience; 15 to 9 preferred Obama.

The pundits were leaning Obama as well.

It would have been hilarious (but a poor move) if at the end, Obama would have said, "just one more thing," smiled, said "Maverick!" and winked at the camera.

Obama was horrible tonight, clearly McCain blew him out of the water.

After all he has an opponent that pals around with Terrists, hell he launched his political career in the living room of a terrist.

Facts are Facts

Oh man, i think McCain lost this debate big time. A much larger margin that the previous 2 debates that the lost.

According to Hannity McCain always wins hands down. Hell he could go on a racist tirade and Hannity would still get down on his knees for him.

Which way would hannity face???

Hannity attacking an economist in September, alleging that there was no impending doom

You missed my point.

Hannity ... on knees ... which direction?

Either....he takes it both ways

Keep even? Even with the smug, erratic, confused, lying McCain?

When Bob asked McCain about Palin, the CNN dial testers showed a positive response from men, but the women literally flat-lined.

Palin is kryptonite for women.

Best spin line I heard after the debate:

"John McCain went into the debate with three quarters of the country thinking he is running a negative campaign, and McCain spent half the debate trying to convince the other one third"

Interesting as NBC just showed a stat that McCain ran negative ads 73% of the time (fact check). Obama was at 61% of the time.

100% of McCains ads were negative at one point over a weekend.

Overall one thing struck me about each candidate:
McCain - anger below the surface
Obama - cool and collected.

I would rather have a president who has control.

He is definitely smug and a liar but debate-wise he did well. As a personal preference, I would have liked to hear Obama speak a little more about how unqualified Palin is as VP and also about the negative tone of the campaign. The moderator asked a direct question about their VP choices and Obama didn't even mention Palin's abuse of power? McCain came off as the one who had been abused by Congressman Lewis and the viewers heard nothing of the nastiness that has become normal for Republican rallies.

However, I understand most people don't like negativity so he just played it safe. I think McCain did well but it isn't going to change anything. If only he had tried to get the independent vote instead of the far-right he would be doing a lot better.

Wouldn't that signify control?

CBS just came out with a poll they just did of what were undecided voters before the debate and 53% percent though Obama won while only 22% thought McCain won.

CNN also has come out with a poll and Obama won 58% to 31% regarding who won the debate.
