Anyone know if you can use different software with the IR on the board? I don't really care about their settings and would like to use something like a Harmony 880 that I have to control things on the PC (for media box) so I was wondering if anyone has done any attempts at using another piece of IR software with this hardware?

If I need to buy a new IR receiver I probably will but don't know a lot about IR so thought maybe this thing would work with other software since it's just receiving signals, but again, I know little about the subject.

Thanks!

I have 4 discs 2 raid1 and 2 raid0.
last few days computer was crashing etc... and on boot up I saw on Jmicron messages that one of raid 1 discs has errors. I found it funny since the raid1 volume had system on it and it was working.
Now it does not work anymore. What I find odd is that before Jmicron boot message showed me discs and status (disc 1 part of raid1, disc 2...3...4. and firs one stated error) now there is no status of discs! it says found no any drive. also other drives that were on raid 0 are not stated.

What to do?

I am worried since I have baby pictures on raid0 and wife will kill me if i dont get them back

I would appreciate any help or information.

thank you!

Can anybody help?

I'm adding hardware to my P5W DH Deluxe board and not sure which connectors.

I have the boot drive to SATA 1 on board.

DVD burner is in SATA 3.

Sata 4 is open, as is the PRI_IDE and PRI_EIDE and JMICRON SATA connectors.

A call to Asus didn't instill me with confidence as to where to plug in the following:

3gbs SATA hard drive
two IDE drives
another SATA DVD burner

Appreciate any insights, thanks

I have always had mine turned off as I use a pro sound card. Never had this issue. make sure its turned off in control panel as well. If that dont fix the problem then check and make sure your cmos battery is good to go.

Actually, now that I think about it, i had dual boot. One boot for my music production and one for my games. the one for games had onboard sound. The boot for music had a pro sound card. So, in fact, it was always turned on in bios. i just had it turned off in control panel. And it worked just fine for me.

hello, I just got a P5W-DH and I've been having trouble with the mb recognizing my keyboard. The USB ports are not recognized as well. Could the problem be that I need to flash with a new BIOS? I am running the P5W-DH with a C2D E6700 and the BIOS chip looks like it has a 0701 BIOS.

yeah... I would update the bios... but don't update the bios using the Update program within in windows... I've bricked my motherboard 3 times now doing that... you'd a thunk I would have learned after the first two times..

i've since updated my BIOS to the latest BIOS version for the P5W Dh Deluxe, version 2206, and the problem of non-functional USB ports are still happening and my onboard sound does not work. Does anyone know how I can diagnose the problem properly and see if it is a bad BIOS flash. Windows works fine - the audio and USB ports just dont work.

Are you sure you have them wired to mobo correctly? Are your usb ports in rear (on mobo) not working or just the front ports? Keep in mind too that two of the rear usb's are set up for the remote and such and can seem like they arent working if you plug in something like a printer etc.

PC freeze when going to standby mode

Hello,

Is standby mode working using Vista with this motherboard (I read some threads about this problem)?

When going to sleep, the screen display is turned off, there is some disk activity but the PC freezes (num key doesn't work and fans are still running).
Since I have the P5W DH card, I used bios 1901 and now 2206.
I have the latest drivers for Creative X-Fi Xtrem Music and LeadTek TV2000XP Expert.
I use forceware 163.69.

I read in Asus FAQ and tried what is suggested (it doesn't change anything for me):
This is VISTA OS problem. VISTA does not allow system to enter Standby mode, if "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" for an USB or PS/2 wake supported device (such as mouse or keyboard) has been checked under "Device Manager", while the used USB or PS/2 port has not switched its power mode to +5VSB, which allows delivery of standby power to USB or PS/2 ports under soft OFF state.
As VISTA enables this option per default, and motherboards often set USB power modes to +5V at the same time, this two settings may result in conflict, hence causes this trouble.

To fix this, simply uncheck "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" for your USB mouse and PS/2 keyboard under "Device Manager", if you do not desire to wake the system via your USB mouse and/or PS/2 keyboard.

What do you think? P5W bios problem? (I know some other PCs with Gigabyte motherboards and Vista: standby mode works. But these PCs don't have additional cards like TV or sound card)

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hello,

The problem is solved after some Vista updates and X-Fi updates.

I installed the following Creative updates:
SBXF_PCDVT_LB_2_15_0003 (driver and audio console)
CSL_PCAPP_LB_2_40_09 (console launcher)
ALXF_PCVTAPP_LB_1_00_11 (alchemy)

and the following Vista patches:
Windows6.0-KB941229-x86
msxml4-KB941833
Windows6.0-KB941651-x86
and these which are more related to my problem:
Windows6.0-KB941600-x86

Windows6.0-KB941649-x86

Can somebody answer a nub question for me? Can overclocking (the CPU) kill or shorten the lifespan of video cards (non-overclock)?

The reason I asked is because I have this MB and a E6600 overclocked to 3GHz (have to increase the NB voltage to get it stable, but I don't remember by how much). I originally had the X1900XT and the system had been stable for over a year, but then a few months ago the X1900XT died, so I bought a 7600GT to temporary replace it until next-gen cards come out. The 7600GT didn't work with the top pcie slot for some reason, so I had to put it on the bottom slot.

Well, just today the 7600GT is also dead - lasted just over a month. It's either that this mobo is shorting the lifespan of the graphic cards I put in it or I am just very unlucky.

I'm about to buy the 88000GT and now I'm unsure about putting it in this MB. Any suggestion?

while OCing, did you remember to lock the PCI-E and PCI frequencies to 100MHz and 33.3MHz respectively? if you left them to auto, both of the bus frequencies will increase as you increase the FSB. also, to get an e6600 to 3GHz is not really much of a feat and unless you are actually using all 4 DIMMS, you will not need to increase vMCH; all that is needed is an increase in vCore - however, sometimes that is not even needed and it will often run stabel at stock voltages.

hope that helps

I have the EVGA 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 650mhz in my P5W DH Deluxe and it runs perfect! It has amazed me as it lets me set my supposedly 720P HDTV's resolution to 1920x1080 and movies looks amazing! =D

Hello all,

Seeing if I can get some ideas on this problem. First this is the first system I have built so learning new stuff. Got the P5W with a Pentium 3.0. Trying to boot for the first time with no success. Only the HD is plugged in right now, no CD drives. HD is Sata out of an old computer with working Windows XP SP2. A single 512 MB of ram to avoid ram conflicts.

After bios screen only a blinking underscore appears. Sorry for my ignorance if I didn't provide enough details. Thanks.

when putting together a new system, it is best to use a new/reformatted hard drive and reinstall the OS. have you tried that?

just curious, which processor do you have exactly? (i.e. Pentium D 830, 930, Pentium 4 530, 630)

I have not tried to format the hard drive with a new install but will do that next. Any special install stuff needed to be done? Currently I have the Pentium 4 630 which seems to be detected fine by the MB in the Bios section. Hoping to get a new processor soon and the reason for this new MB purchase for OC. Thanks for your help with this.

my system has been running stable for the last year. i decided to do a clean install of xp after a year of use. i have an ide hd (160gb wd) connected to the jmicron ide port. boots up fine, but when i resume from sleep / suspend, the hard drive is no longer detected, and sometimes i get a "Delayed Write Failed" message. this hd hasn't caused me any problems, and i don't see any reason why it would start giving me any issues now. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Nothing really needed other than the standard mobo drivers.
