Best place I had steak was at Morton's. Unfortunately I don't know where to get prime beef so I haven't been able to try it at home.

I wouldnt consider other types of dry seasonings to be criminal though...any type of dry rub is fine IMO.

Mmm, I have 4lbs of beef ribs marinating right now to go on the grill tomorrow for a nice 2 hour cook. During the last 20 minutes I'll start basting them with my own BBQ sauce.

I'm going to start off dinner with a ceasar salad (homemade recipe) and then maybe some BBQ corn on the cob and baked potatos with the ribs.

Got to love the power of marketing.

Yeah - I noticed that too. Angus is a type of cattle - not a cut of meat. So you can have a Black Angus Ribeye, a Black Angus Filet, Black Angus Hamburder, etc.

Who dug this old thread up?

the ultimate steak experience was at Eddie McGriff's restaurant in Moab, Utah... known as one of the oldest and most popular joint in town

12oz Ribeye... well-marbled (probably USDA prime... usda choice, at the least).. topped with gorgonzola butter & caramelized onion
Sauteed mushrooms
Giant baked potato
In-house brewed ale

the steak as 18$.. which is an absolute steal per se... the rest of the food was superb and the service was outstanding

outstanding steak, my 2 favorite vegetables: mushroom & onions, microbrew beer, and good friends. it could not have been better

Sirloin( or any of the more "solid" cuts, I could give a rat's ass about "tender", I have teeth!), WELL DONE, no pink anywhere, with a lot of garlic and lawry's salt and a little bit of pepper, grilled by me, who seems to be one of the few people who can cook a steak well done wihout smoking it on one side. A couple of baked potatoes with butter, and some iced tea with NO DAMN LEMON!

Best steak I ever had period was at the Dearborn St station in Chicago when I was 12. I had this huge hunk of meat, and it was awesome! I have no idea what it had in it, but nothing has come close since. I dream about that dinner. Best fries I have ever had in a "good" restaurant too.

Best steak recently was at a "Mr.Steak" of all places and It was fantastic! Never had one even close to it before or after that one there..Like hitting the lottery!

I also prefer oven over grill anyday. Grilling ruins the steak IMO.

The best steak I've had at a restaurant is at Chops here in Atlanta. But I prefer to cook my own at home as it's better than any restaurant steaks.

how do you cook it in the oven?

..thanks.

for christmas, my grandma gets a huge cut of prime rib. We rub it in mustard and peppercorns, put it on the rotisserie(sp?) for 8-12 hours, comes out pink and juicy, you can cut it with a fork, we keep the fat on it for flavor...man is it delicious.

ps is it christmas yet?

I switch to another pan before I put it in the oven. Otherwise the steak will be burnt on the outside. I dunno maybe I'm letting the skillet get too hot or something...

best ive had was one i made at home, fried quickly in butter...after the steak was done, i deglazed with cognac, then added some heavy cream and alot of fresh cracked black pepper and reduced....

i dont usually like a sauce on my steak, or even most food, but damn that was good. was an alton brown recipe, and a damn tasty one at that.

otherwise if im out i order it medium, no sauce. a good pan-seared steak is awesome as well.
