ive had more blue engrams turn into legendry's than I have seen legendary engrams drop

and most are for non class items. only a cpl ive been able to use

The drops in this game still piss me off. I'm lvl 27 and have gotten just three legendary engrams, never gotten anything exotic. Two turned into stuff for Warlock and I am Titan, and only one turned into something I could use, Legendary Sniper Rifle.

At least your still not 22 I pretty much just stopped playing because I don't get anywhere lol.

Had the same issue until I found an article to farm public events for Vanguard Marks and went up levels fast. Bought all legendary gear from the vendor and I'm rolling pretty good now. I suggest doing that because doing strikes is a waste of time until you're like 27 or 28 because they take forever to complete except for getting strange coins early on.

Yea my problem is i also don't get a lot of time to play. But then when I do I usually don't run into anything good.

Public events are at fixed locations at fixed times. If you have a smartphone (at least on Android, no idea about iOS/WP), download Destiny Timers and never miss an event You can even get notifications about them.

No need to play a lot to get your vanguard marks up fast.

Cool I didn't know about that. I will check it out and see if I can use it to my advantage.

Edit: I know the game doesn't have an in game map for say example earth, and other planets. Do you guys memorize where you are suppose to go? I don't exactly do that.

I memorized where each location is. For example if it says the mothyards I know it is the spot on earth with the plane graveyard. I don't need to know the exact location because when you go to the area you will get a waypoint.

If you use destinypublicevents.com it will show you a map but the map doesn't help guide you from wherever you are.

The maps aren't big, so yea. I just know where it is. And after a few events you'll look at the clock and know where you should go (Earth has the most).

There's always a time period where the event can spawn. And not every event happens every time (some are uncommon, so don't worry if it won't spawn). For example - the Fallen Walker in The Divide is very common (like 95% change - I've seen it not spawn maybe 3 times tops) and spawns around xx:15 and xx:45 every hour. That means you gotta be there from xx:10 to xx:20 and from xx:40 to xx:50 (that's the timeframe it can spawn). Also, if you're not there at the earliest time (xx:10 / xx:40), the event will most likely not spawn, as the game checks if there are any Guardians in the zone with sufficiently high level before ir decides if an event should spawn. If there's nobody satisfying the criteria, the event will not spawn in the current window.

You don't always get the right weapons from drops. Relying on the game to give you weapons is folly. Your best bet is buying what you want from venders until you can buy stuff from xur with strange coins or get exotic bounties. Weapons like Shadow Price, Vanquisher, Grim Citizen don't often come from engrams. Every time you rank vanguard past 3 you have a chance to get items as a reward through the postmaster. I've gotten a legendary scout rifle, & the devil you know hand cannon that way. I've never gotten weapons worth anything from nightfall, weekly, or vanguard strikes. I have seen people get exotics that way but it is not a good idea to rely on that. The only weapons I've received as rewards came from the Vault of Glass. The RNG in this game is unreliable at best.

My Vanguard is rank 13 because I always do my daily bounties and daily story and max my marks each week. I also maxed all my gear as I went. I had legendary stuff and maxed it, got an exotic piece and maxed it, got raid gloves and maxed them, got raid helmet now and am working on maxing it. The extra defense is important. Your weapons are important, You should try to get Legendary weapons and level them. Don't rely on the game to give them from drops. If you have to, buy them. Guaranteed legendary stuff is better than sitting on Rares too long. If you max your marks weekly which takes almost no effort, you can buy a full legendary set in about two weeks and a legendary weapon in about another week. I've seen people complain about not getting stuff from drops when all they have to do to progress is buy some legendary stuff from vendors. You can hit level 28 from vanguard, faction, or crucible gear.

PvP might be a different story, I don't play that so maybe there is a gun that you have to buy that is amazing. I play with a legendary auto rifle that I got from a drop at basically level 19 or 20. No need to worry about getting the exotics. Exotics come pretty regularly if you are doing the bounties.

Most people should only focus on getting armor from Vanguard if money is scarce. That is the only way you level up. You can be a lvl 23 with the best gun in the game and still get owned during the raids. You can have a crappy blue lvl 20 gun and kill it if you are level 28.

There are two guns IMHO that are game changers.
The exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn(one hit kills of major enemies) and the sniper rifle that reloads itself(allows you to basically cheat the story/raid if you have the right spots picked out).

Now that I am almost a lvl 29 there is really not a point in playing the raids/game anymore. I will put this down until there is an expansion in December or something. If they fix the social aspect of the game I will come back(horrible matchmaking, Why should I have to rely on destinylfg to find a team?). Vault of Glass is incredibly fun if you have a good team with you.

Do you even know what RNG is? It means random number generator. That's how the game determines if you get a drop, what it will be, and what upgrade perks it has attached. The drops are so random you cannot rely on it to get good stuff. The fact that you got some legendary AR around lv19 doesn't change the fact that a lot of people don't and have to buy stuff from venders. I got Monte Carlo from a Legendary Engram that I got from a chest on the moon, does that mean I tell everyone it's easy to get weapons? Hell no. Plus a lot of the exotic bounties give weapons that just aren't that good and often are outperformed by legendaries(which is why Bungie is working on some buffs for a few of them). You need damage in the raid, there is a reason some groups ask you what weapons you are using and how far they are upgraded(mostly in hard mode though). Praetorians will own you even if you are level 29 if you don't have enough damage on them.

You also rely on RNG for ascendent materials. You don't always get shards, and you don't always get energy. Sometimes it seems like you get more of one than another, but one is not easier to get than the other. I may get energy for a week and never see a shard. Next week it can be reversed.

This is pretty much the experience of the majority of players. Even myself for the most part. Yeah when you play over 150 hours like I have, you will get some legendary drops. That doesn't mean they rain down or anything.

As I said the game stacks RNG on top of RNG and throws RNG on again. You roll a number to see if you get an engram, then it rolls again to see what type of engram, then roll again to see what slot, then roll again to see what particular item, then roll a final time to determine the stats on the armor and the upgrade perks on weapons. The only difference now is if you do happen to get a legendary engram it will always be legendary or better when you decrypt it. Blues can not turn to green gear. Legendary engrams generally don't drop with great frequency, again it's RNG which is 100% luck. That's why buying stuff from venders, be it armor or weapons is highly recommended. It takes no effort and you do not rely on luck.

Cmdredd I don't know if you are butt hurt because you don't agree with me. I understand what RNG is. My point is weapons are much less important than armor at level 20 to 28. If you so happen to get the exotics that I listed before you will have an edge. I still don't have those weapons but I do have a few decent purple guns. I don't use the exotic pulse rifle I have, it is horrible.

If you have limited marks at 20 first thing you should buy is armor. Upgrade that while using blue weapons. It is the fastest way to level up period. Level is far more important than weapons from what I can tell. I don't have numbers to back that up so I could be wrong. If you have a green pathetic weapon then yes you probably need to a decent weapon.

Either way the game is still a lot of fun. It is halo with an RPG element that is not too complex. Cant wait for more content

I do agree with cmdredd and everyone else that drop system does suck. After the change it is much approved. Every blue engram I got would turn green.

Heh...there is a list somewhere that tells you which bounty is for which weapon. I don't remember them all. I generally skip them and don't bother.

That's what I thought, but doing tiger strikes got me up to 20 pretty quick. Assload of engrams too, good amount of rep, and easily maxed vanguard marks.

Did I totally miss it, or is there zero warning/info on the limit of one exotic weapon/piece of armor at a time? I bought chest piece and a hand engram from Xur, and got the limit info once I equipped the chest. BS waste of motes, unless I missed the info/warning ahead of time.

I don't see why they didn't let you have two pieces. I'd like to hear their idea behind that decision. Maybe it was to force you into raid gear or something.

Tried doing the weekly with me and a friend last night, we are both 27 and it was a lvl 22 strike Hive on earth with the Big guy in chains. We both kept getting our ass kicked. Just gave up after five tries. Because the game is the way it is, it's difficult for me to complete strikes with friends.

Tried doing the weekly with me and a friend last night, we are both 27 and it was a lvl 22 strike Hive on earth with the Big guy in chains. We both kept getting our ass kicked. Just gave up after five tries. Because the game is the way it is, it's difficult for me to complete strikes with friends.

Did you get it directly on the reward screen? Or from a legendary engram you got as a reward for finishing the strike?
