I didn't even know that was the best place to farm. I thought about just white mobs in MP10, but never actually did it. Oh well. I figure I will hit 100 eventually (I am at 56 on my barb).

yea it was the best place to farm xp bar none, upwards of 120-150mil xp per hour.

What!!!! When this happen? I'm so close @ 92, but then again I heard that's only 75% of the way there.

Wyatt Cheng - Game Designer

Scorpions have had their XP reduced. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. We looked and considered buffing everything else instead, but in light of the multiplayer buffs we were already providing, we didn't want to inflate the game as a whole even further.

Specifically, Scorpions have had their XP reduced by 75%. That probably sounds like a lot at an emotional level, because it's never fun to have a source of XP reduced by that much, but I hope some can agree if you think about it - a mallet lord is worth 1.5x the xp a scorpion is. And that's not just mallet lords, most of the monsters in the game are within a certain reasonable ratio of one another and the scorpions were a very obvious outlier.

To be fair, it makes a lot of sense. They have such low HP and for them to be worth that much XP does have a bit of an imbalance. Sadly, this 'nerfs' the Crater runs in general though, since they are filled with them.

It does make sense, but this does hurt the Crater pretty badly though. I'll likely stick with the keeps, bridge, rakkis, and skycrow. Also, what happened to buffing monster density in other acts?

Maybe they did, but since nobody plays them, nobody noticed. >_<

Nah, I've tried act 1 and I do Elite hunts in VOTA and Canyon in Act 2. No area in any of these Acts come close to the density you find in most areas in 3. closest might be Festering woods b/c of those two vaults/chambers, whatever it's called.

kinda sucks at this point tho, everyone who has farmed this route is high paragon level if not 100 already so this only punishes those who aren't high level yet

Well, when they release the legendary update and iLevel 63 Leoric's drop with the increased XP% it punished players who already spent all that time leveling when it is faster right?

dunno, everyone has a hellfire ring and a ruby in the helm, but can you sacrifice that much dps to run a hellfire and leorics?

Leoric's gives you 20-30% XP bonus I think. So long as your DPS doesn't go down by more than that, you should be ahead with the Leoric's

I def. can't. Higher mp's give you bonus to mf and exp.. and I have to use zuni's ring for the mana regen set bonus on my wd.

But we don't know what the new Leoric's are gonna roll. Yes, you lose the set bonus, but for a lot of players, they can give up a ring slot.

just to note, the scorpion xp nerf isn't coming until 1.08 is actually released. Given that it still has to go through the PTR process, you're looking at 3-4 weeks if not more still.

the %bonus is additive to the MP bonus, not multiplicative. you're better off just using DPS rings and killing faster in a grouped MP10 game.

Cool. Spike traps + marked for death with grim reaper + bola shot = tons of fast AoE damage for scorpion farming

I found something like 5-6 legendaries last night, including some dex ice climbers. Some guys I occasionally run with figured this out:

Start in act I, at the festering woods episode where you have to get the two orbs. Run to the crypt of the ancients, clear it, kill the elite, then tp back to town to create the waypoint / portal. Exit the game, re-start, and you'll have a TP point to the crypt of the ancients. Clear, repeat.

We did it on MP10 about 10-12 times. He was a 400k dps DH using grenades for area damage, I have a 210k dps DH using bola, spike traps, and marked for death with grim reaper for area damage, and we had a monk at 170k dps who used the vortex skill (whatever it is called).

We'd run in, find the elite, I'd cast marked for death on him, we'd surround him, drop some protection turrets and go to town. The guys who spawn all those skeletons were nice for huge amounts of kills too. Got tons of xp and oh so many legendaries.

warrior's rest is faster. the elite is always at the same place and there is nothing in between. and there is usually a shrine there too, which is nice.

True. Two of my legendaries came off the skeletons though, and there are more of them in the crypt. The crypt also has a shrine occasionally, but it doesn't seem to appear nearly as often as the one in warrior's rest.

Might try it with warrior's when I get a chance.

Festering woods is a pretty common act I farming spot, I usually hit both warriors rest and crypt of the ancients in each run, I just tp back to town and re-take the portal after I finish one.

This is my usual Act 1 run (from http://diablo3blog.blogspot.com/2012/05/diablo-3-farming-routes-act-1-and-act-2.html)

  • Step 1) Go to the festering woods. There are 2 guaranteed small dungeons with a champion pack in each. You should find at least 1 champion in the area. Town portal out and way point back inbetween.
  • Step 2) With 2-3 (probably 3) stacks, go to the cemetary. There are 3 small dungeons each with 1-2 champions. Since they might only have one, leave (town portal -> waypoint) as soon as you kill the first). This gets you to 5 stacks. Clear all the tombs even if you get 5 early.
  • Step 3) WP to leoric's manner. Run through the manner (0-1 packs) and outside. The courtyard has a guaranteed pack.
  • Step 4) Butcher run as normal. You'll get several packs, maybe a goblin or two and the warden and butcher drop well enough to be worth killing.
  • Step 5) WP back to the northern highlands and clear the watch tower.
  • Step 6) Optional - go to each other WP and check for very close / obvious champion packs.
The only exception is step 5, watch tower spawns less (and now in southern) so I usually do the cave of the moonclan in southern highlands while I'm there.

This route in act 1 and VOTA + black canyon in act 2 are great for elite hunting. Both do not match the exp farming that can be done in act 3 though, but Elite farming is fun to.

But just doing the single crypt with a tp directly there from town using the saved waypoint is much faster for elites. I've done the same run you just described and it wasn't anywhere near as efficient as the one I did last night.

I used to do VotA as my elite farming, and had the tp spot saved, but even that isn't nearly as good.

edit: to be clear, you don't take the standard transporter pad to festering woods and then wander around looking for the crypt. You tp straight into the crypt with each new game. Time from starting the game to fighting the elite in the crypt is less than 10 seconds each time, guaranteed.

After killing the elite, you tp back to town (5 seconds), quit the game (5 seconds), re-load the game (10 seconds), tp back to the crypt and start fighting the elite (10 seconds). So, 30 seconds between finishing one elite pack and starting the next, guaranteed, with a ton of white mobs around for area damage.

when playing with a good group, MP10 act1 warrior's rest runs will give you about as much xp as MP6 act3 runs. at least, that's how it works out with my group of a CM wiz, HOTA barb, and monk.
