Got my crusader to L70 over the weekend by doing RiFs. I found a flail that removes the wrath cost of Blessed Shield, so now I can just spam BS haha. It's kinda fun.

Still need a lot of pieces to be properly geared, but it'll come in time.

What's RiFs?

Drop rates are still high, but drops have been really crappy lately it seems. Also, since the popularity of Rift it foward, Kadala seems to be even more stingy than ever. Durring the initial buff I was able to get my Jade and Marauder sets with in a week, tops. I can't buy upgrades for my Barb, Crusader, and Wiz right now.

I think they reverted Kadala's initial buff. I have been having the same problem. Even doing RiFs, I have seen a sharp drop in legendaries from Kadala. Going for my T&T, with 500 shards, I would see around like 3-4 legendaries (mostly St. Andrew's garbage). Now, I am lucky if I get a single one.

What's RiFs?

Rift it Forward. It is a community where runners advertise their rifts after the guardian spawns. People join and someone who joined (lowest paragon, last in the game, whatever the runner dictates) opens a new rift after they kill the guardian and everyone leaves. The runners get free rift opens and everyone else gets potentially free (about 1/3 of the time) shards and chances at loot.

Rift it Forward.

Basically someone does a Rift solo (any diff. T1-T6). He spawns the rift guardian and brings it down to a low % of health. He then ports to town and invites 3 people to his party and together they finish the rift and everyone gets bloodshards/xp/gold. They close the rift and the person who soloed it chooses 1 of the 3 people to open the next rift for him to solo while the other 3 ppl leave party. Rinse/repeat.

Question about the Adventure mode, can you start a fresh level 1 character and only play adventure mode? Is that viable loot wise?

After you've unlocked it (beaten Act 5) it is available for every character, including new ones. It is a viable way to level up, and faster than the story mode IMO. The only thing is once you hit 70, make sure you do Malthael for the free legendary.

You can only play adventure mode if you have defeated Malthael (any difficulty, any character). Once you have, then you can go into adventure mode at any time. Personally I found it best to go through the game once with the new char, as you get a lot of XP from the game quests. Then I move straight to Adventure mode only, and try to stick to difficulties that are a bit harder than I could typically do. Just have to be with guys that don't get annoyed at you not fully pulling your own weight.

This.

Also, this is pretty much how I leveled my Crusader in an hour or two.
Just joined every T6 rift and let them do the work while snagging obscene amounts of XP

Isn't that only once per account? Or is it once per char? Could have sworn it was once per account.

It is once per story mode clear. So, every time you reset (or on your first clear), Malthael is guaranteed to drop a legendary.

Do you have to work your way up through story mode to Malthael or can you just join a game when someone is about to kill him to get the legendary drops?

Since my last post, I found a couple armor upgrades for my HC crusader and enough gold to make one flawless imperial ruby, so now she's up to T1!

460K damage, 6.5M toughness. It makes a huge difference in how quickly gold is acquired, as well as the early paragon levels. Being able to upgrade my gems faster will offset not getting a decent weapon for a while.

You can join someone else's game, however, you can't reset your quests and do it again unless you've completed every quest IIRC. So, if you never plan on doing that, leveling up exclusively in Adventure mode and then entering a game to kill Malthael for your legendary at 70 will only work once.

Well...I started the day with my Crusader level 10 and he's now level 25...
I'm on T1...and those +STR gems are doing their wonders...I murder everything on my path with 2H+Shield...class is awesome.

I am at 3,023 gambles since my last Quetzacoatl. This is ridiculous.

Took a break from the wizard and switched to a pet witch doctor. I really like the class and the laid back play style with pets. I gambled a Quetzacoatl yesterday and this morning got a Mask of Jeram at the end of the session. My damage output with Fetish Army and WP garg is going to be insane now. Barely 30 hours of play time and I've already surpassed the wizard that I've been playing since RoS launch. It's almost not right.

Another noob question: What is adventure mode and what are these T1-T6 difficulty settings everyone talks about? I'm guessing they are related somehow?

Have continued playing my monk, made it up to level 36 last night after a week away on vacation. I have now realized, it's completely pointless to purchase EQ while leveling, the stuff you find within an hour or so completely surpasses anything you buy at even a level or two lower. Is there any point to crafting weapons/armor at these levels? It mostly looks to be significantly lower level than what I find. Just save the materials for later? Or should I be selling gear for gold instead of salvaging for mats?

You should just do RiFs until you hit level 70. Then go back and finish your campaign mode in a few hours by steamrolling through everything on normal.

Exactly what I mean. Before, I would usually get 3-4 junk legs from Kadal per 500 shards, now, it's like 1 per 2000 shards. I stopped with RIFS. It was awesome getting quick shards, but not worth it anymore.

T1-T6 = torment difficulty 1-6. It's just a difficulty level (normal, hard, expert, master, Torment 1-6).

Adventure mode is just a new game type that opens up once you beat the campaign once on any difficulty level.

Man this game has sunk it's teeth in deep. I haven't played anything else this week and already hit 32 with my monk last night. I am hoping to hit 70 within a couple weeks and then start running the tough stuff while also leveling a second character, just not sure which one I want to do yet.

Trying to find a pattern to RNG, or expecting one short term pattern to always hold true, is against its very nature. If you need specific item upgrades you can't beat Kadala. I dumped all my shards into helms on my WD for days on end and got one of about everything (and multiples of junk) including what I really wanted: a Mask of Jeram. In all the rifts I did in that same time only a couple class specific helms dropped. I have an ok Quetz and Carnevil helm stored away thanks to Kadala. It's still random, but limiting the legendary pool to only helms was by far the most efficient way to get what I wanted.

Think about it: How many mobs do you have to kill to get 100 specific item drops? Now, how about the chance that among all items that dropped only those specific items you're looking for will be legendary? Contrastingly, 500 shards spent on helms gets you 100 'drops' in the span of a couple minutes. You can't beat that when you need certain items.

His argument wasn't that Kadala wasn't useful, just that the rate at which legendaries dropped has decreased. It has, and by a good amount. I have made around 100 million gold selling items from Kadala, just to give you an idea of how many shards I have spent. And, since the anniversary buff was been removed (not saying that it had anything to do with Kadala, just that the patch that removed it was there I noticed this change), the amount of legendaries I have gotten from Kadala has gone down multiple orders of magnitude.
