I have to admit I'm too lazy about these things to 'try the demo'.

I tend to buy games a lot more than play them.

But having said that, the things I'm trying to zero in on are:

For single player, is the gamepad really as good as or better than the keyboard and mouse I'm used to?

I'm usually a fan of K/M for games that are about that - like RTS or Diablo, and disappointed trying to switch. I prefer controller for some games like racing games.

And how does the game compare overall on each, probably most of all graphics quality, but also the 'feel' of the game or whatever differences there are.

The console version has better droprates. For people that play solo:

Console >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> PC

What...was...this? Lol.

I really can't see how you're still deliberating over this. If you're more comfortable with keyboard/mouse, will save yourself $10 on buying only the expansion, and want better graphics, the answer is obvious to me: go with PC.

Done.

Could you guys critique my DH?

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Islandfury-1913/hero/29473286

I feel like I'm a bit weak in T6. Although, the whole stand behind sentries and win isn't really my kind of play.

Off the top of my head, your skills are all screwed up. M6 doesn't use just any spender, it uses the archery spenders. You need those equipped so your sentries can use them. You'll also finally be taking advantage of Cull the Weak. You are not right now.

You're super squishy right now. Replacing at least the pants emeralds with diamonds will help that.

For legendary gems, I believe the consensus is that either Zei's or Bane of Powerful are your third gem. One of those needs to be swapped out for Bane of the Trapped. Equip some cold spenders that slow and it will always be triggered. It also stacks nicely with Cull the Weak. Swap the gem in your helm, XP comes and the bonus you're getting at this point is negligible. Probably an amethyst until you can get your HP up a bit more elsewhere, then perhaps a diamond. Roll the +life in your rucksack to +cold damage.

I can't remember if your bracers can roll +cold. if so, roll the +movement speed into that.

You don't need +movement on any of your gear. Ferrets give you +10%, I think. Then you hit the cap (can't have more than 25%) with paragon points.

My profile, not the greatest, I'm jealous of your witching hour and cameo:

Popular builds:
http://diablo.somepage.com/popular/demon-hunter#builds

At the same time, if the playstyle of M6 isn't suiting you, I don't know that optimizing it will make it any more fun. The next patch will make it more active, though. That might suit you better.

EDIT: I'm SUPER jealous of your SMK.

Because reading reviews, I've seen some saying 'console is better than PC', and none saying 'PC is better than console'.

I've played both and I can say that the PC experience is the better choice. Mouse/Keyboard is far better than the controller. Also, hacking is not really an issue on the PC while I've heard awful things about console hacks.

It's your choice, but the reviews I've read and my own experience side with PC on this one

What...was...this? Lol.

The droprates for the PC are horrendous.

I thought the droprates were better on the console version due to very limited playtime with other people. If this has changed and the droprates are equally horrendous, go with the PC.

Now you're doubling back. Is it good for inventory management, or not?

I've head that inventory management and playing ranged isn't great. I've heard melee is superb. That's still about half of the game where it's not great. I'll probably download the demo and give it a try, but I can't imagine playing M6 being any kind of fun with a controller.

Side note, I've heard couch co-op is stupidly fun. If I came off as sounding like I was putting down the console version, I'm not. However, some of the arguments used don't apply anymore, like loot.

I'm not trying to say that controllers are evil for this game, but your argument was funny because it was self-defeating.

Loot 2.0 is the same on console and PC, Blizzard has said as much. Trading is what makes it seem better on consoles. Better trading is something I want sorely on PC. Keep it in clan, restrict to people on your friends list, just figure out a way to open it up some more, not this in-party, 4 hour BS.

It isn't bad for inventory management. The kb / mouse combo for inventory management is better.

Thanks. I just didn't want to buy both PC and console.

As basically a pure PC player, I have enjoyed the console version immensely. I decided to buy the Ultimate Evil Edition (RoS included, 360 version) to play couch co-op games, which is absolutely fun. It really is! I did not experience the vanilla version, but from what I read the UI was perfected in the EE, and there's zero bad thing I could find about the controls. In fact, I understand how people say that this game makes so much sense with a controller. The only sucky thing is inventory and character management, that because we play co-op, everyone has to take turn, while everybody else could only watch (or take bathroom break).

Having said that, if you mostly play single player, and especially if your console is not NextGen, I'd go for the PC version. You won't need the couch co-op feature, and you're guaranteed to get system upgrades in the future (360 and PS3 are already behind with the updates, and this is it, they will never get any more).

Finally got an SoJ. It's fire, which I do benefit from, but cold would have been better.

Couldn't change it as it came with vit that I'm trying to turn into a socket. Now that I have all my jewelry socketed, I'm not giving that up.

Damn, been looking for a fire SOJ forever. Found several SOJ but never with fire. It might come in handy with the new patch, especially if you have a cindercoat.

No Cindercoat for me.

I've stopped gambling on my DH for now, trying to build up a WD.

Rolling a socket into this SoJ is proving annoying. Blew through all of my souls, and nothing yet.

wow, for your level i was expecting more toughness. But it is hard to strike a balance between toughness and damage.

Those stats aren't always what's reflected as "base" damange and toughness in the game. IIRC, toughness in game, unbuffed, is about 14 mil.

I focus on Epiphany and cooldown reduction for the toughness boost. Epiphany doubles toughness. My cooldown reduction gets up to about 50% buffed, which means I can use Epiphany and Serenity much more often.

I survive well @ T6 with the base 8k life per hit, drive up attack speed as much as possible, and use the flying dragon to double attack speed as well. If I expand details while fighting, my attacks per second can be buffed to 4.50. Buffed damage gets into the 3-4 million range.

G Rift's, done up to 37 with the right crew. I die often depending on the packs we get. I've done 36's where I didn't die almost the entire time. Depends so much on monster density and monster skills.

I quit playing in January 2013 because I hated the auction house so much and never got good drops in game. I picked it back up again at the end of September, played the shit out of my main monk and went with attack speed/damage build. I wish I had more resistances....maybe in time.

Why doesn't the base stats reflect everything. I noticed my legendary gems are not reflected in those stats as well. It makes me guess what the better gear to use is.

That is awesome you can survive up to level 36. I did not realize Ephiphany can double toughness, i thought i was to give you spirit. Maybe i will have that. Either way i love having all 4 mantras from Inna's set bonus.

Yup, Inna's set bonus free's up a skill slot. Since all 4 matra's are active at a time, it gives my teammates great boost, and I can add another skill to slay faster.

Legendary gem's just polish the build off very nicely. Do GRifts to get them over 25 and it's very helpful.

edit: I hope the build helps you

It does, thanks! I am going to switch to epiphany tonight to help my toughness.

I downloaded and tried the demo on Xbox 360.

I greatly prefer the PC version. Blizzard did an admirable job porting the game to consoles, though. Solid 60 fps (might have to tweak my PC settings a little), and the controller doesn't suck hard when you're fighting. I haven't tried a ranged character yet, but the barb did alright.

To say it's (the controller) better is an interesting statement. Inventory management is absolutely a chore. I fully backed out on more than one occasion when I didn't want to, and it just takes longer in general. Extra button pushes to enter specific categories, and another button press to actually see affixes. Overall, it's a chore. I think they did the best they could with it as the PC method wouldn't have worked as well. Elements would be too small.

I haven't had a chance to try ranged combat, but my concern is how something like M6 would play. I wouldn't be able to try that out on the demo. Combat was still a bit clunky, though. A lot of missed swings, and let's all consider that the evade is there for a reason.

Skill management appears similar to PC. I'd have to put more time into the demo to really give it a try, though.

Auto-loot of lootables objects (bodies on the ground, mostly. Racks still require interaction) is nice, and again exists due to how imprecise the controller is. I also liked the quick compare that pops up when you pick an item up. Lets me know if I should bother going into my inventory or not right away. It's a thing that only matters on your way to 70, but for that it's nice.

I can see couch co-op being fun, but it wouldn't be better for me. So, not knocking it, it just wouldn't be a better fit for me over b.net.

As for reviews, they were comparing console versions with smart loot against vanilla and the AH. They are out of date. If one is too lazy to try the demos, they simply aren't allowed to complain if they realize they bought the wrong version.
