With Diablo games the goal isn't to beat the game, but rather to beat the game on all difficulties while grinding your character for loot.

Oh I know, I have put tons of time into Diablo II.

And I think your reason is just more ammo to want the game to be long and variable enough to increase replayability and diminish the bored/groundout feeling.

Yeah, I heard that the beta is ~1/3 of Act 1. Blood Raven is probably less than 1/3 through Act 1 of Diablo II, but the comparison is likely fair, nonetheless.

So I got beta invite, downloaded game installed it.

Took about a hour to beat the beta game. Uninstalled it and made mental note not to buy it.

It was BAD. Mind numbing bad. 2012 and its the exact same as every other game like it. Each dungeon repeats itself..i mean literally place for place each room is a copy or one before it.

Graphics not very good to me, seems everything is darkened so much everything blends it. Even spells effects are not very bright.

Just seems like a huge let down.

Hmmm rooms are dark and blend together? Maybe you should adjust your monitor. The detail was fantastic when I played through it. I am using an IPS that I spent a bit of time tuning though.

As for the gameplay, there is only so much you can do with that style of play. I guess isometric dungeon crawlers just aren't for you.

This just seems to be a repeat of the last room over and over. No depth with it. The spells are lackluster. I enjoyed diablo 1 when it was released long ago, it was pretty awesome for its time.

This game is not a improvement over that..and that is bad considering what has come out since D1.

Yeah I got one last night. Thought it was a fake, but logged into my bnet account just to be sure. I installed it before I went to bed and didn't play. IIRC it was under a 2gig download.

The spells are lackluster.

The problem here is that you aren't getting the full set of tools to make the spells more interesting. Runes can greatly change the way a spell works and essentially adjust your character to be played in entirely different ways. For example, when I was monkeying around with their talent calculator, I built a ranged Monk, a tanking Monk, etc. I don't know how well said things would work in the game, but it was really easy to see how the runes can greatly change the way you play your character along with how a full set of abilities can provide enough choice to change how you play as well.

you must have some shitty connection. Just leave your system be.

I know when I was browser websites and such, speeds would automatically drop to about 200-250kb but as soon as I left it alone, it jumped to 1.25-1.5 mb/s

For the record, and for what it's worth: I totally agree with you. I had an identical reaction. I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to 'test.' The difficulty is so low I'm pretty sure I could tape the left mouse button down and win the beta.

Titan Quest was essentially Diablo II ++. It was graphically much slicker and had a broader array of classes. Torchlight was Titan Quest ++. It streamlined gameplay, reemphasized loot and (technically at least) had better graphics yet again. Diablo II came out 12 years ago. If Diablo III ends up being Torchlight ++, that would be a massive let down. Remember that RPGs like Morrowind (and Oblivion and Skyrim), The Witcher, Demon's and Dark Souls, etc didn't even exist when Diablo II came out. You cannot pretend that the bar for RPG depth, graphics and immersion hasn't been raised in the past 12 years.

From what I saw in the beta, this is a bit like Modern Warfare III vs Modern Warfare II, if we had to wait over a decade for MW3 instead of a year.

Can't wait for Grim Dawn. Same developers as Titan Quest and looking to be better looking than their first effort.

I found that the program doesn't always update the display properly. Try closing it and restarting it again and it'll restart... it'll show 9% for a bit but should catch up after some time. Mine was stuck at 23% overnight, then when I restarted it this morning it still read 23%. I ate breakfast and when I checked the PC before I left it was finished.

I don't think the beta can reflect how good or bad the actual game will be. Diablo was always about loot, and the loot options are very limited right now.

played for about a hour last night.

I wont comment on the character development or any of that as i was level 3 and havent gotten into all you can do.

However the lack of camera controls jumped out at me instantly. In sacred 2 you had full camera control and it was great. The textures do seem lower res to me and not much ability to tweak. The animation of the magic user also seemed a bit odd to me. I feel sacred 2 had better graphics?

Again I wont judge it off what I did so far but those are my first impressions.

Not impressed with the character selection - it would have been nice if blizzard brought back some of the older characters.

Not impressed with the quest - having to backtrack is lame, really lame

Auto-healing is lame on a low level character

I doubt I will be buying DIII on release day.
