Can someone explain the different types of damage to me? From what I've seen there's seven types (arcane, cold, holy, physical, lightning, fire and poison). I've read that different damage types deal different effects on critical hits. For example, fire damage will deal damage over time on a critical hit whereas cold damage will freeze a target for 2 seconds on a critical.

Is that correct and if so is that all they do? What does holy and poison do?

Where is that "Blood and Gore"? Don't get me wrong, but it would actually enhance the game if the kills would be more...interesting. I haven't come along blood and gore yet. Blizzard is such a "political correct" company, sometimes i just want to throw up.

Where is that "Blood and Gore"? Don't get me wrong, but it would actually enhance the game if the kills would be more...interesting. I haven't come along blood and gore yet. Blizzard is such a "political correct" company, sometimes i just want to throw up.

How much have you played? See it everywhere when you start killing mobs.

Agree mostly with your review and I just had some additional remarks to make on some of your cons.

Hirelings: I played a wizard through normal and moved on to NM at level 31. I wanted to see how I would do solo in NM, so I figured the Templar would be a great choice as a meat shield. Boy did it suck realizing how nearly useless he is in that regard. So far I've managed just fine as a wizard solo, but it is not fun having to run away all the time because you'll get smashed in 2-3 hits and there's only so much dps and crowd control you can dish out. A quick champion or elite mob pack is especially deadly.

Loot variety: yeah, the item mods were unfortunately (along with the skill system) one of the last systems of the game to be finalized. And it shows. Even if you were to find a legendary, it would have the same type of stats you get on non legendary items. However, in the context of the rest of the game, such as the skill system they have, it may not have really mattered if item mods were more interesting. We'll just have to see how much replayability we get towards end game.

Town portal: I'm not sure what you mean by "it closes as soon as you use it". When you go to town via the tp, there's a portal open in town waiting for you to walk back through to return to the casting spot. Perhaps you meant "you immediately are forced back to town upon casting". But yeah, the reason for that and for the cast time is to eliminate cheesy escape tactics that the D2 tp allowed.

Quests: well, you don't lose a lot of progress, because you do the same when returning to NM/etc...choose the last quest you were on. But yes, it also annoys me how integrated the story quests are to the game. That has its own pros and cons, but the lack of freedom bothers me.

Crafting: you do have to put effort into making those items though. You either go back to town and sell your blues for gold that can be used for lots of stuff, or break them into mats with some % chance at getting mats for rare/etc crafts. Blizz was quoted that it's supposed to be an inefficient way to turn unwanted drops into another chance at something useful, which it is. It's kind of a gambling replacement. Though the ability to guarantee a rare might be a little much, idk.

Diablo 3 feels closer to Titan Quest than Diablo 2 in its gameplay, not that it is a bad thing, but it's not a huge jump in terms of gameplay or graphics over a 6 years old game.

Yeah lol I was thinking the same thing. But certain skills like say "disintegrate" cause everything to die in the same bland way. So maybe he just uses the same skills all the time. Experiment a little and you'll see some more interesting animations.

I have to say, I hope they can rework and fix some of the stuff in this game because right now its really the definition of hack&slash. I just got to nightmare today and I have to say, the monsters have literally double or triple the health of normal. The game is pretty difficult but only in the way of what you might call a "gear check".

I did normal pretty easily but a 4 person coop in nightmare is, well, a nightmare. And, while I realize its supposed to be more difficult(duh), its way more difficult than it should be for just being 1 difficulty level higher.

Theres a variety of things I think they failed at with this game. Its still fun but damn, some people have valid points about aspects they screwed up.

use Gold Auction House to handle being gear checked at least through Nightmare

How lovely. I spent a ton of money at the auction house and nothing is in my inventory and now the AH is offline. Hopefully it's just a temporary issue and not permanently lost.

Still blows my mind how bad the AH is setup. I have so many rares to sell, but only being able to have 10 things listed at once and not being able to cancel any auctions you have up.....grrrr

You know items go to a holding area in the AH and you have to transfer them to your stash, right?

But the AH is glitchy. At least twice tonight it told me an auction was already sold when I tried to buyout, then later the item showed up on my completed list. :hmm:

Diablo III feels like Diablo II lite IMO. Game's an epic fail. Only 4 people can play together... Companions not available unles you play solo... No runewords. Campaign is short. Huge server problems during first release days. Some characters feel very underpowered. NO PvP on release. Hefty $60 price tag. No offline single-player. Auction house paypal fees. You cant ninja other people's shit. Cant farm bosses.
Skill system is dull and lame. you cannot pick rooms where there's as much people as u like. Instead a room gets picked for you and it usually has 1 single n00b barb playing who's just trying to leech off you. WHY the f*ck cant I just PK him? Oh.. Wait, there's no PvP.... And once it's added, I still wont be able to PK him!

And have you seen the cow level?!

All they had to do was to take Diablo II, or even Diablo I up it's graphics and resolution to Diablo III level, and just leave everything EXACTLY THE SAME. They would be left with a much better game.
Essentially, if you want to be a useless griefer then this isn't the game for you. Sounds more like a good job on blizzards part.

Yea the limit has to go or be raised a lot. I have my stash filled with stuff waiting to be sold.

Question to all Wizards:

What happens if you put "Spectral Blades" on an Action Slot, eg #3 or #4 and press the key? For me this doesnt work. I am moving instead. (Bug has been reported to blizz, other spells dont show this behavior)

Question 2:

What happens if you move, and while you move you cast certain spells? Do you always stop walking? If i walk and re-cast an armor spell, it's fine - but for all other spells i dont necessarily always see the necessity why the toon stops moving..in fact i think its a major negative that one cannot cast while on the move.

The question here..what is design flaw/bug..and what is intended?

Sigh, left for vacation yesterday so no D3 for me for a week (good problem to have I guess), but hopefully I can knock out NM when i get back and start looking for co-op groups. So far the Barb is insanely fun. Leaping into a group, using the stomp/pull to bring them in close and then popping revenge or better yet Earthquake for rares/champs is a blast.

Can't remember my battletag but I'll post it when I get home.
