Except those games you mentioned requires actual skill unlike this which utilises cheap RNG gameplay mechanics to the max to screw players over because it can.
Why does that make a difference? So they're skill oriented instead of gear oriented, all it means is you spend time practicing instead of farming. They still require that same investment of time and preparation either way.
The only real RNG factor has is on enemy affixes, but there are also very few times when you're actually 'forced' to fight one (and to be fair, there are just as many 'bad' affixes/combos as there are 'good' affixes/combos for both ranged and melee; so I wouldn't necessarily equate random to cheap in this case). If you find something you can't or don't want to deal with, you can almost always just go to a different map or even just go around them (and if you can't deal with any of them, go back to the previous act).
Even on my Barb I still just skip some elites simply because I can recognize they're not worth the effort; might take too long to kill, might be too long of a run back if I die, might cause more deaths than I care to give up. But even in those worst case scenarios, all you do is change maps and find one of the dozens of other elites/champs in the act and keep going.
