did you drop win8 because of stability issues? I notice that my laptop on win8 will crash regularly while playing while my win7 desktop is rock solid. im not sure if its related to win8 and ffxiv or not though.

I didn't really drop it for Final Fantasy XIV reasons, but more or less because of a bunch of things adding up to too much annoyance. The only things that kept me using it were the task manager, file copy dialog and... most importantly, laziness.

I ran all the benchmarks on Windows 8 and I played the beta on it without any issues.

No issues other than reaaaally slow start.... Level 8 Gladiator already.

The game really picks up at 10-15. once you can freely travel the world really opens up and you can start picking different classes to mix and match, especially if you're into crafting.

the main story quest takes you all over the place though, it's kind of annoying/needless traveling at times.

GLD from my experience is just a slow class to level. You don't get much skills for awhile and dps is ho hum. But most classes for the first 15 levels are slow.

IMO, the game doesn't truly open up till you hit 30-35 when all mechanics/systems are introduced, you have a lot of your important skills, and you have your first job unlocked.

GLD is really slow for sure. My alchemist is actually higher level, and I just decided to blast through the quest lines yesterday... still slow for soloing quests though.

"Yoshida said that FF XIV was designed to support 5,000 simultaneous players in any given world at one time."

Well, I think now we know why worlds were locked down so darned easily.

Lmao

I think if you could get the physical copy from square, I'd go ahead and do that. The variables, of course, is how fast they'd ship it.

they are supposed to be doing another server upgrade soon. Perhaps they restart digital distribution soon afterwards. But, is anything know concretely right now?

based on posts on other forums, it takes them about a week to get it to you.

summer event's live, go get your swimsuits!

need 96 wet bombard ash total, and the fate in costa del sol gives you 30 for each gold. I got a handful before I even knew what they were for, but past experiences from ffxi told me that I should keep them... and boy I was right.

Anyone else have crazy FPS drop in cities? I have a 7950 and can run pretty much any game on max settings, but this game gets about 5-10 fps in cities and around 10-15 at some FATEs in really crowded zones.

i have a 6850 and I don't get fps drops all that much even in crowded areas. I always get some strange stutters when I'm on a chocobo though, but if I stop running everything around me is always smooth.

Then again I can't have the game on max on my card, so...

My 7950 hasn't had much trouble, but I also play at 1680 x 1050. I was getting extreme lag, like <1 FPS, rarely which usually led to a crash but I did a clean install of the 13.10 drivers and reset XIV settings to default and it seems to have taken care of it.

Hit 50 smith, now I just need 15 armorer/weaver and 37 cook and new jewelry and a bunch of materia and someday 50 cook/gsm/alch I'm loving it though.

I have most of my crafts at around 25-26, alchemy at 32. The crafting is addicting, and if I didn't have leve limits I would certainly plow through the crafts with all the hand-ins.

Any thoughts on how to handle BSM lvling? I've just unlocked steel stuff and I'm wondering how to go about leveling it. I got about 100 bomb ash that I can make into ingots, think that's enough to last me or should I be looking to stock up on more?

Also what items should I stock up on for future BSM/ARM lvling?

I did the same thing. In MMO's I don't sell stuff unless I have too. I had 125 of those wet ashes just from leveling

I find that when you have access to a new material, producing the material itself is quite good for XP and not overly expensive given their relatively simple materials; and you're bound to use them anyway and ingots are more liquid than gear is (especially since nq weapons are relatively common quest rewards). I ground out quite a bit of XP on Steel Ingots producing them en masse for myself and a friend.

Around that level I think there's a leve for BS in Limsa to make Steel Head Knives or something which is quite good. After that theres a Heavy Steel Mortars leve in Limsa, and then Mythril file leve imo are the best XP. You might find better leves in Coerthas or Mor Dhona though, I hadn't progressed that far at the time.

As BS you'll go from steel to mythril to cobalt to darksteel [50 green crafts only], go with what's most cost efficient. For instance, currently you can get mythril ingots for far less than the cost of 3 mythril ore + 4 (i think?) shards on my server, so I wouldnt grind mats in that scenario but take the cheap ingots and find a craft with simple mats. Steel is iron ore + bomb ash, mythril only requires mythril ore, cobalt requires cobalt ore + iron ore.

So cheap fire shards of course, and I like cheap HQ ore; I found mixing HQ mats with NQ mats was the best choice for HQing ingots even if it means you NQ every now and then; the fact that it lets your HQ mats last so much longer is typically worth it. Further, HQ ingots make for HQ leve turnins which is vital for getting the most out of them while they're still so limited.

Also I don't recall exactly but if you do the leves I did I believe you'll need some... mudstone whetstones, walnut lumber, and some kind of leather or whetstone for the mythril files.

I've got the mudstones, siltstones, walnut, toad leather and whatever else covered for the next 10~ levels or so, part of the benefit of having all the crafting classes past 25. I can pretty much make any mid range stuff like leather, lumber, cloths... etc.

Just wanted to know the route for BSM, since it's always a pain to find "that" repeatable leve that's good for resources and for exp gain. My main is actually not far enough to get to mor dhona or coerthas (just hit 32 and visiting costa del sol for the first time) so I don't know whether there will be useful leves there or not, but I'll definitely look up the steel mortars... need one for my alchemist anyway. The head knives are not the best things to make as it requires 3 cross-class pieces i think, but I'll see if the ingredients are easy enough to find. On my server yew lumbers are fairly expensive so I don't like anything that involves a lot of them.

From the sounds of it, I will probably need more bomb ash... I've found that 99 ingots go by quickly when you need some to make into sheets, some to make into rings, and 1 or 2 for each piece for daily GC turn ins, then other cross-class needs like steel goggles... I found out the hard way when I finally ran out of iron ingots yesterday and all the stacks on the AH are 100g @ 99 pcs. (split the fucking things up, kthxbye)

I have a miner at lvl 26 that needs to catch up, the goal is to mine all my mats so I can be fairly independent of the market values on things that have a massive cost eventually, like rare ores and raw gems(??). So far this is the most mind numbing part of the game... punching mountains until I get a level.

Yeah, there's way more miners on my server than botanists, some of those mid level logs can be a bit expensive simply because they're not getting harvested much. I was fortunate enough to be able to get lots of Yew and Elm for cheap as I was crafting them about the same time the 'masses' were harvesting them.

I did some botany during phase 2, it was rough. Even worse back then even because shards weren't given out nearly as often from quests so you basically had to harvest them if you were trying to craft and their XP return is awful. I think the abilities and GP may need re-thought. As it is, they're kind of a 'long cooldown' due to low GP regen and their potency. Maybe they need granularized a bit more to make them usable more often but a bit less effective. Also they could add condition analogue to harvesting, like maybe you find a 'forest nymph' in the node that gives you a speed boost to the next node or 'heals' the current node or unlocks hard to find items.

I've heard fishing is substantially more amusing than harvesting though, not yet done any.

Yeah, I've bought 3 stacks of walnut logs in preparation. Unlike ores, logs aren't used nearly as much, so I've gotten those cheap. Will probably buy the next level up too, and maybe another stack of walnut just in case (99 logs = 33 lumber, which is about what I use for 5-6 levels).

They need to make gathering a bit more fun and interactive like crafting is, period. Right now I run up to a node, hit numpad0 until the node's done, and maybe pop one single ability every other node because it costs 150 GP which regenerate at a molasses pace. Adding some cross-class skills wouldn't hurt, and making it so you don't have to press numpad0 for 30 minutes to level up would help. Like some more interesting mechanics or maybe "goals", like retrieve some rare mineral or whatever from certain nodes as part of the gathering log... I don't believe you get rewarded for discovering new minerals right now.

On a side note, I have 1400 fire shards from god knows where that I can use for BSM, so I'm set for a little while.

At level 50 using the Duty Finder on the harder content, you truly get to meet the right cocks that are in the game. Guys that have maxed out dark gear and ran a place 100 times and expect everyone to be just like them even when people say it is their first time doing the place. Then proceed to call the new people shit and tell them to leave so that the assholes don't get the 15min debuff for leaving the duty lol.

Seen this a few times now and it is just sad and all the more reason finding groups via chat for high end stuff is so much better. At least after the first month it should improve a lot because those assholes are generally the first ones to quit because there is "no end game content" yet they went through it all for the last 3-4 weeks rushing it and playing 70+ hours a week. Those people are always the first to quit and move on to the next new thing.

I'm JUST NOW getting my Chocobo (stupid account issues) and have spent a lot of time getting botany to lvl 15. I'm having a blast just taking my time.
