So, I finally got around to creating a character last night (around 2AM CST), and it was nice to see servers fairly empty. I think only four were locked down because of too many players, but that might have been because of the time of day.
After playing for a tiny bit, my biggest question? How the heck do you filter all the gold spam!? I'm sitting in Ul'dah, and it's AWFUL. I mean... it's not even worthwhile to attempt to chat in General, because no one will ever see your message. I tried typing something like /ignore [player name], but that just gave me an invalid command error.
As for my character, I'm Darro Domini on Goblin.
I'm on marlboro, I think everyone here posting is scattered all over the place btw. I had 2 legacy characters, on one of the legacy servers. Both were only level 20 though, I decided to abaondon them and start fresh.
As for the gold span, it's quite bad recently. And, some of them spam so fast it just spins by. And, all the gold sellers use those hard names to type out, or use special characters, and it gets even harder. I have found a way to get them all on my ignore list, but even this way is a pain in the ass.
Basically, you can bold the name by dragging the mouse across it with the left button held, and use control c and control v to copy and paste to your blacklist. Of course, since it's scrolling by so fast, even doing that is like playing some mini game from hell.
I have found though, If I open my blacklist, and use my mouse to drag the chat screen up (in this order), the text will actually stay in place (instead of scrolling to the bottom every time a new shout takes place). Then, you get the name bolded, copy it, and then past it to the black list.
Now, note, the bold will cancel itself out alot doing this. I think it happens when a new shout happens (which means, all the time). So, I usually have my left hand hovering the control c keys, and my right hand never lets go of the left button. As soon as I get the whole name bolded, without letting go of the mouse button, control c it quick. Sometimes it can take a few times to get it right.
Note, if you paste the name in the blacklist, and it doesn't give you a message "do you want to blacklist this character", it means it didn't recognize the name. Most likely cause there was an extra blank space after the name (I do that alot).
See? I told you it was a pain in the ass
But, i do get to sit in the city without all the crap spamming fast, so I find it worth it.
edit - it wouldnt get rid of the gold spammers, but adding them to the blackist would be much easier if the chat stayed in place when you scrolled up it, and then "add to blacklist" appeared to the menu when you clicked the name. I hope, at the very least, they do this.
