My Gravis Eliminator gamepad keeps dying in games. I dont know what to do. Do i need to get any files for the USB to work correctly on this motherboard? Its a usb gamepad. I installed the usb 2.0 and patch from the cd.

Any suggestions?

Overall I like my 8INXP. I am still having a minor problem with sound though. Actually more of a distraction than anything now. I had first setup 2 drives on the Promise controller, CD-RW and DVD+RW on the main controller. The sound was choppy to the point it was unusable at first. Searching with google, I found out a problem with the system drive being on the promise controller, and that a driver update was supposed to fix it. I downloaded the driver and installed, and the machine wouldn't boot anymore. I had to go back to the previous driver to get it back up. So instead I moved the hard drives to the main controller, and the CD/DVD drives to the promise. Re-ran Sandra and it basically made no difference in the scores, so I could live with it.

Now if I'm playing music/sound it's fine. But if I'm not, and say just surfing, when I click the mouse the surround sound receiver it's hooked to (I'm using S/PDIF out only), shows that it's dropping the PCM sound for part of a second. While the sound works fine, it's distracting to see the flash of the VFD change out of the corner of my eye. The mouse is a MS Intellimouse Optical USB/PS2 and I've tried it in both connections with no change. Any ideas? Other than this I love this board. Also seems to do it occassionally with the keyboard.

Setup - 8INXP, P4 2.53 not o/c'ed, 1GB (2x 512MB) matched Crucial (actual not oem) PC2100, PNY GeForce4 ti4200 128MB/8X, Lucent winmodem (so I can dial into work when VPN is down), Pinnacle PCTV Pro, 80GB Maxtor 8mb cache system drive, 120GB Maxtor 2mb cache data drive, HP 12x CD-RW, HP 300i DVD+RW drive, Mitsubishi Precise Point 21" monitor, Windows XP Pro.

Any ideas where to look next?

Maybe someone can help me here... I got the 8INXP about 3 weeks ago, and I am unable to run my Maxtor 80gig 133 8mb on the Promise RAID. I just have the one hard drive. Is it possible to just boot off it, so I can have the 133 speeds and not 100? (Or do I have to have two hard drives in RAID Config to get it to work) How do I set it up? Thanks!!

If you cant tell, I am new to the forums.

Update!!
I got it working! I just need to reinstall the drivers from the gigabyte web site, and it works now... the problem I had is that I would reboot everytime I tried to start windows... I had it set to ATA, but didnt want to work.. I am able to overclock it now also... before I would Only get to 140FSB and the system would crash, but Now I got it at 160FSB!!! A Huge Improvement for me!!! Its been running Prime for 4 hours now, and no problems.. I Will let it run for 24hrs to make sure everything is good.

"you have to set the raid option in bios to ATA, you cannot use raid with only one hardrive!!!"

Yes you can run RAID with one hard drive, but to increase performance, double your drives & run Sandra & watch the #s rise

Anyone else disappointed that there are only 2 (opposed to 3) 3-pin connectors on the motherboard?

Did you follow the order as posted earlier in this thread? Seemed like it was important when I read it so that's what I did and it worked. Other than that what does the blue screen say? Saying I got a blue screen, is like saying my car doesn't work. There's just not enough info there to know what's wrong. Let us know...

Is there a proper order for installing the operating system, service packs and drivers on the 8INXP?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the routine that Intel strongly suggests for Intel-based motherboards:

Fresh Operating System Installation

Latest Service Pack or Patch

Intel® Chipset Software Installation Utility (INF Utility)

All other device drivers

Intel® Application Accelerator if needed

Microsoft* DirectX* 8.0 or higher

Has anybody forced 8X agp in the BIOS? I'm using F3 bios and it only shows 4X and Auto.

hmmmm... good question. im running the f4 bios and i have it set to auto ( it was the same setting in the f3 bios ), thinking that the card will dictate what speed the bios runs the agp slot if you select auto... would make sense, i think ... lemme check the manual

** WAIT **... just looked in the manual and found nothing about the agp settings, then i remembered the 2 "manual correction" pages that were slipped in the 8inxp manual... there was one page containing the settings for the flexible agp 8x... and there it is, a choice to force 8x agp... i aint in my bios and it wasnt in the f3 either... yet when i run sandra, it says im running @ 8x... so back to the prior statement... auto is 8x (?)

I just put together a new system based on the GA-8INXP motherboard a little over a week ago. After much research, this was my first attempt at a home built computer. Everything worked great; board was easy to install & setup and have had no problems with the DPVRM, AGP 8X, etc (running bios F4). This computer is WAY faster than any pre-built systems I have had in the past.

There are two minor issues that I have had. I would like comments if anyone else has had these issues or knows how to solve them:

  1. I have had an occurance twice where the onboard audio quit working in the middle of a game. I had to reboot to get it back.

    One annoyance is that while my computer is shutdown (not in standby or hibernate), it automatically boots up whenever I get a phone call. I have a PCI modem installed and have a single phone line for both modem and normal (voice) phone use. I do have the bios setting for "ModemRingOn/WakeOnLAN" set to "Disabled" - but it still boots up on a modem ring anyway.

______
MB = Gigabyte 8INXP
CPU = P4 2.4mHz (Plan to upgrade to 3.06 whenever prices drop)
Mem = 2 * Corsair XMS 512Mb, 333Mhz
AGP = MSI ti4200, 8X, 128Mb
IDE1 = WesternDigital 80gb ATA100 HD
IDE2 = DVD/CD ROM (Plan to add a DVD/CD burner as a slave)
IDE3 = Maxtor 80gb ATA133 HD (Plan to add a second Maxtor and set to RAID striping mode-for Video editing)
PCI = Firewire & Modem

OK, I found the answer to the issue with the modem automatically booting up the computer. Setting the "PME Event Wakeup" BIOS setting to "Disabled" seemed to take care of it. The "ModemRingON" setting doesn't seem to matter if it's enabled or disabled.

To the App Accelerator Problem Guy

I assume that when you installed the IAA and rebooted you got blue error screen.

I had this problem also after I reinstalled Win XP, I'm not sure what caused it (Probably corrupted data on drive that remains after a winxp format) but by doing a zero fill erase on my hdd i was able to fix it. Reinstalled everything and works fine now.

Recently, I read an article on THG from 4/29/03 reporting that the ASUS P4G8X MB is capable of supporting the newest Intel P4 3.0GHz CPU with an 800MHz FSB. The author seems to imply that this holds true for all E7205 based MBs, but he only reports data for the ASUS MB, making me question if he had actually tried any other brands.

I am in the process of building a new computer and I would like to have the most flexibility for upgrading as possible. Can anyone with experience tell me if they have had success using an 800MHz FSB CPU with the Gigabyte GA-8INXP MB?

It's looking doubtful, i've been watching out for a BIOS update to accomodate the new CPUs and have yet to see one.

Caboob,

Thanks for the reply. I'm not expecting that the 800MHz FSB will ever be supported OFFICIALLY by the BIOS for this MB, since it is not officially supported by the BIOS for the ASUS P4G8X. However, THG's testing shows that the ASUS MB is able to identify and operate normally with the Intel P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB CPU.

Quoting THG:
"Ultimately, we have this to say to all Granite Bay owners: it's not necessary for you to go out and buy a new board, since the old chipset supports all the features of the 875. If you need FSB 800, then simply increase the clock and use the appropriate CPU, including fast DDR 400 memory. In any case, the Northbridge remains cold, so that you don't even need a fan."

If anyone has the resources to try this out with the GA-8INXP, please post the results here.

Yes I would like to see about putting the 2.4C 800mhz fsb in it but haven't heard anyone doing it. Also do you need a fresh format to enable a HT cpu?

I've been following several forums trying to find any problems with a Gigabyte 8INXP and ATI Radeon 9700 Pro setup. Unfortunately for my plans, I found a lot of problems, and I'm not convinced they are resolved yet.

My question is if there is anyone with that setup and has it working, or has gone through some problems and have fixed them to meet or exceed the standards of the parts.

I have the setup in question and to get reliable operation there is a specific order with driver/software installation after installing the OS. That order is covered in the first page of this thread.

Hi guys I'm new to this forum, and I like it already. What I'm not new to, is using the GA-8INXP. I recently bought 120GB Maxtor SATA drive (8MB cache), and after OS installation I got data corruption (maybe that happenedwhen I carried my comp to LAN party) and I had to reinstall Windows again. After second install everything was fine, regarding stability, but performance was next to terrible. I had 102MB/s in HDtach, and with my old ATA133 HDD I had 118MB/s, than I installed Doom 3 and game choked everytime it accessed HDD (I have 1gig of RAM and R9800Pro). I used SATA drivers supplied with Gigabytes driver disk and installed WinXP SP2, question is do any of you had problems with SATA and this board and what drivers you suggest to use?
Thanks
