Methinks GT5 will have RUF but the likelyhood of them getting the Porsche licence is probably pretty slim. I'd think that the Porsche licence is probably more expensive than Ferrari's licence.

Considering the popularity of RUF I suppose it's not that bad of an exchange though.

RUF has been in the GT series since GT2 I think (yup, confirmed at GTPlanet), and they make awesome mods based on Porsche models, RUF CTR2 was my favorite. But there are just too many awesome Porsche factory cars to not have them present in GT5, I'm talking about the GT1, GT2, GT3, Turbo, RS Spyder, 959, Carrera GT, and a bunch of classic models. Here's hoping they'll add Porsche through addon in a future date. I'm definitely buying that.

I think the concern with Porsche is in regards to damage modeling. Getting a license with Porsche that includes the right to have damage modeling, is probably a rather expensive contract.

While it looks like around 3/4 of the cars in GT5 won't have damage modeling, it does sound like all "race" cars will. So the all the touring, WRC configs, and open-wheel cars, are likely guaranteed to have damage modeling. I'll expect the RUF models will probably have damage modeling.

Oh, believe me, I'm 100% with you. Porsche is far and away my favorite auto mfr, but I wouldn't expect to see it in GT5.

You'd think they could do damage modeling digitally without having to actually crash said vehicles. Also, I don't think damage modeling on RUF would be any cheaper than doing it on Porsche...

They don't crash vehicles... Would be ridiculous if they did that, I'm pretty sure it's all based on digital guesstimation.

Damage Modeling Unfinished

This is good news. After watching the latest videos from GamesCom, it was a little disappointing to see how extremely limited the damage modeling was. The number of cars that [will] have damage modeling will remain the same, but it appears they are working on improving the characteristics and quality of the damage. Either they heard the reactions to what was shown at GamesCom, or they wanted to show what they had so far while continuing the work.

Color me skeptical, but based on past GT releases, I still don't see them releasing GT5 this year.

With GT5, we've already reached and passed that stage of being skeptical. That stage was a year ago. We're in the stage now of just not believing anything until Polyphony or Sony themselves give us a solid date. No "4th quarter" or "this fall" or "2009". I want to see a firm date before I get any hopes up.

I'm expecting a "delay" but they'll just state that "4th Quarter 2009" really meant Q4 Fiscal Year 2009, which iirc for Sony is end of March (GoW3 should be a Q4 FY09 release).

Last I heard EA's Need for Speed had an exclusive on Porsche. This was years ago though.

I think Porsche has been spoiled since they had that EA Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed which featured ONLY Porsches. They need to loosen up the licensing and allow other games to use them. Gran Turismo is the greatest selling racing game of all time, how could it no have Porsche in it?

There needs to be another Porsche Unleashed. That game was fantastic. Aside from Most Wanted that was the last great NFS game.

Looks like GT5 has much better cars and interiors, Forza 3 has much better backgrounds.

Also, GT5 seems to be going for a bit too much reality in terms of the bouncing cockpit, I'm a bumper cam guy so it wouldn't make a difference to me, but I'm thinking that for extended races I'd rather deal with ugly interior modeling without the bouncing if I was a cockpit view type of gamer.

Maybe Porsche doesn't like GT because GT used RUF?

Porsche has weird licensing deals, it depends on if Ferrari is in the game or not what they allow and how much they charge. They've always been like that, really stupid considering how large of an influence games have on the upcoming generations IMO.

Thats what i thought. From that particular video the car textures look better in GT5 but i like the "world" better in forza. GT5 the track just looked like a straight black top road. Not real texture to it. Forza you could see the rubber marks and stuff. The bouncing of rough road was nice in GT5 though. The grass, sand, and trees/houses all looked better in forza to me as well. In GT5 grass and sand just looked like the paint can fill like in MS paint.

O well though still excited for the game!

I personally like the GT5 environments better, more texture, less polygons, sharper, etc. Also, if i'm not wrong, Circuit de la Sarthe was recently repaved and Polyphony noticed that, which is why you might see a difference in the track detail.
