#2 Grew up the first 21 years of my life in Cocoa Beach Florida and have ridden out many storms (even mandatory evacs).

TS and cat 1-2's arent the end of the world.

1. I don't know where the hell you are from. I said Oregon for the hell of it, just picked a state far away.

2. I've seen PLENTY of serious damage done by Cat. 1 and 2 hurricanes. Besides, the water is the most dangerous part. But you get +1 E-peen badass points for telling us you rode out mandatory evacs.

It looks like Jacksonville is going to get the edge in the 5 day forcast. They say the storm could bring wind gusts of at least 40 mph, three inches or more of rain, and possible tornadoes. Looks like I won't be painting the trim.

Back on topic - Have people up in Tampa seemed to take much heed into the warnings? Down here people are pretty chill. Short of a run on batteries, water and flashlights, no one seems to mind much. Guess its the boy who cried wolf, so many warnings and never been directly hit in 60+ years. Looks like Broward on the east coast got scared a little too early, canceling the first day of school for the county even though the storm is supposed to go no where near them. I think Wilma scared em a bit.

Not to much worry around here. A bit of discussion about it, a few people going to the stores, but even the gas stations aren't crazy like they usually are. I expect it to be a bit more busy tomorrow afternoon/evening if the prediction stays the same. I think you're right though. All this time without being directly hit has people really easy going, but from what I understand Tampa is a bowl just like NOLA. I hear that if we took a decent sized direct hit it could be reallly bad downtown.

This is a circus.. My Olympics are being interruped every 5 minutes by an annoying banner that displays over scores and competitors' names.. that also momentarily knocks my HD channel down to normal 480i.. Every commercial break is a weatherman hyping things more than ever.

I have never before seen such a bunch of hoopla for such a tropical storm. MOST hurricanes are pretty much ignored here in FL - on a normal season. These past two seasons have been pretty tame.

I'd say we only really need to worry if this thing will hit shore at 90mph+.. except mobile homes.. they fall down in 2mph winds.

The news is essentially crying wolf.. which causes weather emergencies to be further ignored.. It seems every year the media is hyping things worse than before the last 20 years I've been in Florida.. The only really bad year was 2005.. and whatever year had Hurricane Andrew.
