This is a circus.. My Olympics are being interruped every 5 minutes by an annoying banner that displays over scores and competitors' names.. that also momentarily knocks my HD channel down to normal 480i.. Every commercial break is a weatherman hyping things more than ever.

I have never before seen such a bunch of hoopla for such a tropical storm. MOST hurricanes are pretty much ignored here in FL - on a normal season. These past two seasons have been pretty tame.

I'd say we only really need to worry if this thing will hit shore at 90mph+.. except mobile homes.. they fall down in 2mph winds.

The news is essentially crying wolf.. which causes weather emergencies to be further ignored.. It seems every year the media is hyping things worse than before the last 20 years I've been in Florida.. The only really bad year was 2005.. and whatever year had Hurricane Andrew.

1992. I lived over in South Florida then and we stayed. What a horrible horrible memory

Even at Cat 1, it would make us peeps in NJ piss our pants. Of course, we would only experience a hurricane once in our life times if we're lucky.

Tampa\St. Petersburg checking in. Can't say I'm all that worried about this one, probably more excited about the waves then I am concerned for my condo. I haven't even gotten bottled water. If anyone has ridden out Andrew then they know what a real hurricane is like. Finally, some hurricane waves this season!

Hurricane Party at my place Tuesday night also. All ATOT invited. I live 3 blocks from the bay in downtown St. Pete, odds are we'll see a storm

Cape Coral/Fort Myers, where they're expecting it to be a hurricane.

Not truly worried, filled up the gas tanks in both cars, got an extra propane tank and some water, that's about it. I didn't even put up the storm shutters on the windows, but that could prove to be a mistake.

I didn't think trees could bend the way they did that night. They say the atmospheric pressure was so low, people could hear the air being sucked out through the cracks of their doors.

Sarasota here as well.

Just going to stock up on water and test-fire the generator.

I've lived here so long that Cat1-2 just doesn't rile me all that much any more.

It's funny how the local news keeps trying to compare this to Charley ('04) in that they had the same projected paths. That's ALL they have in common.

Oh, and to the OP, please modify your thread title to reflect the reality that Fay is a TS!

I spent three weeks in Homestead digging out my sister and her husband.
It was the biggest mess I've ever seen in my life.
What an experience.

Be safe you Floridian and Carribean people. I don't have too much experience dealing with hurricane so it scares the bejesus out of me.

Orlando, Fl here and I'm not worried at all. Its only a tropical storm and I'm too far inland to worry about flooding. I think its actually kinda funny how worried people are about this storm, its not even a hurricane yet. If you dont live in a trailer you will be fine.

Even if it reaches Cat 1 status again, this thing is a glorified thunderstorm. Might spawn a couple of tornadoes and some flooding, but it's otherwise relatively harmless.

People will overreact tremendously to this one, though... and then when a real hurricane pops up, they'll underestimate it.

We had these huge floor to ceiling sliding glass doors going all the entire back wall of the living room that separated the house from the pool/patio. During the storm, they bowed outwards a good foot. I didn't think glass could bend that far without breaking, but it did. Freaky looking.

After the storm we went outside to clean up and found individual blades of grass embedded in the concrete siding of one side of our house.

I'm in Coral Springs.

I don't think there'll be a problem, but I put up the shutters and brought in all of the patio equipment yesterday. My parents were worried about it and with my dad being in another state this week, yesterday was the only time for me to prepare the house.

ugh...supposed to fly to Ft Myers Friday to look at places in Sanibel/Captiva for our wedding. Hope it isn't too bad and doesn't affect our trip (then again, i hope it doesn't pull a Katrina and head to MS/LA). Best of luck to SWFL ATers!

People worry because it's common knowledge that with hurricanes, you generally worry when it's too late. Why not be ready for it regadless if it comes or not? Even a category 1 can cause decent damage and knock power out for a few days.

Good luck, should be some good shelling if you make it there.

Orlando. Bringing in the patio/pool furniture and prepping like any other storm. Picking up some bottled water, dry goods, and ice later, just in case.

This should just be a minor blow even if it hits us directly, but I wouldn't underestimate it.

Looks like its going to hit near teh Port Charlotte area now. I guess we'll be getting some nice tropical winds in Tampa along with a decent storm surge. Although I think its still to early to tell for sure. The storm is expected to slow down a bit which should cause it to strengthen over the next 18 hours.
