Has anybody had ANY luck messing with the memory speeds?

My system will normally only boot if I set my memory options to auto detect. CPU-Z tells me it is running at 10-15-15-31 !!! Sometimes it will boot if I set my memory clock to 800MHz and 5-5-5-12, but CPU-Z still says my timings are 10-15-15-31, and the main bios screen says it's running at 667MHz, so it doesn't seem to be doing anything. The thing won't even work if I set it to 533MHz.

I am currently using Corsair xms 5-5-5-12 memory rated at 1.9V. I realise my memory wants .1V more than my board is giving it, but I would think that is within the tolerance. Plus I'd think it would work at 533MHz just fine.

Is anyone with a Conroe chip having problems with this board? Does it need a BIOS update before it will support Conroe?

Dear god am I having problems with this board. Assembling a rig for a friend; after troubleshooting RAM problems (it was 1.8V PC 5200, just didnt work for some reason), got it to correctly display video and recognize all the hardware.

Hardware:
Intel BOXDP965LTCK Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Mobo
eVGA 256-P2-N583-AR Geforce 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
HIPRO HP-P600W/TOP-600P5 ATX V2.01 600W Power Supply - OEM
Pentium D 940 Presler 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core, EM64T Processor
SAMSUNG T133 Series HD300LJ 300GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
KByte 1GB DDR2 4200/3200 PC2-533/400 RAM

My trouble starts when I try to install windows. I boot the disc, go to install it (the point where it says 'press enter to continue' right before it checks the drives and whatnot), press enter, and without fail the system reboots. I am thoroughly confused and cannot find any help via google; time to ask the pros (intel's support system is GARBAGE). I have tried installing SATA drivers by pressing f6 and not; both circumstances lead to a reboot. What's curious is that if i change the plug setup (make the 24-pin thing 20 pin) it gets slightly further in installation then ****** up again. I have replaced the PSU and it does the same thing, leading me to believe it is some config issue, the mobo, processor or HDD. It also wont let me flash the BIOS, it always fails, but i am going to try alternate methods. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I am at my wit's end. thanks for any help.

It supports conroe out of the box, but read my earlier post for my issues.

So far I really don't think I would recommend this board. Lets hope intel can get a decent bios update out there.

Also to the person above me, I wish I had more to say but I didn't have to install any SATA drivers for it to install windows.

I also have an issue where it won't run the included driver or applications cds. I get an error every time.

What kind of memory do you have? If you have something that needs 2.1V, you might be in trouble.

Eek! Such problems. I have that board waiting to be used in my new computer. Just waiting on the CPU to arrive. Now I'm expecting issues... hot.

Well, I got issues as well, might be my own d*** fault...

I made a system with this mobo, with a Core Duo 2 E6400, 2x512MB OCZ Gold XTC DDR2-800 RAM and a 7900GT from PNY.

The RAM requires 2 volt, but this mobo cant give more than 1.8 it seems? at least this comp only gives 3 beeps before it goes to rest again...

It's just hard to get some DDR2-800 RAM using 1.8 volt, since I'm from Denmark, so RAM is quite expensive.

I hope there's some way to fix this issue, not being volt-mod though.

Another annoyance I have with this board is is the fan control. I guess I was hoping it would just lower the voltage of the fans on motherboard headers when it wants to slow them down. Instead they are pwmed. As a result when I'm idle I can hear my fans start up, then turn, then start back up.

I think this board is going to get replaced pretty soon...

anymore news? I was interested in getting this board until I read this. Now I am thinking about other boards. But Have all your problems been resolved, or are you still having them? Would you recomment this board at all? Like can you even get into windows?

I used this board for my first build. Everything worked fine and it booted up on the first try.
Here are the rest of the components:
E6300
CoolerMaster Centurion 5 case
Thermaltake 430W
Corsair ValueSelect 2X1GB DDR2 667 (PC5300)
XFX 7900 GT
WD 250GB
Windows XP Home SP2

There is no overclocking on this board but it's been very stable so far.

Just completed build using DP965LT and E6600 with 2GB Crucial DDR2-800 (2@1GB 1.8V).
Installed XP Pro SP2 and everything is flying.
I did flash BIOS to lastest version 0816 using floppy before installing XP Pro SP2.
Downloaded latest drivers from Intel - no problem.

I do have 2 questions.
BIOS shows memory as 2 @ 1024.
System control panel displays memory as 1.98GB.
What happened to the other .02GB?

Is there an Intel utility to display internal temperatures?

I tried to install the Intel Desktop Utilities. Install bombs indicating SMBIOS driver could not be installed. I cannot find a later version on the Intel site. How can Intel release a board without an updated utility that will install on it? Anyone know how to fix the SMBIOS install problem? Anyone know of a temperature utility that will work on the DP965LT?

I just completed my build with a DP965LT, E6600, Kingston DD2-667, ati x1900xt, Seagate 320 GB hd, XP Sp2, etc.

Nice and stable so far, though it has only been a few hours.

Not sure about the fan problem mentioned above, I have two of the four case fans attached to the MB headers and they start right up and run at a constant low speed. I did flash the bios with the latest at the intel site.

Board seems ok, but it seems to be a step back from some of the previous Intel boards I have used in the past. I have a couple of PC's build with some 865 based Intel boards (two different models), and I was very impressed with overall quality and stability with those boards. I have built systems with Abit, Asus, and MSI in the past and they have always have a glitch or two, but those boards were pretty much flawless.

This board, and especially the bios, seems just a bit cheap and rushed. Intel has been very good in the past with their bios and software updates; hopefully they can improve on that.

Hi,

I had a slightly different problem with the Desktop Utilites:
SM Bus Driver would not install

After some seaching I found this:
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-020838.htm
and about a quarter of the way down it says:

Note: It is critical that the INF utility is installed first before any other drivers.

So I'll try re-installing the OS so I can run this INF thing first. Grrrrrrrrrr.

This is rubbish:

How are you supposed to find that out?
How can you access the internet or even a local network to download the file if you have to install it before any chipset drivers?

The board may be good but the software, support, and the whole package is not fit for purpose.

I'll let you know how I get on.

EDIT: Does not seem to have any effect. I'm really not convinced Intel has actually written/updated the Desktop Utilities for thsi mobo yet.

Hi

Another little irritation.

My trusty bootable DOS Utilities CD won't work with this board. oakcdrom.sys will not see the CD, so I can't boot into DOS with CD support.

The Bios sees the CD drive. You can boot using it and install Windows. WIndows sees teh CD drive. But oakcdrom.sys says there are no CDs.

It works on every other machine I have ever built though. Intels own notes on building bootable DOS CDs tell you (indirectly) to use oakcdrom.sys. Is this a fault of the board or a chipset issue?

This is a finiky motherboard from what Iv'e seen so far

Doesnt work with 1.9v timing, only 1.8v so I have to exchange that, got that working now.
Also, 1 IDE connector isn't bad, it just apperently doesnt work with a 3rd party ATA card (I got one and it apperently was messing up the BIOS everytime it started)
And (this one is fun) I have 1 IDE 120 GB HD and 1 Dual Layer DVD drive, and the only way it works is with the Hard Drive set to primary and the disc drive set to secondary. No other way does it work, not cable select, not anything. Now as much as I'm glad I know have that remidied, I am now trying to figure out how to make the disc drive actually fit in the right spot..

So bottom line: Not a board that you can use ATA addon cards for, and weird IDE for those who want to know

Hi,

Just got a response from Intel Tech Support saying
crmotherboard@mailbox.cps.intel.com
In regards to your inquiry, we regret to inform that unfortunately, Intel(R) Desktop Utilities is not supported yet on the Intel(R) Desktop Board DP965LT.

As this provides essential facilties that are also absent from Bios Setup, I have to wonder whether this motherboard is really ready for market yet.

A few more bugs I have run into:

1) I wanted to reinstall XP, and tried moving the DVD ahead of the harddrive so I could boot from the XP cd instead of hd. The first 2-3 times I tried that it refused to take and kept booting from hd. I finally moved the hd below the floppy (which I don't even have), and that finally took.

2) Turned on the PC during the 'just applied power' fan blowout and had the machine go into a strange state; all fans cranked up to 100% and stayed there without booting. Hitting the power or reset button did nothing until I unplugged/replugged the machine back in. Work fine after doing that. By the 'just applied power' statement; I am talking about the little 2-3 second fan spinup/spindown pc's do when you first plug the machine in or turn on a UPS, but before you actually hit the power button on the case.

Otherwise MB seems stable enough, it is just about as polished as grannies old silverware.

Glad I found this forum as I was about to buy this board. Guess I'll wait till a different model or some fixes appear.

I've had this happen too. I've also had it keep on rebooting in a loop until it was unplugged and plugged back in.,
