I had problems with BIOS 1233, when at PC power up, my keyboard stopped working (funny thing, I can enter the BIOS with my keyboard). Since nobody here had the same problem, last night i flashed my board again, and the problem remained. I flashed back BIOS 1176 and with that BIOS everythig works for me.

Today I see that Intel has removed BIOS 1233 from their download page and now they have only the old version 1176.

My latest issue is Desktop Utilities. It works normally in the SysTray when I boot into my admin account. When I boot into a limited non-admin account, it initially installs in the tray (and works) but then gives an error message along the lines of 'Service can't be loaded,' with the only option to close, then Desktop Utilities disappears from the tray. It can be rerun and works fine but why the error?

If I boot into the admin account then log off and log into a non-admin account Desktop Utilities remain in the tray, no errors.

Anyone else have this happen?

Dave

i had the same issue, it was caused by the sunbelt firewall.
i guess ur issue could be related to a firewall conflict.

Does this mean that if we upgraded to 1233 that we have to revert back to 1176?

1233 is no longer available for d/l
a new bios 1250 is listed. the reame file that accompanies the bios doesnt even mention the 1233 anymore

I flashed the new bios and still my keyboard doesn't work on first power-up.

There is a bug in new BIOS with displaying of pages in BIOS configuration. It doesn't correctly refresh some pages and you see the text of some other page. It looks messy. I don't know why they make such beginner mistakes.

I reverted to BIOS 1176. Maybe the new version will work for you, but I will stick to the old version for now.

AMP i think intel put too much of its resources into kentsfield that they forgot about their 965 mobo's

I posted something of interest to those following this thread, but by mistake it posted to the main motherboard page. Look there for "My DP965LT worked fine etc."

Let's return to the temperature for a moment.

On idle, my processor temperature is 35°C, and processor fan speed is 855 RPM.
On full load, processor temperature is 55°C, and processor fan speed is 855 RPM.

Does anybody have some experience where is the procesor fan treshold for spinning faster then 855 RPM?

The reason I'm asking is this, what if that feature doesn't work and we find out the hard way when, in a year or so,
our computers stop working for overheating problems?

I could use the blowdryer to increse the temperature but it would be to drastic . It's easier to ask someone who lives in a very hot climate.

Hi,

It worked on earlier bioses where the CPU temperasture was over-read. I had the stock Intel HSF fan upto abuot 1600rpm.

Try runing CPU stress program called Orthos, it will rise your CPU temp and sooner or later fan will speed up to cool it down.

Gday,

Ive had this board running for a week or so now, at first there were compatibility problems with my Antec NeoHE psu, but its running fine off a zalman atm.

BIOS 1250 seems to be working fine, along with Intel Desktop Utilities, i only have 2 problems.

1) When i turn on the computer, the fans spin up for a few seconds before it actually starts to boot. (I've read a few others are having this, earlier in the thread)
2) I cant install linux, so im stuck with XP untill the distros update their kernel.

Other than that, it all seems to be fine. The southbridge is running at 48C which appears a little hot, but so far its been stable under hours of stress-testing.

FYI : im running Kingstong ValueRam 1.8v DDR-533 (4200) , and a 7600GT. CPU cooler is running at 1100RPM while CPU is idling at ~39C. (40C according to CoreTemp)

I believe the fan spin-up at AC power-on is due to the wake-on-lan and any other type of automatic wake up. I disabled all of that stuff in the power section of the BIOS, and the fan twitching stopped.

i just upgraded to the 1250 BIOS and the RESTART issue still persists

otherwise i've got all the drivers loaded and working in windowsland, i've even got it incorporated into my single image that works on intel 815,820,845,865,915 boards. it's ready for deployment as soon as intel fixes this resart issue.

so keep complaining to intel folks, they are addressing the issues and posting BIOS updates almost weekly now. one of these updates will address this issue.

the restart feature in windows is critical for me in a remote support enviroment. when i use RDP or VNC and send it a restart command it has to work. as of now it will just hang on a blank screen. I don't have the option of someone pressing the power/reset switch.

I've disabled all the power saving and wake options i could find, unfortunatly it hasnt fixed it. Not a huge problem but would be nice if a future BIOS could stop it.

//edit - thought i quoted another post :x , im refering to the fans starting and stopping before the computer starts booting.

I had this same issue. It is posted on Intels website.... but they offer no solution saying the temps are not a concern. I ended up throwing a zalman cooler that had a fan mate so I could manually up the fan speed. I leave it at around 2400 rpm which is still very quite and it keeps the cpu cool even under 100% load.

I had a problem wih keyboard not working on power-up.

I tried 4 different keyboards and they all worked fine.

So, the problem is my 15 year-old legendary IBM click keyboard that outlived 4 computers, and the new BIOS ver.1250.

Naturaly, i reverted to BIOS ver.1176 where my keyboard works without a problem.

wow, i've got people that will kill before they give up those old IBM clickboards. thanks for the info on that as i'd be experiencing that same problem and thinking the keyboard finally went DOA.

so i'm just waiting for intel to fix the restart problem and these things are ready to go.
if anyone discovers a workaround or figures out the bios settings that remedy the restart issues, lemme know!

i also wanted to add that if you are seeing a PCI Simple Communications Controller device that has a yellow bang in the device mangler - this is the Intel Management Engine and you can manually load the inf/driver - you don't have to run the set-up program for that.

i ran out of DUO core processors so i had to use a standard P4 HT on one of the systems. the first thing i noticed with the P4 processor is that the restart issue disappeared.

so i tinkered with the BIOS settings on the board with the DUO core and have solved my restart problem by DISABLING CORE MULTIPLEXING TECHNOLOGY.

once disabled this board shiuts down and restarts as expected in XP SP2.
maybe VISTA users will have a different experience with that setting enabled, but this is the cause/resolution of my restart problems in XP with the 1250 BIOS.

if you google the term CORE MULTIPLEXING TECHNOLOGY you'll find it's new Intel technology that is still in development and obviously not working properly on this board yet.

i reported my findings to Intel and maybe they will add an entry to their KB and/or fix this in the next BIOS release.

now ready for deployment

thanks to all you folks for the work/info in this thread, it's been very helpful and i'll see ya in the next intel thread -> the 975 series....

Skomp - Skomp? You've just disabled one of your Conroe cores - the board is working as if a P4 were installed. Whatever is causing your restart problem you haven't really cured it by crippling your C2D.
