Russat,

Your problem sounds a lot like the infamous Antec NeoHe PSU problem. There were a few entries earlier in this thread, and there is a whole lot of stuff in silentpcreview.com. Look in the "Consumer Advocacy" forum, and more specifically for the NeoHe thread.

I just had my second P965LT mobo die on me. It seems that these motherboards occasionally decide that they don't like USB-connected hard drives. The hard drive worked fine previously, but when I plugged it in tonight, POOF! Windows freezes and now no more computer (it won't even post). This is EXACTLY what happened before. Any ideas before I pull it out and crack it over my knee? (Sorry, I'm a bit frustrated. Second time in 6 months.)

@eBob, my best guess is to blame the USB HD enclosure or its cable. Connect two positives, and boom, things get damaged. For example like shorting the front panel headers with two positives will kill a motherboard. I saw a coworker install a stick of RAM backwards and power on - boom! Although only the RAM stick was fried! So, perhaps there's a short someplace.

Hi,

Has anyone been having problems with the CPU temps on this board? I have an E6300 which idles at 57 C and goes upto 65 C with load (temps measured using Intel Desktop Utilities and stress test in that same software). CPU fan spins at (only?) 1100 RPM. SpeedFan reports my 2 cores even higher, at 62 and 60 C respectively. With these temps, I'm not about to run Orthos anytime soon!

I have a few questions -

1. How do I turn off the SmartFan in the BIOS? I can't see the option under "Fan Monitoring". I have the latest BIOS dated 03/19/2007. I want the fan to run at top speed always. Noise isnt an issue, doubt it'll do me much good with a toasted CPU.

2. Any idea if the Zalman CNPS9700 HSF will fit on this board? I'm really looking at another cooling solution because this is waay to high to be idling. What HSF do u guys recommend?

Thanks!
Chris D

I had some trouble with Desktop utilities in vista for a while with Vista. I added another HD and dual boot now and do most of my work in XP. Even in xp with the newest bios-fairly new added a week or so ago- it reports temps about 5-10 degrees hotter than core temp. Download Core temp-google it- or try speedfan as well. Core temp and speedfan seem to give similar temps so Id like to believe the lower temps are right.

Dont know how I did it but I installed a scythe ninja revision B a few weeks ago. Was nervous as hell since the fan literally sits on one ram module but it clears all the capacitors and such. I didnt get the temp drops that I wanted even tho were forever stuck with stock speeds on this board. Dont know about the Zalman you meantioned but I would stay away from the scythe since its GINORMOUS. A arctic freezer 7 pro may do a good job since your gonna be @stock as well. Dont Forget to check airflow on your case to make sure your getting fresh air to your cpu and not recirculated hot air like I was when I installed my system for the first time.

Try running with your case side open, If you your temps dont drop and stay low under load try reseating your cpu cooler and applying as5, cant say enough how good that stuff is.

Coretemp unfortuantely crashes (BSOD) my system. Speedfan reports temps higher than IDU - it's reading 9 degrees higher than IDU for both cores!

try reseating your cpu cooler and applying as5

The intel HSF comes with a thermal pad - they've specifically said not to add any sort of paste - so until I change the HSF I'll stick with the pad

Dont Forget to check airflow on your case to make sure your getting fresh air to your cpu and not recirculated hot air

That was a great idea - I turned off an intake fan, and my temps did drop by 5 C - not much but atleast I'm idling at 55 C now.

I guess my only option now is to try a different cooler. As you said, I'll stay away from the Scythe. Will try out the Zalman after some research. Thanks manimal.

Did you install latest board drivers? HECI_ALLOS_VISTA_2.1.22.1026_PV.EXE and the INF_ALLOS_8.1.1.1010_PV.EXE from the intel website? I had stability issues with a version of those back in december. they also in the release notes say they fix temperature readings with Intel desktop utilities.

55 still seems too high, is your cabling neat and tidy inside your case? Try running with the side panel off and see if temps drop even more, if they do then some air flow would definitely help. Grab some zip ties and try to make the cabling a bit more neat especially around the hsf. BTW what kind of case do you have? The case and cooling forum here has a ton of info on specific cases-witch you can search for your model-and gave me great ideas on how to fix mine when I posted my heat Issues. I am about to give up on my old case and get a new one because of heat issues too.

I too notice when the system turns on the fans start for a few seconds then go quite. If I press it again it starts. If this is a BIOS issue it is strange so many revisions have been introduced without addressing this.

Also when I hook up 2 of the 3 pin case fans I have to the motherboard's 3 pin headers to take advantage of the fan speed regulation controlled by the motherboard they make a clicking sound. I could not stand the clicking so I hooked the fans directly to the power supply to run at full speed. According to the following URL:

http://www.xoxideforums.com/air-cooling-airflow/77099-pwm-guide.html

regulating the fans via low frequency pulse width modulation (PWM), which apparently some Intel boards use (does this one?), causes this. Anyone experience this or know of any workaround with this board as I would prefer to have variable and monitorable fan speeds on those 3 pin headers?

Hi guys.

I'm a owner of this board. It works flawlessly.

My string version is 206... I have the lastest BIOS update (1669, dated 4/6/2007).. So my question is, will my motherboard works with QX (Quad) processors?...

I checked a link in this thread and someone the last year tested the QX with the 965LT and it worked fine, so, if that old version of the motherboard (2006) worked, mine should work, right??? Here's the link: http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopi...0&sid=4f9b428319c589280df0bc234658eaa1

BTW... The mobo supports the new Conroes with 4mb cache (E6320 and E6420) since the 1612 bios... But, reading the release notes of the BIOS, I found this:

single character if used under USB Legacy.
? Fixed issue where certain keyboard does not work with USB Legacy
support.

See what I mean??

BTW2... "Looks" like there is a way to overclock the processor using this motheboard... I would never test it, because I don't want to have problems doing it.. (I'm happy with my performance)..

So... I found that the last version of ClockGen (1.5.0.3) supports the "IDT CV174C" (There is a way to confirm that, looking at the motherboard) clock gen, wich looks like is the one used in the DP965LT......
SO..

IF YOU WANT TO TEST THAT, DO IT IN YOUR OWN RISK... I'VE READ THAT IF YOU SELECT THE WRONG CLOCKGEN, YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR MOTHEBOARD
(I would feel guily if someone will post something like "Clockgen fried my 965LT", ok)

Also, I found someone that says that he was able to put the FSB at 309mhz with the 965LT (String??)... Here is the link, it's in spanish... http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=183468

http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:Uh...3468+DP965LT&hl=es&ct=clnk&cd=11&gl=ve

Someone instead.. When the program did read the clocks... The computer frezzed!!!

Thanks for all the reading that I have here... And don't let this thread die... The 965LT still has a lot of things to discover!!

Reeeeeeeally? That might be worth investigating. Any ideas on if this board will support the new 45nm Penryn (or however you spell it) processors?

That's fine. Better that they're fixing things than doing nothing.

Actually.... This BIOS update killed my Supreme Commander performance by about 10%.

I noticed this myself, and I noticed way back in the thread that others experienced this also. This should only occur the first time you plug in power to the PC and then turn it on, or otherwise if there is a power outage. In that case you'd need to wait 7-10 seconds before hitting the power button, or hit the power button, wait 7-10 seconds, and then hit it again. But after the first time the button should always only take one press to power the PC on.

I was having some issues with powering on with one press, and Intel gave me the following advice which fixed it to work as stated above.

If the problem continues, then, remove the RTC (Real Time Clock) battery and leave it out for 20 minutes. After this period of time, insert the battery back in, turn the system back on, and go into BIOS Setup Utility by pressing <F2> during the boot process. Once in the BIOS setup utility, press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings. Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs, which are located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility. Press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.

The reasoon of the BIOS updates could be this:

Around April 10th, 2007, Intel released a microcode update (BIOS flash to the rest of us) so resolve several major issues with how Intel Core 2 series processors operate.

Intel has provided a microcode update as a critical software fix. This Intel microcode update addresses an improper Translation Lookaside Buffer (TLB) invalidation that may result in unpredictable system behavior such as system hangs or incorrect data. OEM's are making available a system BIOS upgrade that integrates a new version of this Intel microcode to address this potential but extremely rare issue. While the occurrence of this issue is extremely rare, OEM's strongly recommends upgrading the system BIOS to an updated version. Intel has indicated that the microcode update has no known measurable performance impact and provides a complete and comprehensive resolution to this issue.

The issues can affect any workstation that uses Intel Core2 Duo desktop processor E4000 and E6000 sequences, Intel Core2 Quad desktop processor Q6600 and Intel Core2 Extreme processors X6800 and QX6700 processors.

While the implications of the issue are difficult to quantify, any of the following symptoms can occur:

The system may stop responding to keyboard or mouse input.
A system operating in a Microsoft Windows environment may generate a blue screen.
A system operating in a Linux environment may generate a kernel panic.
Thanks to Guest for disclosing this information in General Hardware.

Watch for BIOS updates for your motherboards!

This is weird, now i can't use the express bios update. It says " this board does not support intel express bios updates or you have 1 or more incompatable apps running " Currently using version 16.18 with a E6400. never has any issues in the 6 months I have owned this
