Hi,

I just heard a rumour that Intel have discontinued the DP965LT.

Trying to check up on this. Anybody else heard anything?

Also, I notice on Intel's site that the DP965LT will not support Kentsfield - maybe that's an oversight; but there again I notice that in this article:
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2848
they didn't even bother to aks Intel for a list of mobos that did support Kentsfield - suggesting they already knew the answer...

i think intel officially only supports quad core on the i975 based boards.
there's nothing stopping intel from supporting it on other boards, but i guess that's intel's way of telling the world who's boss???

Hi,

My supplier just got back to me.

It seems there was a fault on the board which meant that it was unstable with a 79xx Graphics card, and that Intel withdrew the board for this reason.

A replacement will be avaialable this month, but the tek spec is unclear so far.

Hello,

I have a DG965RY board. I had a problem with bad RAM; couldn't get programs to unpack and install but replacement RAM has fixed that. One weird problem remains: Disk Cleanup never works, always has to close with an error. Anyone else experiencing that?

Also, Desktop Utilities always shows the last 2 temperatures as 63C, even when I've just turned the computer on. Other temps stabilize around high 30s-low 40s; I assume the last 2 just aren't working. Thoughts?

thanks,

Dave

it just won't REBOOT when you select RESTART, it will just hang here. you have to manually turn it on/off and when you're using RDP or other remote software, that RESTART function in windows is key to have.

the drivers for this 965 were easy to extract and load, a lot better then the 945 that i gave up on due to the audio driver not loading without some intervention from the pope.

i need to build fully automated, unattended installations because the stuff i load may end up across the country. it's critical that i get the drivers to install without any user intervention. i've been able to keep a single image that works with the 815, 820, 845, 865, 915 boards.

the 945 killed me because the audio driver simply will not load, attended or unattended no matter what.

the 965 audio driver does load, so someone at intel was listening to us gripe about the 945 driver.

in fact i have all the 965 drivers loading now, this board is ready for deployment other than the fact it exhibts windows 98 shutdown issues now. i just have to wait until Intel posts the next BIOS update which i hope fixes this

otherwise i'm hopefull that is not a rumor and the board is maybe being recalled because it definately has some issues.

the kind of issues that people that are posting here generally resolve on their own-
except when it is a manufacturing issue.

Maybe we should bug intel for a refund on this board. Mine has been stable with a 7800GT OC, but after the lat BIOS upgrade I found out the fan is stuck at the slowest speed. So as I play games and the cpu heats up the fan stays the same speed. It gets warm, but fortunately this is a cool running chip and doesn't overheat.

I expected 965 is not quite ready yet, but this is worse than I imagined. If were sold faulty boards, a refund/ free replacement is the least Intel should do.

Mine's been very stable with a 7300GT graphics card (don't use it for gaming, only audio apps).

The processor fan speed control issue doesn't sound good though. I'm not in a position to test at the moment, so wondered if anyone else can verify this issue with their board?

But begs the question:

* why are no AHCI drivers for XP available?

since the hardware patently does support AHCI.

i thought about that and the only answer i could come up with was that vista natively supports serial-ata drives. no driver needed. i dont think intel ever made one for the XP for this particular board/chipset
also anyone knows what "HPET enable disbale" does.
its supposed to be a constriction for "Hight Precision Event Timer". have heard of these on server boards, but whats one doing here????

Hi,

Just flashed to 1233. No problems.

1. The warning message that AHCI works only with Vista is there. So the issue is now why no XP driver is available.

2. The lack of DOS support for Optical IDE drives issue is unchanged.

3. The 1.5V rail being reported at around 1.25V is unchanged.

4. The fictitious temperature sensor which always reports 63C has gone

5. The bios reports two different Motherboard temperatures even though only one is supposed to exist. Also the temperature difference between them is suspiciously large - 27C vs 41C

6. CPU temperature is now at least 10C lower - possibly about right

7 ICH and MCH temperatures still suspiciuosly high and suspiciously insensitive - they don't change if I point a big fan at the ICH amd MCH heatsinks. Also, the ICH feels a lot cooler than the MCH to the touch, but both termpertures are reported the about same 46C and 48C. I'd guess they are more like 28 and 36 respectively.

EDIT: The ICH and MCH temperatures remain fixed a 48C and 46C respectively whatever I do. Can't be right.

8. Still no RAM Voltage readout.

9. IDE devices still don't show up in Drive configuration, though they are present in Boot Sequence.

10. I havn't tested the incorrect ordering of the Boot Sequence (whereby any IDE device is treated as a reference to both IDE devices - Master then Slave) yet.

EDIT: tested that now. unchanged. I have my DVD as Master and IDE system disk as Slave to circumvent this.

11. I have no means of testing the problem with instability if you fit a 7950GT graphics card.

12.
EDIT Still don't know if the inf file in the DP965LT downloads section is the correct one to use:
(version 8.0.1.1002 dated 31 May 2006)
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts...=all&ProductID=2374&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21
rather than the later version for the 965 chipset in general
(version 8.1.1.1001 dated 21 Aug 2006)
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts...s=all&ProductID=816&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

13.
EDIT. No confirmation from Intel that the DP965LT is being discontinued

Looking through this thread, I cannot reproduce any other problem mentioned here.

I've got two more boards on order. If I get different behaviour on either of them I'll post again.

so i guess we haven't seen the last bios update for the 965 chipset

@pcy
What do you mean instability with 7950GT graphics card? Does this board also have issues regarding graphics card? I thought it only
had issues with RAM.

I'm referiing to my earlier posts. Together, thay say:

From the decription it seems likely that the board cannot supply enough power to a top flight graphics card.

It's possible that there has been a mis-understanding and Intel has simply replaced the board - i.e. provided a replacement to my supplier (they had 600, it seems, and could not get any of them to work with a 7950GT) - while they (Intel) work on a revision.

But yes - there does seem to be an issue on this board with sufficiently power hungry Graphics Cards.

I just updated the BIOS to ver. 1233, loaded optimal defaults and configured the options. All seemed fine until i turned off the PC and on again.

My PS/2 keyboard stopped working. When i restarted the PC, keyboard worked again. In the event log i found "Keyboard not found".

Every time i turn on the PC, keyboard doesn't work. When I restart, the keyboard works again.

Now I flashed the old BIOS ver. 1176, and it works fine.

Does anyone have the same problem?

Hi,

I can't reproduce your restart problem. Could it bee that the mobo draws too liitle power. Yes - I did mean too little.

Check this out:
http://www.silentpcreview.com/news652.html

On a completely separate point I just recieved a further 2 GB of RAM, so I'm currently running MemTest86 on my first DP965LT mobo. 2 1/2 hours and no errors so far.

The RAM is Corsair XMS2 DDRII 6400 (800Mhz, 5-5-5-12), nominally rated at 1.9V.

Maybe this is juat a good sample of the DP965LT - I'll know more when the next two mobos arrive.

I did some testing on this issue and they both work fine. As far as I could tell from digging through the readme and by comparing files, they both actually contain the same files for the P965/G965 dated 5-31, it's just that the later version also has files for additional Intel chipsets. Given that, I used the version dated 5-31 since I obviously don't need the extra files for the other chipsets.

What puzzles me now is why the LAN driver went from version 12.0-which I have installed-down to version 11.1 on the download page. Oh well, at least 12.0 works fine for me.

When you install the 12.0 version, in add/remove programs is listed as 11.1.

I think they mixed something up and corrected the problem by going back to the real version (11.1)

well i'm not really certain if its the mobos fault regarding the restart problem coz i remember that it did restart fine even after the bios 1176 bios upgrade. My DP965 started having these restart problems after some automatic windows upgrades after the bios update.

I don't feel like reinstalling windows so I guess I'll leave it as it is for now besides pressing the reset button will be a good exercise hehehe.

Usefull.... thanks.

Intel Tech Support just gave me the same advice; though I'm not convinced they really know.

It stil looks (at best) very unprofessional when the latest version of the inf file for a chipset is later than the latest version for a motherboard built using that chipset.

Hi,

1.
Intel Tech Support say ther DP965LT has not been officially discontinued.
But they didn't know about the problem with the 7950GTs either.

EDIT: The know about it know - and thaey are absolutely adamant that eh DP965LT will not be discontinuued, and that they are working with nVidia to solve the problem.

I agree (see Indigo's post below) that this is probably a power problem caused by thefact that the DP965LT lacks the extra ATX power feed that most boards now have.

2.
Apparently a proper DOS driver for IDE CD Roms will be available in amonth (or two).

I wonder how is this problem related to 7950GT. Those cards needs extra power by ATX connector, thus providing stable voltage straight from psu. If there is problem in DP965LT not providing enough power from pci-e, wouldn't it be more logical, that cards without extra ATX power feed failed in first place?

Hello,

Still working through some weird issues on my DG965RY, trying to determine what's leftover from installing programs with bad RAM vs. what are "normal" issues.

My latest issue is Desktop Utilities. It works normally in the SysTray when I boot into my admin account. When I boot into a limited non-admin account, it initially installs in the tray (and works) but then gives an error message along the lines of 'Service can't be loaded,' with the only option to close, then Desktop Utilities disappears from the tray. It can be rerun and works fine but why the error?

If I boot into the admin account then log off and log into a non-admin account Desktop Utilities remain in the tray, no errors.

Anyone else have this happen?
