Try that again!

I had restart issues with this board when I disabled the LAN from within windows but left it enabled in the BIOS. The PC would look like it was going to shutdown but never got there. Had to turn it off by holding the power button for 4 seconds. I discovered the hard way that if you want to disable the LAN (because you are using wireless or whatever) you must do so in the BIOS.

Secondly, I still can't get the PC to wake-up using the sleep button on my wireless keyboard (Logitech S510). It goes to standby OK using the sleep button but won't wake from it unless I use the main power button on the front of the PC case. Both the keyboard and the Board say they support wake from S3 mode. Any ideas?

I have also had a problem with BIOS 1250 and have returned to BIOS 1176. The problem was my Benq 1620 DVD burner was not consistently recognized by the BIOS after updating to Bios 1250. Sometimes it showed up and sometimes not. I never had this problem on BIOS 1176. Now back on BIOS 1176, my DVD is recognized again. I guess this is the price of frequent BIOS updates-- sometimes it's one step forward but 2 steps backwards. Maybe it makes more sense to wait for a mature BIOS rather than updating immediately with every new release. Anybody else having a problem with CD or DVD drives on the parallel cable?

the only issue i'm having is that the first time i start up nero with a blank disc (DVD-R) inserted in my lg4160b writer, it gets the disc capacity wrong (it says i have 25 gigs free!).

other than that i've had no issues. may be there is a new firmware for ur writer that u might want to try

if disabling that setting in BIOS means the system restarts now when i select restart, i would have to say that cured the issue i was having. i'm sure this is some BIOS/OS issue that intel will resolve. for now the folks these boards will get deployed to will never use the features of or notice the difference between a P4 and a C2D processor.

this isn't the first time i've not taken advantage of some new Intel feature/technology that is buggy out of the box. reliability/dependability always take precedence over speed in my enviroment.

i did as much research as i could on Core Multiplexing Technology. The lack of good accurate inforamation out there tells me a lot about it.

I've been using ATA/IDE Mode as NATIVE and not had a single issue with IDE HD's or CD/DVD players.

When i used LEGACY it didn't matter what drive or jumpers i was using, the BIOS was very flaky about detecting drives properly every time.

i can't afford unpredictable drive detection when these systems get deployed so this is another bios setting i'm stuck using because it works as opposed to the other setting that proved to be flaky in my testing.

the bios is #1458, which is quite a jump on the 1250. however not many changes listed. what caught my attention
1. hide usb2 option in bios option menu
2. irq fix for usb interrupts.

didnt know there existed a problem with usb's interrupts.
and dont quite understand #1. does it mean that the option to turn on or off usb2 is now only avilable when the jumper on the mobo is switched?

Where do I get a cable for the serial port header to bring the serial port to the outside of the case as a standard 9-pin connect port?

I was able to find an appropriate "serial port bracket" at Cables to Go. Be sure to get the longer version, as Intel placed the serial connector way up at the top of the board. I was unable to find any other source for the long cable.

I was apprehensive about purchasing the Intel BoxDP965 LTCK motherboard after reading many of the comments in this thread. About 3 years ago I set up a home networking system based on the Intel D865 PERLL motherboard. I have four of these motherboards, populated with one Celeron D, one Prescott, and two Northwood Cs. They have run faithfully and the one incident I had with one of the boards, Intel was quick to respond and promptly replaced the board. In other words, rock steady backed by excellent service. I value rock-solid reliability and first rate warranty service (if I need it) over the ability to over-clock.

Well, I went ahead and decided to try the 965 LTCK. I paired the motherboard with two 1 gig sticks of 1.8 v. 667 DDR2 Kingston memory, a Core2 Duo 6600, an Evga 7950 GT KO, an Antec 430 watt TruePower 2.0 PS, a 250 GB Western Digital WD2500KSRTL SATA drive, all housed in the original Antec Sonata case with two 120 mm case fans. I only have one optical drive, a NEC 3550A DVD writer.

The machine posted, I went into the BIOS and changed the drive configuration mode from AHCI to IDE, the ATA/IDE mode to Native, saved, and then loaded XP Pro without problem (with the original BIOS). I then loaded BIOS version 1250 followed today with ver. 1458. The system runs rock-steady even after an extended 3 hour session of online gaming. This is not a board for over-clocking or SLI. But for about $110 bucks you get a rock-solid board with Firewire capability and an Intel 3-year warranty. I used AS5 for the CPU and am running 38 degrees C at idle and 51 after 3 hours of heavy gaming, with an ambient temperature of 74 degrees F. Dunno...maybe I lucked out...but, right now, I am a happy camper!

Updated to the 1458 bios. All basic appears to be working fine so far.
I wonder what that usb IRQ fix in release notes means?
The reason why I was interested in about this bios, is because usb ports in this mobo seem to hog lots of irq's. That also means my creamware card is shared with usb. And I'm getting occasional freezes when working with music. However, this bios version didn't change anything for reallocating irq's.

hello everyone,

i've just purchased this board recently and updated the bios to 1458. So far my problem is the fan's RPM is much more slower (i am using the stock fan) compared on the default stock bios (which I assume it's running on the full speed). I've noticed that whenever the cpu temp rises, the fan's RPM also increases. But what I want is to make the cpu's fan running at full speed, is there's an option to do this? many thanks.

Hi,

I just found this thread, and I have to say WOW. A really great source of information about the G965 chipset based boards from Intel. Kudos to all of the people who have contributed. I have built a machine based on the DG965RY and have used Mushkin EM2-6400 RAM. The machine is running Gentoo Linux. Whilst the memory detection it set to automatic, I am able to detect RAM errors using memtester while the machine is under load. If I use manual settings (5-5-5-15@533Mhz), the errors seem to be gone. This is 1.9V RAM, and although Intel doesn't officially support it, I don't see any reason why not. It is kind of absurd to expect that everyone use 1.8V 800Mhz RAM as it is more expensive and somewhat hard to get in certain areas. I have submitted a tech support request to Intel to inquire about proper support for 1.9V RAM and RAM voltage readout. What I would like to know is if anyone who has used this RAM with the DG965RY (or other G965 boards) has had problems. I really can't rule out defective RAM yet, but I would like to see what others have to say about this.

i think if u flash ur bios to the latest version (1458) it would run ur mem okay.
intel said that it would include user selectable Vmem (voltage for RAM) in a future bios release

hmm....I guess I might have some defecive RAM then. I am currently running the 1458 BIOS, and the problems are still there. I will test the sticks individually, and see if I can get the same errors with one or the other. I'll report back when I find out. Still, if anyone has used the EM2-6400 from mushkin and had problems, I'd like to hear from you!

this might sound like real stupid; but u have one ram stick in slot A, the mem slot closest to cpu socket. if u dont then u will always have issues.

Hi, I just joined - like everyone else, I am trying to make heads or tails out of this intel MB.
I got mine almost 2 weeks ago - installed XP-64 and it hung on the last startup of the install. Installed XP pro (non-SP2), it hung on the last startup of the install. Installed XP Home (SP-2), it hung on the last startup. Called Intel - was told to flash the bios, asked if I could verify the components worked. BIOS would not flash. Called Intel - they said send it back. Almost a week later (after I paid for shipping) got a 'new' MB (exact same bios level). Installed XP-64 - it hung in the same place. Tried to recovery flash the bios - would not work. Took all the pieces parts to other machines and verified they worked. Put in a different (IDE not SATA) HD and it also hung - same place. Called Intel - he said to try to do a dos based bios upgrade. Bios too big for floppy - spent forever trying to create a bootable CD (don't use dos much anymore). Made a bootable floppy with CDROM support work - though it errored saying it could not find a CDROM (I was using a CDRW/DVD) - put in a different CDROM and could not get the bootable floppy to work. (Real Strange). Tried to do a repair to the XP-64 install. It WORKED! So, I have xp-64 running, updated windows. Tried to update the bios - it gave me an "internal error" (lots of info there) and refused to update the bios. Plugged in the other CDROM and the machine hung on startup - I guess it doesn't like it.
I am perturbed the bios will not update - and I really think the Intel guy was just trying to get rid of me.
Any suggestions?

@four2pool
At what slot did u place ur Memory Module?
You MUST have 1 Mem inserted at Channel A, the Mem Slots near the CPU.

Go to page 8 and 9 of this thread for further details

A few people seem to be having issues and I had a minor issue with the fan not pseeding up... but overall this board is rock stable and runs like a champ. The only thing I did in the BIOS is set the ram timings to manual. After I did that all my problems disappeared. They key to this mobo is to stick with the RAM that other people are getting to work with no issues.

@ cympaulife

Yep - I am using 2 - 512mbs of memory and the slot closest to the CPU is populated.

I called Intel again and asked for another board. Hopefully 3rd times a charm....
Thank you

I am new to this forum and have read all 14 pages. I'd like to thank everybody for their input on the DP965LT motherboard. I was wanting to OC my system listed below and have flashed my bios with the news version (1458) from Intel. Can somebody please walk me through in steps of OCing? I'd like it outlined in steps / screen shoots would even be nicer.

My System:
Processor: 6400
Motherboard: DP965LT
RAM: 2GB PC 5300 667mhz
Video: 7900GTO

That motherboard isn't going to allow any overclocking.
