Ugh...

I bought a DO965LT from Newegg, along with this RAM:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?Item=N82E16820227139

I also got a Core 2 Duo E4400, a monitor, some headphones, a cheapo 8400GS, a hard drive, moyse, keyboard, case and PSU, and a sexy philips 20x burner.

Hell, I bought and assembled a new computer desk for this low-end machine.

I got the PSU today (received everything else except the hard drive back on Friday).
I popped it in and booted up my system.
It froze in BIOS a time or two.
I then ran memtest and it failed.
I isolated the problem to 1 stick.
(The other stick passed both 3 passes of memtest and 1 pass of the extended windows memory checker tests).

So I ran Ubuntu Live on the good stick and that was fine.
For a while.

Now the system won't boot even with only the good stick in.
I've tried clearing the CMOS by pulling the battery (and power plug).

I don't know whether to RMA the ram, the cpu, the mobo, or all of it.
Hell, I think the mobo fried the right side of the headphones.

When I try to boot, I get stuck on 58 or 5A (in the lower right, the POST codes).
Sometimes I'll get past it after waiting a few minutes, but usually I don't.

The really sucky thing is that the rebate for the ram had to be postmarked so soon that I;ve already sent it in - now I can't RMA with newegg for new ram because of the damned UPC being gone.

I know this board only supports 1.8 V for ram, but come on - this is rated at 1.9 V, and it
was working (1 stick at least) for a while.

So disappointed - new job, new paycheck size, wanted to build a computer for fun and on the cheap ($900 total for all the stuff mentioned above).
Monitor's great. Love the case and the burner - I hope the burner hasn't been damaged. Headphones were great while they worked - currently being RMAd. Keyboard and mouse are good.
Love the new desk I built.
I assume the hard drive will be good.

But right now I'm so frustrated.
RMA the RAM? The CPU? The Mobo?
Will that even help?
Newegg offered me a "combo deal" to buy this ram and mobo together. If they aren't compatible, that's newegg's fault.

I hope the PSU is not at fault either.

Help/advice?
My system has been sitting at the boot logo with 5A in the corner for over 30 minutes.
I'm going to bed.

I wish I had another DDR2 / LGA 775 system to test with.

Hey, I bought this board, and had a question. It booted up fine at first with a pre-existing hardrive. It was hooked up in a NXTZ Case and when I came back from work I noticed it had turned off and a smell of burning rubber could be detected. When I opened my case I notced that the wire leading to the front panel audio (combined AC97 and HD audio on the same cable) was completely burned through (shielding and actual wires were completely separated). After doing a quick search I noticed that something very similar happened to someone else with a DP965LT board? Has anyone else heard of this happening?

I dont know which was at fault the case wiring or the board but I am returning both...not sure if I am going to go witht he same board again just to be safe.

Quick question, I should be fine connecting both the AC95 module and the HD audio audio pin connectors correct? I couldnt find anything in the manual so I am un sure.

Same thing happened to me (in the short time I had the board) - I noticed that the wires were getting very hot so I disconnected them both.

I think the "HD AUDIO" headers on the board are for a special 3.5" drive bay / panel thingy Intel sometimes ships / sells. There is no documentation anywhere.

Connect the HD Audio front panel headers to the AC '97 pins on the board.

Or, if that doesn't work, connect the AC '97 front panel headers to the AC '97 pins on the board.

As far as I know, you should not ever use the long rows of black pins on the board that are referred to HD Audio connectors. I believe that's for a specific 3.5" adapter that is no longer in existence.

The Intel board I had fried my headphones because of this, I think.

Good luck.

Installed Windows XP Professional on my Intel DP965LT mb. I have 2GB memory. I download Intel programs.

I am unable to execute the following downloaded programs:

Intel Chip Set Softeware Installation Utility for Intel Desktop Boards
INF_AllOS_8.4.0.1016_PV_Intel.exe -
The Application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Restalling the application may fix the problem.

The Intell Desktop Utility
IDU_3.0.14.19.exe
The Intel SM Bus drivers could not be installed. This is a required driver. The installation will now abort.

Intel Integrator Toolkit
iTK_FE_3.2.1.146.exe unzip to toolkit_3.2.1.146.exe
Component Transfer Error
The Parameter is incorrect.

Intel Management Engine Interface Drivers
HECI_Win2K_allXP_Vista32.2.1.22.1026_.exe
Error executing the specific program
c:\program files\Intel Desktop Board\HECI_2.1.22.1026_PV\setup.exe
unable to execute the specific command line.

Thank you for your help.

Well I decided to update the BIOS to the latest release and now I have no end of trouble. The machine will POST but when it flashes the hex numbers on the bottom right of the screen it hangs on E7 and will go no further. I have tried the BIOS recovery by attaching a floppy drive and even tried CD-Rom but it won't load Rev 1669 from either of these two locations.

Anyone got any ideas or is it a case of getting a new mobo.

I know it's late in the life of this board, but I got burned by the "1.8V" OCZ memory myself. It's not their fault, Newegg just listed the voltage incorrectly. I got some Patriot 1.8V memory and my computer has been flawless ever since.

I'm sticking with Intel brand motherboards.

have the Intel DP965LT motherboard with Celeron D CPU at 3GHz.
This motherboard has 4 empty memory slots:
Channel A, DIMM 0
Channel A, DIMM 1
Channel B, DIMM 0
Channel B, DIMM 1

If I have 1GB at Channel A, DIMM 0, I can run both XP and Vista fine.

I am unable to run XP at 2GB stable.
Best test is to run the defragmenter.
I will get the blue screen and operating system crashed.

I can run Vista at 2GB stable only when I have:
Channel A, DIMM 0 has 1GB
Channel B, DIMM 0 has 1GB.
But when I run Vista at 2GB, it does blue screen crash about once every other weeks

I am unable to run Vista at 2GB when I have:
Channel A, DIMM 0 has 1GB
Channel A, DIMM 1 has 1GB.
I run the defragmenter and Vista will crash.

Is this what you folks found how to run this mb at 2GB?

Download the Intel Desktop Utilities from the Intel site if you don't have it yet.
In the System Information click on Details...should show information about your board.
Look at the last three numbers in the Version column. GL

Just found and joined this group today and already it's been worthwhile.
My DP965LT wouldn't boot (hung on 5A during boot) and your tips now have me up and running.

If this question has already been answered, please forgive me and just point me in the
right direction.

mobo: DP965LT
Memory: 4GB and recognized by mobo utilities (3.4GB recognized by XP...but I'm upgrading to Vista soon....is it really called Upgrading where Vista is concerned?)
Intel 4400 Core 2 Duo processor
ATI 3850 video

My question is about the front audio connectors on my case.
I have headphone and mic jacks but if I plug the front panel connector into the "Audio" header
on the mobo, the system will not boot. No beeps, no nuthin'. Just won't boot.

My question? Where do (can I? ) I connect the front panel jacks?
Everything else went fairly smoothly (I have not yet updated the bios) so I really have no other complaints.

Feel free to email me at geezer51 AT verizon DOT net

Thanks,
Dan

My DP965LT is now dead. Fortunately all my components are still good (CPU, Memory, and Video Card). They all work in the new motherboard (a Gigabyte EP-35-DS4)

The other night I noticed the computer (with the DP965LT MB) was locked. Mouse pointer wouldn't move. Cap lock light was unresponsive. Cntl Alt del unresponsive. It was late so I powered it down. The next day when I powered up, there were fans but no video and no beep codes. Tried a different power supply and it was no different. Removed it from the case and removed all components except the CPU. Still no beeps. Tried a CMOS reset and a Recovery BIOS disk. both would not work.

I ordered a new P35 board and it works fine with all the same components. Conclusion, the DP965LT motherboard failed.

It only lasted a year and a half so I plan to RMA it to Intel to see how they handle it.

Hello everyone. I have a Q6600, DP965LT and 8GB DDR2 800Mhz A-Data. I am using Vista 64bit SP1. I have a really big problem. I had 4 GB DDR2 800Mhz Kingmax memory and only one hard-drive (80GB Maxtor). Two days ago, I bought another hard-drive (Western Digital 160GB) and 4 x 2GB 800Mhz A-Data. I instaled everything and I boot my computer. It took about 5-6 minutes from powering up the PC till Windows did load. Now, everything is much slower, when I power on my PC, the green loading baar from Vista is running for 3 or 4 minutes. Instaling a game (UT3) took about 35 minutes. 3D Studio Max opens MUCH slower.Everything is slower..
My suspect was the new hard drive. I took it out - but the problem still exists..Please help people, since this is my PC for work/earning money. Thank you!

EDIT: I removed 2 pices of RAM, now it has 4GB instaled and it runs perfectly! When I add more than 4 GBs it runs like a dead cat. Does anybody know how to resolve this? I flashed it to the newest BIOS.

Okay, let me preface this by saying to anyone considering purchasing the DP965LT Intel board to not. The board is not flexibile at all when considering upgrades. It's very specific in what can and cannot be used which includes memory, processor, and etc.

So if you're the type that likes to overclock and upgrade your system this board is NOT for you.

The problem I was having was that when my system was trying to access upper level memory functions it would crash whatever application was involved. I decided to "upgrade" the memory.

After having carefully examining the technical manual and after purchasing 4 different memory kits this is my overall conclusion:

The dual channel mode for memory DOES NOT WORK. At least on my board. This was after using several permutations of memory and slot positions. I read their guide carefully and followed the instructions to the letter.

Now let me add that shopping for replacement memory was not easy. The stipulation is as follows:

01. 1.8v ONLY. And this is stated in the spec sheet twice and they're very explicit about it. 1.9v didn't work and 1.5v didn't work either oddly enough.

02. Use memory with the 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 latency ONLY. Which really limits what you can do.

03. If you want 4 gigs of memory DDR2/800 dims CANNOT be more than 1gig. DDR2/667 can be 2gig.

Now after having purchased RAM per their precise specification I discovered that dual channel mode does not work. What happens when aligning the ram in that configuration a lag is created when trying to load applications. But when not aligned for dual channel mode it works perfectly fine. My guess is that there's an architechtural defect in the design of the board that does not allow the memory to work synchronously when trying to establish dual channel.

3 one gig RAM works fine. 2 two gig RAM works fine as long as you don't try to configure for dual channel mode.
