lol...

Am I the only one who thinks it's a joke Nvidia released a high end card with a 225w hard cap? I mean it's a nice card and all, but giving end users only 30 additonal watts to play with for overclocking? WTH? Hopefully they did it to limit it's potential against BigK, but seriously... It's just awful

Maybe because GK104 was never meant to be the "real" GTX680 (--> GTX670Ti).

I think the AIBs will ship cards with 6/8 and 8/8 pin connectors, 5-14 power phases and the floodgates for better overclocking will open.

Problem is the card built for watercooling in mind with 8-8 pin + 14 power phases will probably cost $750 and still lose to the Hellspawn 470s. So you are still sitting this one out. :awe:

2GHZ? I've never seen a factory OCed card with a 100% OC lol. That will be pretty crazy.

Now I need my cards to get here more than ever. Booted up my system before I went to pull the cards out to get them ready to sell - nasty burnt electronics smell fills the air, system shuts down.

Panic, check water loop for leaks - none. Start sniffing around and taking parts out, the stench is coming from my top slot 480. Disassemble it, VRM fried ? WTF?! lol.

Even on their way out my door the 480s are giving me headaches  'Get rid of me ? eff you! VRM asplode.'

Lucky my buyer didn't back out, but he haggled a $20 discount off the price of two because 'he was expecting all three' :sneaky: Now I have to RMA this fried one. Hopefully they send me a 580 as a replacement.

Haha... Pity after upgrading to surround I was really hoping to at least break even... It's just not going to happen right now. I was willing to pay the $50~ price increase too, but at this point it seems performance wise unless I spend over double what I've already spent and go SLI/CF this gen is pretty lacking.

The cooler the gk104 is, the less power it will pull and the higher the frequency will be on the boost clocks. Run 3dmark at 10% fan and then run at 100% fan. Change no other settings, and watch a nice increase in 3dmarks. Pretty neat little feature of "GPU BOOST". Freeze it, and it wants to run full boost more often.

My card will hopefully be on water on Monday once I get it, if my MCW82 bolts right on. It keeps my 1250 core 7950 at 40C max, so kinda excited at the potential: D

Oh snap. Sounds like one of those 480s came off the same assembly line as the GTX590s. Interesting how 1 of those 480s decided to crap out right at the 2-year mark -- imo too short of a warranty period for $500 cards.

Does that mean you have to sell the RMAed card to someone else then? There is a member on our forum who hasn't upgraded since he bought GeForce 3 Ti200 because he keeps waiting to see how newer cards will do in benchmarks....you should donate it to him! () Although he might be waiting to see how next generation of power supplies will perform after Platinums. On that thought donating might prove fruitless.

Not sure what I will do with the replacement. Was really happy to find one person who was interested in them all, rather than having to waste time on back and forth emails trying to get rid of them 1 by 1.

If they send me a 580 back I will definitely keep it and put it in my wife's computer. If it's a 480, maybe I will raffle it off via the forums, more a curse to get it than a blessing imho ()

That is beyond ironic, but here's hoping you get that GTX 580 as well (hopefully whatever AIB you went with is trying to offload them now that the GTX 680 is out).

It would be interesting. If people can get in the 125-150 offset range on air, hopefully you can push to 200 on water.
Does NV's list of 3D gaming support include Angry Birds Space? I kid, I kid.

Diablo 3 Co-op FTW

They did it because the chip is already being pushed hard to get it where it's at I presume.

Has anyone bought one in the last 24hrs? Need one more for a gift and all the usual is out.

It's a dick move but there will be a work around. Others are proving it.

I paid for mine last night around 7PM CST, got lucky on an F5 rotation on Newegg and scored a Gigabyte

It'd be nice to see utilize the full potential some of these seem to have, so I hope so

Well... all day lol. In spurts. Got home after going out for dinner, decided to F5 during commercials in a game I was watching, and bam, 20 mins or so later scored it.

Card looks great IMO. Faster and cheaper than a HD7970, uses less power too - what's not to like?

Once IVB is here, I'll be upgrading. At this moment the GTX680 is my choice (though it still may change ). Plus I read somewhere that Borderlands 2 will use PhysX for extra eye candy - since I greatly enjoyed Borderlands 1, this also sways the decision towards the green camp for me this round.

No way, there are still too many 480's out there. They'll probably send you a refurbished 480, maybe a 570 if you're lucky.

I mentioned this the other day. They must be absolutely terrified after all the bad press they got re explosions/fires/etc etc during the gtx 590 launch. They pulled an outstanding rabbit out of their hat here, no point in ruining the parade just b/c w1zzard and some swedish dudes decide to do some extreme overclocking, right? They'll have workarounds out very soon I'm sure, and with the robust cards typical of hgih end custom designs overclocking over 225w won't be nearly as dangerous.

Lucky? Getting a worse card in some aspects in unacceptable IMHO

It would be unlucky if he still had the other 2 480's, but in terms of resale value it would be lucky because he wants to sell it immediately and 570's have a higher resale value currently.

I wasn't saying that the 570 was actually better than the 480 btw. I much prefer my 480, NV cheaped out on the 570 in so many ways.

I haven't looked at it that way so for him getting gtx570 will be better.

The 7970 without a doubt has the potential to be much faster.

I do not believe this is at all an accurate statement, especially after the gtx680 has been out for all of two days. Lets see how AIB custom cards do, lets get some aggregate water cooling scores, and lets wait and see where things are in a month or two instead of irrationally coming ton conclusions that support the theory we want to believe in most.

It's a simple matter of examining the hardware. I'd be more than happy to compare benchmarks head to head. You can make as many snide comments as you want, it doesn't change that.
