Learned a new kind of STAT PADDING today: the quit-to-dashboard-when-you're-not-doing-well technique. A cold shutdown also works.

MW2 updates your stats either a) when the round is over, or b) when you exit a match "normally". If you shut your console off or quit to the dashboard mid-game, your stats aren't uploaded. So people are basically picking a k/d ratio that they want to achieve, and whenever they're having a game that's a lower k/d than the "target", they just quit the match in said manner.

I found this out while playing several coworkers. They all have pretty nice k/d ratios, but I've noticed since MW2’s release that they get "connection issues" when they’re doing poorly... and ONLY when they’re doing poorly. Finally I just flat-out asked them what was going on, and they spilled the beans. A few simple tests on my part confirmed it: if you quit in the described manner, your stats don't count for that round.

Here's how to spot these weenies:

> They pop in and out of matches a LOT. They rarely finish a match in which they're not doing well.

> That might sound normal (who wants to play while frustrated?), but their quitting is usually followed by an XBL notification that they're back "online" or are now playing MW2 (again). This is because they had to quit the game entirely to exit the match and abort the stat upload, and are now starting their Xbox/MW2 back up for another match.

> Even if you’re not in a match with them, but you know they’re playing MW2 and you get frequent notifications that they’re online/playing MW2, it’s an indication they might be doing this.

So that’s how you spot one of these people. If you ARE one of these people, get a life. No one cares about your k/d. It’s only a game. When you partake in this juvenile stat whoring as the host, you fsck the game up for everyone else. Knock it off.

I'll admit that I've done it before but I now avoid it like the plague, there's just no point to it other than digital compensation. I agree, no one cares about your stats. The worst is when the host does it as it kills the game (no host migration).

Which makes me a sad panda.

I actually did have a connection issue when we played the other day SR but when it happened our team was up by something like 1200 points...my modem restarted on me like 6 times that day, sorta sucky for online gaming.

Oh, not directed at you Kabob. I mostly play with coworkers, and that's where I've noticed this.

Suuuuure it's not...I CAN FEEL THE HATE!!!

Kidding. Yeah, when I first discovered that I used it a few times but shortly thereafter I sorta got to the "umm...what's the point of this" area and gave it a rest.

Well, I take that back. I tried playing a game of Hardcore on a random team and 4 of the guys on my team decided it'd be more fun to kill each other than play the game...although I just turned the 360 off after that.

I'll admit to just leaving games when I'm in a random pub team where their goal is to be cannon fodder for the other team. Dash boarding and turning off the xbox is too much of a waste of time for me. I do have one friend that does that. We clown on him all time, and he's only like a 1. I don't know what the big deal is for him.

Any PS3'ers still play? I'm not on too much, but it'd be nice to play with people I know.

Cool, I'll add you both. My PSN ID is Kryhs

For the 360'ers, are your leaderboards as useless as ours on the PS3? The top like, 1000 people all have the exact same amount of kills and stupid other stats like 100,000 kills for their best kill streak.

Can someone explain to me how this dashboarding works ? just exit out to the dashboard without quitting the game? or do you have to unplug the network cable ?

I had a friend that went 25 - 0 before dying while using the riot shield. Has anyone ever gotten a nuke from using the riot shield?

He didn't have nuke turned on though. I though this was the funniest thing ever.

That's mighty impressive, I'm horrible with the riot shield. What was his strategy?

Saw you playing last night and would have joined but your game was always full.

Wait, you don't measure your success in life by your KDR? :awe:

im not even talking about MW2 specifically, im talking in general.

i get people quitting all the time on me in SF4, even in player matches, where no body can even see your stats for.

We were at Favela domination. You know the house by A. He was just blocking out the door for me, and I was covering A and B from there. People were trying to rush us from the door at that house, and he was just bashing them....lol.

I suck with the riot shield too, but it's the funniest thing to use in that game. It's a great distraction for your buddies, and you get a ton of assists from distractions.

Typically though, you semtex the riot shield and that person dies. Other team was not smart enough to do that. I've used the riot shield with blast shield, and you can survive a ton of noob tubes from that, but if they hit the shield with a semtex...you're dead.

Had some fun on Salvage the other day. The other team was camping in the back corner of the junk yard, where a sniper or nader has a good line of sight through those concrete tubes and can get you from a distance.

I got taken out a couple times over there and made it my mission to take them out. I loaded my old standby class, ACR w/M203-Scavenger-Danger Close. A couple well placed nades took out the couple guys who were camping it.

I moved in and setup behind the big piece of wreckage, taking out another four or five guys who came in to try and resume the camping. Got my sentry gun and set that up for a few more kills.

Not a huge streak by any means, but one of my longer ones and quite fun I love taking out relentless campers.

I was trying for a nuke today, ive never had one in fact my kill streaks have always been Predator Missile / Precision Air-strike / Harrier Strike
Its great for newbs but im a level 58 on my first prestige and it would be nice to get that nuke.

how did it go, Well lets just say the controller went airborne a few times. The worst was when i was playing demolition, we were in overtime, i had Harrier Strike, ac130 and nuke, i get a 7th killstreak , im picking a spot on the map to strike and someone newb tubes me blindly while i was in a building. Fuuuuuuuuuck. game over.

I got another kill streak going 7 kills about to launch my Harrier Strike, guess what score limit reached, game over.

i think im just going to buy battlefield and be done with this shit, I cant even pick a map that i think its the easiest without me entering a game that started already.

I never have enough time, and i cant play the map i want over and over again, so i guess no nuke for me.

So because you've never had a nuke you're going to get rid of the game? I'm lvl 58 or so on my 3rd prestige and I've never even tried to get a nuke, what's the point? So you can put it in your profile "NUKE COUNT: 19!" or something? Most of the people I know who are good enough to routinely get a nuke don't select it as a killstreak.

As for your killstreaks being "great for a noob" I've been running care package/sentry gun/harrier strike lately. There's no such thing as a "noobish setup," it's about setting up for what you need. I can get AC-130s with some consistency but for alot of game types just getting a UAV is alot more helpful (Hardline + UAV = neverending UAV on alot of maps). Methinks you're focusing way too much on trying to get monster killstreaks. Just focus on having fun, not on trying to hit some sort of elite club by getting a nuke!

Oh, and you can't choose the level on BC2 either and there are maybe 6-7 total maps in the game as opposed to the 15-20 on MW2, one or two of which are frusterating to play. It's a great game but it's totally different than MW2.

I noticed this as soon as I hit my 3rd prestige. I'm not running Hardline with UAV/Care Package/Pred and I'm finding that the team I'm on loses far less than in the past. Having a constant UAV in the air is probably the single most powerful assist you can provide to your team. Combine that with a lucky air drop, and you can cause total chaos without ever getting to a 4 killstreak.

I have never gone for a nuke. I dont think I could ever get it.

I usually run UAV/Predator/Harrier or occasionally Predator/Harrier/Pavelow. IMO camping has increased dramtically in TDM since the new maps so I run the 1st sequence almost all the time. UAVs seriously help your team and I like to win as much as having a good K/D.

Also Kabob, I see you are from Bham. I live in Huntsville.

I could probably get a nuke, I've hit 25 kills in a row a few times, I've just never really thought it worth the effort.

Woot for another Alabamian (although I'm not a from here).
