Learned a new kind of STAT PADDING today: the quit-to-dashboard-when-you're-not-doing-well technique. A cold shutdown also works.
MW2 updates your stats either a) when the round is over, or b) when you exit a match "normally". If you shut your console off or quit to the dashboard mid-game, your stats aren't uploaded. So people are basically picking a k/d ratio that they want to achieve, and whenever they're having a game that's a lower k/d than the "target", they just quit the match in said manner.
I found this out while playing several coworkers. They all have pretty nice k/d ratios, but I've noticed since MW2s release that they get "connection issues" when theyre doing poorly... and ONLY when theyre doing poorly. Finally I just flat-out asked them what was going on, and they spilled the beans. A few simple tests on my part confirmed it: if you quit in the described manner, your stats don't count for that round.
Here's how to spot these weenies:
> They pop in and out of matches a LOT. They rarely finish a match in which they're not doing well.
> That might sound normal (who wants to play while frustrated?), but their quitting is usually followed by an XBL notification that they're back "online" or are now playing MW2 (again). This is because they had to quit the game entirely to exit the match and abort the stat upload, and are now starting their Xbox/MW2 back up for another match.
> Even if youre not in a match with them, but you know theyre playing MW2 and you get frequent notifications that theyre online/playing MW2, its an indication they might be doing this.
So thats how you spot one of these people. If you ARE one of these people, get a life. No one cares about your k/d. Its only a game. When you partake in this juvenile stat whoring as the host, you fsck the game up for everyone else. Knock it off.
