I've experienced this in both MW3 and Black Ops, along with other FPS games online when I've had bad connection. It's just the player's connection to the host being bad.
Wow, condescending much?
This crap never happened in black ops. Feel free to disagree, I couldn't give a fuck.

it did happen in blops on the PS3 but the PS3 had many more lag issues then the xbox did
I'm not at all trying to be condescending. That's 100% normal lag. Happens all the time in blops, mw2, counterstrike...any game that uses client side hit detection is susceptible to it.
You don't have to believe me if you don't want to.
A lot of people tend to forget that Valve came up with a way to compensate for 56kbps modem users back in the early days of online FPS multiplayer. What it came down to is 1) the game always tuned everyone's experience to that of the highest ping, meaning when a 56k user hopped on a server, everyone lagged and 2) instead of using server hit detection, hit detection was moved client side - meaning, if a user saw you before you went behind a wall and killed you, then you'd still see yourself being behind the wall when you die. What actually hurts is they show you the kill cam, where as previously you'd just think that you were killed through the wall and you see it as you not being behind the wall.
Call it lag, or whatever, but it's been happening in multiplayer games for over 10 years. It got better over the years on PC because the server admins could restrict ping times and also make tweaks to the server code. We don't have that here.
That's why most of us were saying the lag issue is with the players themselves, which sucks but it's reality. It's your connection to the host vs your opponent's connection to the host. If you have a better connection, you will kill him first if you both shoot at the "same" time since your bullets will register with the host first. However, if you try to turn the corner, you may get clipped (which happened to me last night) because on his client side screen, there is a delay and you weren't around the corner yet.
I have actually enjoyed these maps a lot. I like that you can flank every where. It stops those campers from being so invincible.Could the topic please change from lag already? Its apart of the game and will not go away. Learn to deal with it or stop playing.
I am still loving the maps. There are two that I wont play just because they seem to be a campers paridise. But the whole talk of how they are all the same doesnt hold any water. Yes they might all be a grid like map but each map has its own feel to it.

MW3 made my XBOX run crazy weird last night. It was running real choppy and slow Rebooted my XBOX and it went away...
I don't know about you guys, but I thought the BLOPS maps were far from chaotic. I thought they were well done and very memorable.
Same thing happened to me. I left a laggy match and when I went back to the mp menu screen, everything hung. I wanted to upload a few videos to my vault. So, I had to reboot my xbox a few times before mw3 worked again. Weird.
Alright fellas, my lag issues have been resolved and were not related to the game in my situation. We just bought a new house and I had the cable guy come out because the new tv upstairs was not getting all the channels.
He looked at the setup where the wires meet and noticed that they were split wrong. That fixed the tv issue and I figured I'd ask "would that have affected the internet at all" and he said "yes". That was on Sunday. I figured I'd give MW3 another try on Monday night and everything was silky smooth for me. The odd thing is that the graphics were improved as well (although still crappy overall), but it was clear and I could see enemies at a distance.
In a couple hours, I brought my k/d up from .59 to .74.
So I'm back, shoot me an invite if you guys need another guy.
Kev - I had great speeds (25mbps down / 2mbps up) with ~30-35 ms ping and I was still having this issue. I would double check the wiring if you're in a new place or have a new provider. Other than that, I'm not sure buddy.
P.S. The maps still suck as well as the spawning but I can deal with that
