The crowd appears to be calling the penalties tonight. Something happens, refs are quiet, then crowd erupts, ref blows whistle.

The Franzen incident basically boiled down to "hey look, a SJ player fell down, must be a Detroit penalty, tweeeeet"

I have to admit, growing up in windsor area (across the river) I've cheered for detroit all my life. After spending the last few years watching Bettman absolutely destroy the game I have gotten to the point I just can't watch anymore. I still pile on in playoffs, but it's very obvious the fix is in. It's become completely acceptable to just tackle the superstars, you don't even have to pretend to be playing the puck anymore, and goals are way down since he took over. Before the "Corruptor" tm took over the league look how many 50 goal scorers there were, and now we MAY get 1 or 2.

It has been a strange mix of fun and frustrating to watch the wings since the Olympic break, I was content with the idea that I gave up on the game, and refused to watch as long as the special needs accountant with no idea what a puck looks like was still in charge. I am definately getting a reminder of why I stopped watching, but its so fun when the wings can pull one off and beat the refs.

I ask myself that every game I watch, Detroit has the best road following of any team, but it's gotten more than obvious the Wings have to beat the refs and the other team to win.

Exactly. And it's possible that the refs just had a bad game, it happens and the series isn't over. Good teams will bounce back, hell Montreal came back from a 3-1 deficit so you never know what will happen from one game to the next. The next game may go Detroit's way once the public scrutiny hits.

Because the Wings fans are there every year, no matter what. A place like San Jose can draw a lot of NEW fans in if they go all the way.

When the Sharks got that delay of game penalty with 10 min. to go the Wings just couldn't turn up the gas and get the job done.
The Wings always look better as a series goes on. They are good learners and they'll be a little more rested come Sunday.

Like game 5 against the Avs in particular. No doubt the reffing was against the Avs the whole series, but nothing as blatant as game 5. Not even close

ok, so thus far we have two groups of sore losers in this thread.

1) The "blame the refs / conspiracy theory" sore losers (this one has been a classic since the dawn of sports)

and

2) The "our high seeded team should be entitled to a first round victory, and if they lose, its because the low seeded team didn't deserve to be in the playoffs to begin with" sore losers (haven't really heard this one a lot until this year)

Why does everyone always make excuses for why their team lost? Every team gets bad calls. Every team is the beneficiary of bad calls. It all evens out. Detroit lost last night because they gave up 3 shitty goals in the first period.

And LOL @ people trying to point the blame away from their team choking after they lose to a low seed. The sense of entitlement is just great. The caps lost because they were 1/30 on their pp, and sucked on the pk. That's all there is to it.
