That 3rd period dive by Nabakov was ridiculous, hmm, lets go 10 feet out of the crease and dive in front of my own guys legs to draw a penalty.
That final shot was uber rookie by Howard, hello, do you SEE the guy on the other side? You can tell from a mile away what's gonna happen, get back in the pipes idiot.
Man if Howard is gonna be that noob, put friggin Ozzie back in.
Just what I saw from a non-hd tv which makes things so.. ugly for Hockey
1) Nabakov's "dive" lead to an interference call on Holmstrom, but for interfering with Boyle? That's impressive...
Boyle was pushed into Nabakov. If a goaltender interference penalty got called here you might have a point to make. But no - Holmstrom kept pushing Boyle (who didn't have the puck at any point) who was on top of Nabakov at this point. To push once might be trying to fight for space, to do it twice is just asking for a penalty.
2) In terms of the OT goal I think Howard played that decently. In a 2 on 1 I believe the responsibility of the goalie is on the person bringing in the puck, and the dman is supposed to block the passing lane neutralizing the other player.
The Dman (was it Rafalski?) basically pointed at Thornton, had his stick in the air, and had his legs spread apart while standing on the ice. This isn't really the way to stop one of the best setup men in the league. If ever a time there was to block a pass - this would have been it.
Howard covers Joe (which he did), He just passes to Marleau (which he did), and it's an easy goal (which it was).
Howard covers Marleau or tries to cover both - Joe has a bigger opening to shoot - and realistically probably would have scored. Had he known the dman would let the pass get through so unmolested - he'd probably have played it this way.
Then again - I dunno: perhaps seeing it again would change my mind but that's what I saw.
edit: also...
