The refs have been calling a good series. They've been letting the little things go and calling the bigger ones. Both teams have had bad calls go against them, and also benefitted from some non calls. However, the bulk of the calls that have been made have been very legit penalties.

After watching what the "new NHL" has become, I'll take this any day. I'm tired of seeing ticky tack shit get called. If you think Kane has been interfered with, you clearly haven't been watching some of Philly's speed guys get pinned on the boards for a good 5 seconds behind the play. Point is, the refs have let that go both ways. They've called most of the slashes, trips, and hooks. They have NOT called every high stick, especially when the player hits himself in the face (see game 1). They also haven't called every cross-check, especially not in the slot, which is how hockey should be played anyway. Want to park in front of the net? Fine, take your beating.

Shit, my team is down 2-1 and the last thing I can complain about is the officiating. This has been the best series the refs have called all playoffs - any series, not just a Flyers or Hawks series. It's been a bunch of 1 goal games. What the hell else can you ask for? This series and last year's finals have been the best two since the lockout.

i just remember staying with relatives in jersey shore (yes, it's a real town name... doubt anyone has heard of it lol) and being out in the middle of nowhere.

I passed Jersey Shore on the way to/from Penn State. I had no idea people actually LIVED there.

Edit:
I guess that sounds like sour grapes, but I grew up in NJ and went to school in PA, so I heard all kinds of crap about our sports teams and the state in general. Plus, we're rivals in football and hockey.

I respect the Flyers for what they've accomplished this year.

I grew up in NJ too, and am a Philly fan. FWIW, it's generally not the Philly people saying things about the state of NJ itself. It's usually the people from west of Harrisburg. Penn State folks mostly. Of course, I went to school in Virginia, where we have our own brand of douchebaggery that I also don't care for.

I love the Devils-Flyers rivalry, though. My favorite of all of them, probably because my cousin's always been a Devils fan. That and being able to get both teams on TV was pretty sweet, seeing the best goalie ever play in his prime 2-3x a week.

Anyhow, no need to justify it. If I were you, I'd hate it every time the Flyers won too. I always respected what the Devils won, but I'll be damned if I liked it. My damn team was always losing.

How do you pass anywhere on the NJ coast on the way to Penn State? I mean, were you coming from England?

Jersey Shore is a town in PA (which would almost make sense if it weren't in northern PA)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey_Shore,_Pennsylvania

Jersey Shore was originally named Waynesburg by the two brothers, Reuben and Jeremiah Manning, who laid out the town circa 1785.[3] Around the time that this was happening, a settlement arose on the eastern side of the West Branch Susquehanna River (Nippenose Township), opposite Waynesburg. A rivalry developed between the two settlements, and those on the eastern shore began referring to the settlement on the western shore as the "Jersey Shore," because the Manning family had relocated from New Jersey. The nickname became so fixed that in 1826 the original name of Waynesburg was officially abandoned and changed to Jersey Shore.[4]

I'm so angry, I can't even watch this anymore.
Arg. Sad that the phillies are going to take this series 4-2 now. I blame that 3rd period push in game 2. It has carried over.

Nah, don't feel like that.

The second period was much better. If the Hawks get the next one anything can happen.

I won't count this team out until they're down 3 or 4 goals in the last period of an elimination game.

Sucks, but the I actually feel much better than after that mess of a 1st period.

The Hawks are better, more skilled. They'll still win this.

I'm liking the skill of the Flyers right now. They're on par, if not better than the Hawks. One thing is for certain though, they are getting out coached.

Hawks had the best of play the last two periods (Last Flyers goal was a lucky fluke).

When the Hawks turned it on the Flyers were helpless.

It's my hope that this game is what it took to get the Hawks back on their game; if that's the case it'll be something like 6-2 Hawks on Sun.

As I posted earlier: The Hawks got caught up in the playoff winning streak and played way too much not to lose instead of using their skill edge to knock the Flyers back on their heels. When they finally did wake up it was no contest.

The SJ Sharks are a better team than the Flyers.

Awesome win. Those two goals from Chicago in the 3rd period shouldn't have happened, but hey, I'll take the win anyhow.

Keep telling yourself that, you're absolutely delusional. The SJ Sharks never won anything, never forced Chicago to split up their best line, and never had 5 different guys score a goal in one game vs Chicago. Philly is just dominating in the slot defensively and just like Jeremy Roenick said, Chicago needs to somehow keep trying to put guys in front of the net. Roenick was wondering if the Hawks are scared of Pronger? Got a huge laugh out of that! But he's right, Pronger/Carle are just completely nullifying Toews/Buff/Kane (1 pt) and forced Coach Q to move Kane to another line tonight to try and get some iota of a spark by adding more size to Buff's line. Chicago better come up with something new other than trying to hit Ville Leino; they are being outplayed on defense, hitting, passing, and scoring by Philly right now.

Hopefully Philly is smelling blood in the water and brings even more intensity on Sunday (they sat back with the 3 goal lead and just played defense in the last 2 periods tonight). If they play even better I don't see how Chicago will pull this out. Philly in 7 is my prediction with Pronger, Richards, or Giroux for Con Smythe and the Flyers being hailed as the greatest underdog team in NHL history after overcoming .05% odds vs Boston down 0-3 and 6.06% odds vs Chicago down 0-2.

Oh, something funny about CHI's coach switching up lines. Apparently Hawk fans hate it: http://paching.net/mike/sch/hawkslinegen.html lmao!

Yep, Hartnell was fcking stupid for rattling/banging his stick on the bench after the refs warned them not to do it to make it a 5 on 3 PPlay. However, Chicago still has yet to score in 5 on 4 PPlay which is absolutely amazing PKing by Philadelphia. When was the last time we have seen a team this dominant in PKing in the playoffs????
