Ottawa will always choke in the playoffs.

0-7 vs Buffalo in the playoffs with Ruff. Tomorrow it will be 0-8.

Iron Woode, deal with the fact that the cup won't be coming near Canada anytime soon. Chara is a good defensemen but he can't even begin to keep up with 98% of the sabres team.
Ottawa is going to be gone in 4 tomorrow. Sabres arn't even playing up to 100% and beating them. The only time Ottawa can score is when Buffalo makes a mistake or takes a bad penalty.
Sorry to say that once again Ottawa can't perform in the playoffs to save their life.

Well, the Sharks are 9-1 against the Eastern Conference teams this year. I'm hoping the finals will be either Sharks vs Devils or Sharks vs Sabers. We'll see.
Oh please, bring San Jose. They don't have anywhere near the speed or depth of lines to take on the Sabres.

I really hope you are joking. Sure, most of the year has been Thornton and Cheechoo on the scoreboards, but look at the first 2 rounds. Patrick Marleau, Mark Smith, Steve Bernier, etc. We have plenty of depth and I think we can easily take the Sabers. Whoever goes to the final in the west (either SJ or Anaheim) will take home the cup.

Joking? The sharks arn't a speed match or a line match for the sabres. If they want to the play the classic western game then they will be met by a fast, steel curtain eastern defense.
The Sabres have 4 lines of top notch, solid forwards.
Ottawa, the second best team in the league is getting shutout by Buffalo, so I really hope you don't think Anaheim or San Jose the mid-level entries will "easily" take Buffalo. If you do' you're in for a surprise.

You're talking the first two rounds in the western division, which is weak to say the least.
The west plays a totally offensively weighted game that just won't fly with the teams coming from the east. I've watched just about all the of the playoff games and watching the western games is like a clinic on how NOT to play defense. Hell, they barely even play defense.

The west won't be taking home the cup this year. If it does, it will be one of thoes miracle years.

Sadly you are correct about Ottawa, they've mastered the art of choking. Maybe they'll pull off a miracle and win the next 4, but I won't hold my breath.

Go Oilers go!

You're forgetting that the Sharks went 9-1 against the Eastern Conference this season, including a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes and a 5-0 shutout against the Sabres.

Regular season never translates into postseason. That is apparent by the teams who advance.

That 5-0 win was Thortons first game with the sharks, where he had two assists and broke their early losing streak. On top of that it was a mere 24 games into the season, hardly a measure of matchup.

Though I must say in the west the bottom 4 teams are playing and in the east the top 4 teams are playing. So I can go out on a limb and say that the western teams are having
"dream team" runs and the eastern teams are playing their typical games.

Sabres went 3-5 against Ottawa, winning once in OT, one in a shootout and once in a blow out. The other 5 times they got destroyed. Now they are completely owning ottawa and not even playing 100%.

Sabres were 6th in scoring, top ten in least goals allowed, 3rd on the PP and 2nd on the PK. They have 4 solid lines of scoring forwards and a fairly quick defense when healthy.
I would love to see the sharks mediocre goaltending go up against the sabres forwards.
Sharks are very weak against the PP, odd man rushes and shorthanded rushes.
Going by the stats, Buffalo is a much more well rounded team than san jose is. SJ is a 1-2 line team, buffalo is a 3-4 line team.

If it's sabres vs sharks it should be a good series. But by no means will the sharks easily take the sabres.

The remaining Eastern Conference teams are a combined 8-2-2 against the remaining West teams. And as for that 5-0 shutout, it was Thornton's first game with the Sharks and they were jacked up. Buffalo played poorly that game and never seemed to be in it. Now, I do think of the four teams that San Jose will present the biggest challenge, but to suggest that the Cup will easily go to the West, or that San Jose will easily take the Sabres is hilarious.

Yep, only 1 penalty called in each of the OT periods so far. SJ will go into the 3rd OT with 49 seconds to go on the PP. Hopefully Thornton, Marleau and Cheechoo can get it done early so we can all go to bed!

Yeah, I admit I was a little too jazzed up for tonight's game when I wrote "easily take the Sabres". I think Sharks vs Sabres will be the best combination for a great match up for the cup. That will be a grinder of a series, going to 7 games. I'm thinking a little too far ahead anyways. We gotta get past the Oilers and get past those pesky Ducks first.

Understandable. I'm equally (if not more) jazzed up after Buffalo's victory over Ottawa
