So we did get a bunch past Rollie in the 3rd, unfortunately the same can be said of us. Ugh, poor ducks, worked harder, but just couldn't catch a break until the last few minutes.

Now, assuming the Oilers sweep the Ducks...and the East final goes 6 or 7 games, I wonder if the layoff effect will get to the Oilers...

I was thinking the same thing. Look at what happened to the Ducks, after sweeping the Avs, they haven't been the same. Though they turned it on at the end of the 3rd. Still, maybe its best to push them to a 6th game, though I know oilers fans would have a fit if that happens.

Ducks outplayed the oilers and came on strong and played the vast majority of the 3rd period in the oilers zone. The game was close until that flury by the oilers, but the ducks responded by 3 unanswered goals.
Neither team dominated the game and the ducks arn't out of it yet.

The goals are once again the result of old school refereeing. Not to say it was totally awful, but as a ref you should let something go on one end when the team is down two players, not call another penalty and clearly give it to one team.
I don't like the ducks, but they showed that they can completely dominate in the oilers end for almost entire periods. The ducks really deserved to win that one and I hope they don't get a sweep. I need as much hockey as I can get!!! *foaming at the mouth*

I was kind of hoping the series would go the distance (so we could see more games).

At least my Vancouver Giants won against the Petes today So they are still alive in the Memorial Cup in Moncton

Cheers,

The referring in this game is a joke.

Sad to say but the penalty calling in this game is completely one-sided.
Brier gets raped at the end of the play in front of the ref and there is no call. Nope, can't have the home team go down 2 men....

Carolina has two goals on two powerplays that were the result of crap calling.
Buffalo came out playing fast and strong, but the penalty killing is wearing them down.
This game is over. Bring it back to HSBC.

I don't know. It seemed the refs started making "make up" ref calls in the third when Buffalo was down 4-1. On the positive side of things, we scored the last two goals of the game and we're coming home, and have home ice advantage for the rest of the series.

Edit: And it's very possible that both Tim Connolly and Teppo Numminen are back for game 3. I'm not that surprised we gave up 4 goals with only 4 NHL-quality D-men.
No amount of "make-up" calls are going to recover from 2 goals from bvllshit penalties.
If you've followed sabres hockey for any lenght of time you will know that there are a large group of old refs that hate the sabres. They have consistantly made sh!tty calls for 15-20 years and still rear their ugly heads to this day. No matter how much Bettman claims that the penalties will be fairly called and the classic "put the whistle in the pocket" way of handling things is no more, it's bs.

Sabres did generally get outplayed in game two, but not to the point where anyone should be worried. The loss of Teppo is rough on the defensive unit. You could clearly see that the defensive pairing with Janek was getting overwhelmed by larger, more experienced forwards on the 'canes. Fitzpatrick is definitely a NHL calibur D-man, but the sabres NEED teppo back to really seal up the defensive coverage and transition game. But even then, the forwards knew they were weaker on the D unit and should have played harder coming back on the backcheck and playing the slower transition game rather than hanging closer to the blue line waiting for that breakaway chance.

Sabres showed with thoes two goals that they are very much an offensive threat at any point in the game and are not going to back down easily. Throughout most of the season they were a team that came on strong at the end of the game. So it's no surprise for them to start a bit slower and then settle into a solid game with a lot of young, virile players that can outlast the older players in the game.

If the sabres get both teppo and connolly back in the game then they will win this series much easier.

Yes! Here's hoping they go to game 6/7. Both conferences...
As long as it's sabres in six, then sure, GO GAME SIX.
I don't need the stress of game seven.

They will just get old and rusty.
Bring the oilers, peca needs to get shoved around in his former stomping grounds.

1-1 after one. Buffalo is playing much better than before. Carolina is playing well, but their goal was flukey; Stillman was attempting a centering pass and it deflected in off a Sabre. McKee, I believe. Oh well, you just have to overcome those.
Let's Go Buffalo!

AWESOME 2nd period. Another iffy goal by Carolina, but other than that I have nothing to complain about. Buffalo scored 3 goals, outshot Carolina 18-5, 15-1 at one point, and are up 4-2. Just keep up the hard work and we'll be up 2 games to 1.

Well, the 3rd wasn't so great. Carolina scored to close within one, and ANOTHER Buffalo d-man went down. This time it was Tallinder, easily one of our most consistent players in the playoffs. This is getting sad. I hope at least one of those three d-men will be ready Friday.

However, Buffalo won, and that's great! 4-3 victory, after controlling the first two periods and escaping the third with 5 defensemen.

In the third Buffalo went back and played mostly defense. It's not as easy in the new rule league, but the team is talented enough to do it and Lindy Ruff is easily the best defensive coach in the league.

Tallinder is out for the season, he will be missed. Though Pominville is most likely going to play on defense, which could work out well. Tallinder was a good offensive D-man who played a great transition game and worked the point well. I think that Pominville can easily work his way into a defensive pairing rotation and do some major damage. He is just large enough to be a hard hitting D-man, but he is also very fast and can work the transition game better than most D-men. The Sabres play a very agressive defensive game anyway so I don't think having a decent sized and hard-working forward in the D-pairs will be a bad move at all.

Teppo will also start working very hard to come back and if (WHEN) the Sabres make it to the cup finals Teppo will definitely be back in the line-up and ready to go and he will most likely be back in this series. Hell there is even a Kalinin could possibly come back (i wish). Even then the Sabres have a bunch of young, fast, hard playing rookies that they can dip into. These guys from rochester have been called up and everytime have showed up to play as well as any veteran on the ice.

The Sabres should take this one. They proved in this last game that they can play harder, faster and with more intensity than Carolina. Buffalo was absolutely ALL OVER carolina for the majority of that game. Even in game two Carolina didn't play up to that level. Staal is being shutdown by the sabres and brid'amour isn't playing anywhere near hard enough to out play the Sabres. The Sabres will be taking this one in game 5.

I think the finals will be the Sabres and the Oilers. Both teams are great, but edmonton is more of a dreamteam than Buffalo is. The cup finals will go to seven games and the goalies will be the deciding factor along with the dominant speed (which goes to the Sabres). The Sabres have the advantage of Lindy Ruff and his years of coaching Roloson, so he should know how to play against Rollie. Rollie is definitely hot in the playoffs, but it was obvious with the last game that he is not a deciding factor in every game when the heat gets turned up.

All I want to see is one stanley cup come to Buffalo. Then all of my thousands and thousands of dollars spent on season tickets will be justified.

3-0 Ducks after the third. The ducks aren?t going down that easy. Still 40 mins to play, but its obvious who the more desperate team is.

Wow...3-0 Ducks after the 1st! The Oilers were outshot 25-3...and they are getting into some serious penalty trouble.

The Ducks *should* win this...but unless they win the next, then we might have a series...

They're getting some help from the ref too, uncalled penalties on the Oilers...
