i doubt it will do any good but i am emailing them about the damn stealing part of the game. stealing is pretty much worthless because you can only steal what you need. if you steal anything else its just garbage in your inventory because no vendors will buy it. apparently certain thieves guild members will buy it but i have yet to see one.

i guess it helps so you don't makea lot of money right away, but isn't that what a thief and stealing items is all about? risk vs. reward.

in a game where they made the world as pretty realistic (for a fantasy game) as they could, i still can't believe this thing goes through.

hahah

dude why don't you actually PLAY a bit before you write them about this. You'll save much embarassment.

hahah

dude why don't you actually READ a bit more of the comments made about this game. You'll easily see that it is one of the biggest complaints. You'll save much embarrassment.

I'm not even a thief, I'm in the fighter's guild, and I've met two fences so far. They're just shady people who have a buy\sell icon, but when you click it they get nervous and stumble and say, "I don't know what you're talking about, I don't buy or sell anything!"

I found these guys without even looking for them.

Interesting how we're talking about buying the waterfront house and the persuasion game on different tacks here - you'll probably have to play the game with the commerce shop lady before she'll even sell you the house.

Yep... I had too anyway... she will only talk to a friend...

I didn't buy the house however... $2000.00 is quite a bit.

Anyone found a decent source of lockpicks yet?

I've seen plenty around, but for like 6g each... yikes!

Figured out the gold trick, 100k in gold, woohoo

Any tips on strategy in the Arena match to be crowned champion? The match where you have to face the yellow team champion, an archer, and a mage.

I haven't found any containers that has a nice stack of lockpicks and actually respawns. I always just buy them from my fence in Brume who sells it to me for 5g each. If I'm running low, I usually buy like 40 and I can loot at least two dozen stores with that so I consider the 200g an 'investment' with a larger return.

Ok, after playing almost non-stop since the game came out I have to say I really love it and am having a blast. There are too many good things to say about it so instead let me list a few disappointments...

1. The stores don't actually have their goods! In Morrowind, whatever a store sold was actually inside the store. In Oblivion every store has the items they sold in a chest or container which is outside the bounds of the actually store, so basically they are completely inaccessible. So a thief is not able to steal anything a store is selling. One easy fix but a bit tedious is to just go into the editor and move all the chests back int the store. So that's not so bad.

2. The game relies heavily on adjusting itself to your level. So a store will eventually get better items as you get higher level but also the NPCs you fight and monsters you fight will actually be higher level as well. So in some respects I actually find myself avoiding levelling up because everything just gets harder, and if you dont just concentrate on like one combat skill or one magic skill when you do levle up then everything is gonna whoop your ass. Forget about levelling off of skills like speechcraft- you'll end up frustrated as the fights become way too hard. One exploit they introduced by this is now you can put all you essentially combat skills and/or magic skills as minor skills, and leave the skills you are LEAST likely to ever raise as your major skills. So now you can improve your character and making him more powerful WITHOUT levelling up and the monsters/NPCs wont level up either. <Nelson> Ha ha! </Nelson>
that part is very very good to know

What I don't get is why is Oblivion not really protected that much with security. (like Starforce or Safedisc)

All it uses is file checks and cd checks. Almost no security AT ALL. I hate putting in a cd so I got a no-cd thingy (don't ban me).

It just suprises me a bit. Would it have hurt them to put some safedisc in there? (since thats pretty much the only protection that people don't hate like starforce)

Hopefully it's a decent enough card to play it.
Oblivion here I come.

My wife is playing on a 6800nu, not unlocked and not overclocked. I only set it at 800x600 for her (because I didn't know how it would play) but she hasn't complained yet. So I'd imagine you'll be able to enjoy it at least.

Why bother? It'd just be cracked and released on the warez channels regardless. Might as well not punish their paying customers. Frankly I thought this was a wonderful move by bethseda.

But please BUY THE GAME folks if you like it. I'd like to see this trend continue in this direction!

So dumb to cheat, for me it takes all of the fun and challenge out of the game.

I've closed the first Oblivion gate, and taken brother martin to the cloud temple. But that's it as far as the main story line goes. I have been completing random quests for guilds and am now a member of the Dark Brotherhood, fighters guild, thieves guild, and am working on joining the mages guild. But I'm only a lowly level 2, but steadily moving up. i've gotten apprentive on several skills now so hopefully I will be levelling up soon.

Can someone explain to me the trick to lockpicking? Why do I have such a hard time doing it? I break lockpicks way too fast. I am trying to search that vampire dude's house in imperial city but I have no lockpicks to get in, and I can't find any.

I can't tell you of any good resources to find some picks, besides buying them... and as mentioned, the guy in Bruma sells them for 5g each... which I thought was expensive, but like they say go rob a few houses and you can make up the money pretty quickly...

doesn't this game barely fit on a DVD-5? Maybe there isn't enough room for the safedisc.

I just buy my lockpicks from Ongar the World Weary. I wasn't to concerned about the cost, since its not real gold. Plus, break into a few houses and you can steal enough loot to return on your investment.

I'm glad they didn't put a lot of copyprotection on. It's not that I need to copy it, but being able to burn a backup if I wanted to is nice. I'd feel a lot worse about pirating something that's not protected (I guess it implies some trust that you're not a criminal) than something that is protected (I have no qualms about "free" versions of software from unreasonable publishers who don't let you run Daemon Tools, etc - they're making the legit version worth less than a cracked version, and I won't financially support someone who does that).
