I don't think that mod is required... by the time i hit 20, i had so much money i didn't know what to do with it. I would definitely recommend the saddlebag mod though (i put a link in my earlier post)... and perhaps brighter torches. I also used the lighter elven and mithril armor mod... it doesn't make sense that elven and mithril would be as heavier or heavier than dwarven.

I wanted to get the Imperial Dragon armor so i finished the MQ... but was VERY VERY disappointed in that armor (both in how it looked and the specs)... and my plan was to just finish the quest as the hero. But it kinda sucked without the MQ. I really hated the fact that Bethesda didn't add in responses for when you completed the quest. Here you are, walking past some NPC, and they're saying 'oh, your the great hero'... and you go up to talk to them, and their reaction is the same 'what do you want?' or 'i have nothing to say to you.'

Finally, i got so tired of MC droning on and on and on [and on], i just attacked him on his throne just to cut him short - made easy and short work of His Family

Yeah, i found the game pretty easy too.
i "trusted" the immortal and the Wrist Band was no prob.

so . . . the armour isn't worth it?
[being a "celebrity" is overrated, anyway]
:brokenheart:

no prob . . . i can get it after it is no longer useful and the game is well and truly *finished*.

thanks for the tip . . . now that i know what the ending is like, i will "go back" to the last possible save before the Final Battle [cliff-hanger] and proceed thru the game at a leasurely pace . . . i'd like to see *everything* - that game is THAT good

and i have dozens of torches . . . never used them after i got Night-Eye
[the ONLY place i had difficulty seeing was the Tears of the Knight in a Cold Place]

You mean the spell nighteye? Or did you get an equipment with it? Constantly needing to cast spells was a big pain in this game imo.

i found some helmet with permanent night eye, so something like that does exist.

Ah, okay. I'll check out the saddlebag, brighter torches, and elven/mithril armor mods. Also think that 'horse armor' mod sounds like a good idea. I just want to keep the game balanced/fair while having a good time as well. Thanks!

i made my own Ring of Night-Eye

and i am NOT playing as Hero . . . conversations are annoying.

i will leave Martin at an appropriate place before the Final Battle, and continue on with the rest of my SideQuests . . . i figure i know how to level up quickly [now - by working on Major Skills i never tried] and should be able to grab to cool gear and spells in clearing the next 40 gates and the rest of the SideQuests.

but now that i know how it Ended, i can get some sleep.

great game and easily my favourite of this Millenium.

I stole a ring of Night-Eye, but it's not hard to make one of your own. I equip it whenever I go into a cave, but I'm starting to think that I'd rather keep my other rings that provide defense and just cast a night-eye spell every few minutes.

Speaking of Night-eye, does anyone else find Night-Eye and Light spells kind of annoying. I mean they beat a torch somewhat, but they distort everything. I don't mind it too much with Night-eye since it's suppose to be some night vision effect, but Light is just weird. May just be the HDR, but I can't stand using either for long.

On going to Kvatch at level 30: omfg. I thought people were saying the gate infront of Kvatch was the hard part. I breezed through it and made a hueg amount of money. Apparently you all mean the city itself. The city is freaking crazy and wow did I reload a million times. My "help" got owned fast and the only real "help" was the guy who couldn't die acting as cannon fodder. Got lucky on the main entrance where the NPCs(2/3) actually lived and killed stuff. Onto the castle gate/courtyard battle. All NPCs died within 20 seconds. Ended up taking on 2 daedroth, 1 spider (Hate these), 3 atronarchs, 3 Xivali(?) and their minions solo with the unconscious guy providing much needed distraction. Insane. I didn't adjust the difficulty slider from default.

I rerolled a char using the Atronach birthsign... that looks interesting. I figure with 50% spell absorption, and then pick up another 50% through equipment and item enchantments, i could hit 100% spell absorption relatively quick. And up until then, i can live off alchemy potions. I wonder if there's a sigil stone for magicka absorption...

For Night-Eye, the Dark Brotherhood merchant has a Night-Eye spell for sale called "Void Gazer" that only costs 38 per cast and lasts for 150 seconds. Long enough to not be a pain in the butt, cheap enough for a non-magic based character.

I think you might find yourself spread thin with all of that - you'll have 5 attributes you need to pump (strength, endurance, agility, intelligence, willpower) while only being able to pump 3 of them per level-up. If you go just with sword, bow and sneaking, you can concentrate just on strength, endurance, agility. Sword, spells and sneaking will give you 4 to work on (strength, endurance, intelligence, willpower) but you can fast-track intelligence by using alchemy - keep it as a minor skill, but hoard all ingredients you find, and mix a lot of junk potions to pump it during each level cycle so you always get a 5 for intelligence.

Hate to say I told ya so..................I told ya so

btw, MESSAGE TO ALL (maybe a reminder, I dunno, didnt read whole thread), do not use the "showracemenu" command in the console, it is the command you use to change the race and facial features of your character in-game. Technically the last time you can change your character's features is the end of the sewers at the very beginning....I learned the hard way that after bringing up the menu in-game, it reset my minor skills back all the way to 7 when they were as high as 60 or so for block, restoration, and acrobatics...ugh, luckily I had one save where I was at level 13 (was at level 19) without those face changes and the minor skills a little less than 40, but now my character isnt perfect looking anymore and I have to redo some quests and gain all those numbers back, but still fun anyways. Word of advice, backup yo sh1t when doing console commands!!!!!

For anyone who wants to completely own in Oblivion:

Make an offensive touch spell with at least 10 secs Invisibility to self, preferably with 100% weakness to fire/frost/shock on target. Instantly breaks the entire game as you kill monsters at your leisure.

Thanks for the reply and advice. My original plan was to be a mage but after reading the guide I wanted to be able to take advantage of some of the weapons and armor so I wanted a blend but more of a mage than fighter. I want to concentrate on using bow and magic to deal damage and only use the sword (blade) as a last resort. I was going to try and level up slowly and build my skills as balanced as possible as I go. Do you think that would work? I saved my game just before exiting the sewers so I can go back and play as a different role.

i doesn't matter what you do - unless you like it really hard [then level up quickly by taking advantage of your multipliers and using your major skills]; you will face Enemies that are more difficult as they Level Up with you.

because i am [was] a RPG-Fantasy n00b - i chose Major Skills i found i didn't like [i have yet to make or use a single potion or use hand-to-hand combat or even Illusion or Alteration Skills] and concentrated on my Minor skills [i love Destruction and Restoration as well as Light Armour, Armour and Blade Skills and even some Marksman and Sneak].

What i "ended" up with is an "Adventurer" that levels up VERY slowly [i just hit Level 13 after 130 hours] but is Super-strong and OverPowers most of his enemies very easily. The trade-off is that i am just now getting to the better [Glass] weapons just now . . .

imo, that is no problem as i left the Main Quest [just before the Final Battle] to do *Everything* . . . i figure, with 100 hours to go and 40 or so more Oblivion Gates to Shut [i closed 20, so far], there is plenty of time to Level Up and get the awesome "goodies".

it really doesn't matter what you do . . . you will learn as you do . . .

and best of all, there is a "difficulty slider".
[i havent used it yet, but it is there]

and FINALLY, i can get back to playing for an hour or two a day [instead of 10] :Q
:Q

LOL are you serious? Does that actually work?

But i did find the game had some serious balancing issues. There are a couple of items that if you get, or if you can get an enchantment high enough, the game becomes way too easy. I'm not sure of the Hatred's Heart and Hatred's Soul are supposed to paralyze people, because the effect is a minus 25 in speed or something... but the mobs essentially doesn't move (they don't fall down as a normal paralyze spell does... they just don't move, even when you attack them) with every hit.

Or if you can get Resist Magic or Magic Absorption to 100%.

i have a question..

i was on the Glarthir quest and a Wood Elf approached me to meet him at midnight behind the Shrine to somebody or the other.

I got there and the only person who showed up was a guard telling me I'd better inform him if I hear anything about Glarthir.

did i miss something?

I wonder if there's a sigil stone for magicka absorption...

Transcendant Sigil is 15 points spell absorb(may take a lot of reloads to get it though).

if you could get a magical absorbtion spell...it will be included also into your enchantments

You can and it's not. They removed several spells from enchanting in this game(obviously they 'broke' Morrowind due to some of the possible enchantments).

I made a set of armor that gives me 100% chameleon and it completely breaks that game. I can stand in front of Imperial Guards and attack them and they just run. I'm probably just going to sell off this set because it really makes things boring. It's like turning on a notarget cheat.

FINALLY started the main quest a few nights ago at level 29... heh. Pretty tough but doable, though sometimes the game throws a lot of nasty Daedra at you all at once. I did the "Battle for Kvatch" after closing the first gate, one room had something like 2 Spider Daedra, 2 Xiviali, a Storm Atronach and a Daedroth inside the Kvatch guards who were my so called "help" were instantly toast. I had to round up all the nasties, then retreat across the moat back into town, and find a good perch to thin them out with arrows... my char is pretty strong, but 6 on 1 with those kind of monsters is suicide.

I've only done 2 Oblivion gates, but I've collected 89 Daedra Hearts :Q and leveled up 3 times since heading to Kvatch. It's pretty intense at this level, but I like it. More good times

It was a really tough decision, but I decided to retire my lvl 26 thief after finishing the Thieves' Guild questline. Walking along the road and having a Highwayman wearing Orcish armor ask me for 100 gold seemed way out of place.

So I rerolled and started all over again, but this time, I am using Oscuro's Overhaul mod. I can't even begin to tell you how different the game feels now. I am really really enjoying it a whole lot more. No longer can you waltz into a vampire lair at lvl 5 and clean the place up. I tried that. Ended up soiling my leather greaves, turning and running for my life, screaming like a little girl. And now I have to buy new armor since those greaves now have a -15 personality. ;-)

Oscuro also combined a couple of other mods into the package-- a natural wildlife mod and a combat behavior mod. This has already led to some very interesting encounters. I was attacked by a bandit on the way to Chorrol (who wasn't my *exact* level), and we traded some melee blows. He got low on health and then took off running. I take out my bow and start firing, but miss. The chase is on as he runs into the woods-- and not just running in a straight line screaming like a victim in a Firday 13th movie... he's zigging and zagging and I'm missing shot after shot. One single arrow would finish him off... and then the idiot runs right into a bear, who proceeds to maul him with one swipe. The bear just stands over the bandit's dead body, looking at me, but evidently, I'm not providing much of a threat at the moment (several feet away), so he just sits there as I slowly back away. Good times.

If you don't enjoy the level-scaling of vanilla Oblivion, and you don't mind starting a brand new game (not a save before you leave the sewers, but a NEW game), definitely give Oscuro's Overhaul a try.

Hrrmmm, thats interesting. Try leveling up and see if that changes their behavior. I only eqip chameleon enchanted stuff when Im in dungeons, the performance hit of using chameleon in the outside world is unnacceptable.

Has anybody tried Oblivion on a PC with a 360 controller? I tried setting up my PS2 controller (with the Boom PS2/N64 converter), but i can't get it to work properly (hell, i can't get it to work with Dreamfall either... so i'm thinking it's the converter that's not working properly).
