Sounds like the horse might have been a glitch for you- I've seen that section played through a few times now and it appears you did everything right. PITA that you have to deal with the horse thief issue all the time though. When you end up upgrading that will improve though.
What race are you btw? Certain towns in Oblivion are quite racist, the neighboring province only banned slavery fairly recently. That may have been why you were not welcome(all pure Elf races, Khajiit, Argonian and Orc have major issues while the Imperials and Nords run into it at a lesser degree- mainly from each other).
The locks I haven't figured out yet- I just do the auto attempt and buy as many lockpicks as I can(at least until I can pick up a level 100 unlock spell).

game is alot better than morrowind...anyone who thinks otherwise...can just go play morrowind.
this game is bigger...broader...slightly more confusing as to what to do. i can follow the story but...i have been playing 6 hours and have no idea where the fighters guild is...or thief's guild. atleast morrowind was dense enough to easily locate places like that.

Any hints on this?

Those that got wasted by rats or cliff racers dozens of times in Morrowind will likely know exactly what I'm talking about. Oblivion is clearly based on physical interaction- no more battles where you stand swinging wildly for five minutes to kill something with four hit points.

It would be nice if they added some kind of Diablo II-esque multiplayer maybe like 1-4 people can play together or something..

With the system in your sig, you'll pretty much get the graphics you see with the official screenshots.

Maybe they could of added some scripted events... ala Baldur's Gate 2 for a more typical PC RPGISH type of feeling such as the mini quests in Baldur's gate 2... windspear hills.. etc, something that can related to the main quest.
Such as when you needed to collect the fee for Gaelaen Bayle in BG2, so you had to go to the copper coronet to be hired as a mercenary... which lead into a more complex and intriguing storyline as you went in along...

My 9800XT actually handles it better than I thought it would.
As long as I turn all shadows off, and all grass off, and the view distances to a little below the highest, with no bloom and no AA, I can play it at 1280x1024@ ~30fps.
Can't wait till my 7900GT's come back from evga (UPS has them as I write this).

With the grass off, do you see wolves before they get really close? I tend to not find them until they're within a few feet of me.
