If you read the manual (which comes in the box), you'll learn about "fast travel" which eliminates most long walks. Plus, a horse shortens the remaining cases where you have to walk any significant distance.

Im playing a pure fighter (warrior class, warrior birth sign) and its fun. I always play my first character as pure melee (with a touch of magic) just to get the hang of the game, game play and mechanics then move onto a 'harder' class. No fear, I just run up to mobs and go toe to toe until one of us dies (always the bad guy), I would like to play as a ranger (a bow user) my next play through. I never play rangers and I think it would be fun to run around shooting arrows.

Unarmed combat is overpowered. After I disarm opponents in the arena, they're able to knock me to the ground with a few punches and do more damage than they did with their weapons. Fists through platemail. It also appears that they can block swords and axes with their hands. Very realistic.

Is it about as realistic as being able to throw fireballs or conjure up skellies?

I'm enjoying my ranger. There's this little cave near Imperial City that has a bunch of bandits in it, spread around. I was able to pick a few off one-by-one from afar with my bow. Then, I got detected trying to sneak into another room and had like 4 bandits chasing me. I ran all the way back to the beginning of the cave, tripped a trap, turned, and watch as the huge log came swinging down and nailed all 4 of them. 2 of them died immediately, and the other 2 ate it when the log swung back. It was sweet.

On the performance side, my SLI 6800GTs are getting smacked around something aweful. I don't think SLI is offering any performance gain at all. Just put in my order for the XTX at monarch.

That's kind of an apples to oranges comparison. Even fantasy games need to have somewhat realistic physics and balance. Punching through platemail and blocking swords with one's bare hands kills the immersion a lot more than fireballs and skeletons, because I expect those.

Does Bethesda actually say that it supports SLI? An X1900XT would be the best choice. This game is very shader heavy.

Too bad G80 is still a few months away. I'm guessing at least 96 shader units on that puppy.

2)how can i make it lighter INSIDE? I cant see that well when im inside at all...and brightness isnt what im looking for...its just not lighted lol.
3)Whats a good way to increase FPS outside? I have max settings with HDR at 1024x768, but i get low fps outside and especially when there are enemies.
4)are there any cheats to make my guy go faster? i could only get thru morrowing when i used the go faster cheat, its too slow without it (for me).

thanks...id appreciate tweaks/cheats/tips to make those better.

Odd, I have the opposite problem - I feel its too *bright* outside at night. Everything seems to be draped in this heavy white light, yet there is no moon in the sky. Indoors darkness is perfect, but I wish it was a bit darker outside at night to make it a bit more frightening to travel in the wilderness.

I guess you haven't been exposed to many RPGs with monks/martial artists.

edit: BTW, does anyone know where I can either buy a lot of restore luck potions or ingredients to make them? I did a quest for some people that had a consequence of SEVERE damage to luck (50 baseline, down to 6). No warning that that would happen .

If I ever have to pick up another Ninroot, I'll go crazy!

Visit a church and pray, that should fix your Luck problem, or any other stat issues.

What's the best way to get into the thieves guild?

Steal something and go to jail for it, then go to sleep. When you wake up, you'll have a letter dropped off to you from Grey Fox, leader of the Thieves Guild

BTW, does anyone know how to fix enchanted items? My armor from the Dark Brotherhood needs to be repaired but my character can't do it.

You can also talk to beggers in the main city, they can help you towards the Thieves Guild.

Enchanted items can be fixed by visiting the Mage Guild. You'll have to find out who can fix them, look for the icon on the bottom (star) I think, like buying icon.

Hah, I am playing it on an old P4 2.6GHz, 1GB ram, and Radeon 9600 pro (show some sympathy please!) Of course, my video settings are set extremely low (and I still get fps drops outside of cities and when I am fighting multiple opponents.)

This game might force me to upgrade.

Anywho, the fighter's guild, I think there's one in every city. The first one I went into was in Bruma next to the Mage guild's building.

Been playing for about 20 hours now and am a level 4. A few hours ago, I finally decided to give in and store up all my loot in the pirate ship where I had to kill the captain at the imperial water district or whatever. I got so much crap stored in that one dresser... I just hope NPC's don't know how to steal because if they stole my loot in that one dresser, I'm gonna go into rampage mode

I also recommend the UI mod that decreases the size of the icons in the inventory so you can see more items in the UI.

How did you manage that with a 6800GT???

im confused.. some are saying 6800GT is smooth enough.. while some are saying 6800 SLI is getting creamed?!

i know it depends on the settings but I'll have to wait and see..

If you put something in a container that doesn't belong to you, things will start to dissappear as NPCs DO STEAL!

NPCs shouldn't steal directly from the player...but thats only because the developers turned that feature off. However it does say in the manual stuff often disappears if you put it inside containers you don't own.

Sounds like fun, will definetely be a ranger when I make my next character!

It's because SLI isn't working properly... the only person i've read with it working properly is Shooks in this thread, everybody else can't seem to get it running.

I'm rerolling my char now... all my stats are fvcked up because of the way the skill system works in this game. So now i'm rerolling chars and choosing Major abilities of abilities i don't use often. I don't know why the system works like this... they must have beta'd it, and they didn't see this would be a problem?

I guess I don't see what you mean. I don't really have a problem with the skill system. I'm happy they consolidated it down from morrowind.

I"m still trying to figure the game out. I got it today for the 360 and it's my first RPG. So far it's been pretty fun. I created a wood elf and I am a knight with a thief birth i believe. I think all that is right, I'm still kind of confused.

I have closed the first oblivion gate and taken brother martin to the cloud temple. I also joined the blades, whatever that means.

Still only a level 1, but after reading some of the manual I understand that a little better. I may have to play with this character for a while and then go back and restart once I know what is going on. I will say that the game is really fun though.

anyone have any good sites for advice or info on the game?

I need lockpicks and I have no way of getting out the sewers of the imperial city. Should I go to a previous save point or is there a way for me to get out of the sewer and get some lockpicks?

I'm playing a Ranger born under the Steed. I'm fast, I sneak, and take long range zoomed shots. It's pretty sweet. It's helpful that a lot of your shots stun enemies, that way they can't run up an whallop you.
